Orangeville competes in Baraboo Tournament CORRESPONDENT
This past Saturday the Orangeville Broncos softball team competed in an eight-team tournament as they traveled to Baraboo, Wisconsin to try and come out on top. The Broncos got off to a good start as they began their day with a matchup against Lacrosse Logan. Orangeville jumped on top quick with a four spot in the top of the first inning and as they put their foot on the gas pedal they did not look back. They outdid their first inning output with a seven run second inning as they quickly put things out of reach, up 11-0 after two. The Broncos would coast the rest of the way and take advantage of the run rules with a 13-2 victory after five innings. Tori Plowman and Alyssa Ostendorf led the way offensively as Plowman went two for two and Ostendorf went two for three at the plate. Orangeville found themselves with a much tougher matchup in game two. For the second round they faced off with Whitnall High School, who is the defending division two state champion squad from Wisconsin. Whitnall happens to be the third ranked team in division two from Wisconsin this year, as well. The Broncos trailed 1-0 after the first but they were able to grab the lead with two runs in the fourth and another three runs in the top of the fifth. Just when the Broncos were up 5-1 and felt they had a chance to pull off the upset, Whitnall responded with a four-run bottom half, thanks in large to a two-run homerun. Whitnall would expand their lead in the sixth and the Broncos were unable to respond as Orangeville fell by a score of 7-5. Plowman was on the mound for the Broncos as she pitched six innings while striking out three and allowing six earned runs. The Broncos had done well enough to put them in place to compete for third place as they faced off
with Baraboo in their final game of the day. Baraboo would have the opportunity to play on their home turf, but they were forced to give the Broncos the home field advantage, and they proved to be no competition for Orangeville. The Broncos quickly jumped on the scoreboard with two runs in the first inning and a pair of three run innings in the third and fourth as they found themselves leading 9-0 early on. Baraboo was only able to put up one run, which came in the sixth inning, as the Broncos eventually took third place with a 9-1 victory. Katie Boomgarden was on the mound for the Broncos and she pitched a tremendous game, going all seven innings while allowing just three hits and getting four strikeouts as she got the win. Orangeville was led by Tessa Janecke, Payton Meier, and Emily George at the plate. Janecke went two for three with a solo homerun, Meier went a perfect three for three with a three-run blast, and George went two for three with a double. Following the tournament, the Broncos now sit at 23-3 overall on the season.

Lady Panthers inch out East Dubuque By Trenten Scheidegger CORRESPONDENT
On Monday, May 6, the LeWin Lady Panthers traveled to East Dubuque High School to begin their week with a tough matchup. This one was a nail biter from start to finish. The Panthers were able to take a quick lead in the first inning when Ashlyn Almasy hit a home run to center field to get it all started. Almasy’s homer would prove to be essential to the Panther’s success when all things were said and done. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Panthers until the top of the fifth, when the Panthers

were able to extend their lead to 2-0. Jenna Bidlingmaier was able to single to center field, bringing in Jaiden Rakowska to score, which would eventually prove to be the game winning play. The score would stay at 2-0 until the bottom half of the seventh when East Dubuque would get one last shot to make a move. They were able to put some pressure on the Panthers by getting some base run-
ners and eventually hitting a double to cut the lead in half at 2-1. That’s where East Dubuque’s luck would run out, however, as the Panthers were able to hold on and head home with the 2-1 victory. Offensively, the Panthers were led by Almasy’s home run and Bidlingmaier’s single, but Ella Brunner also had a good day at the plate going two for four. LeWin had Zoe Johnson on the
mound, and she was nothing short of tremendous. Johnson pitched all seven innings and allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out nine. Johnson pitched well enough to hold off East Dubuque just enough, as the one run they scored was unearned and she was able to close things out for the complete game and the victory. The Lady Panthers are now 12-9 on their season.
