for an ultrasound feeling nervous. Every time, Stacy was there with comforting words to put them at ease before the ultrasound even started. If the answers they found were not ideal, she offered a hand to hold and prayed with the patient. If there’s good news to celebrate, Stacy is the first to rejoice with the patient. No matter the circumstance, Stacy strives to be uplifting for every patient.” Plager echoed those sentiments. “Stacy goes above and beyond

Callie Plager, a registered nurse at Monroe Clinic’s Highland Women’s Care in Freeport, received the DAISY Award based on a nomination from a recent patient. Plager has been a nurse with Monroe Clinic for four years. “Callie has been a constant through all my pregnancies,” the nomination says. “I recently experienced a scary pregnancy complication and Callie was there for me even though she was off duty on a weekend. She provided immediate reassurance and counsel, which was the push I needed to face the ER during COVID-19 by myself. “That Monday, she met my husband and I first thing at Highland Women’s Care for an appointment to get some much-needed answers. We are so incredibly grateful for Callie, and she is a major reason that we continue to grow our family with the support of Highland Women’s Care.” A few of Plager’s co-workers attended her DAISY Award ceremony May 12, while her family attended via video chat. The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that celebrates the clinic skill and compassionate care nurses deliver every day. Monroe Clinic employs more than 300 nurses serving patients throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Meanwhile, Highland Women’s Care sonographer Stacy Cassell received Monroe Clinic’s BEE Award. Cassell has been a member of the Monroe Clinic team for 17 years. Staff members Paige Rainwater and Plager nominated Cassell. “Sonographers are with our patients when they are finding out life-changing news, whether good or bad, so it takes a very special person,” Rainwater’s nomination letter states. “I remember different occasions when patients came in
in everything that she does,” Plager wrote. “She creates lasting relationships with her patients. Stacy is not only there for them medically, but also as a support person. We hear frequently from patients how loved
she is.” The BEE Award was created to recognize any non-nursing staff member who demonstrates quality care, extraordinary compassion, focus on the patient and the patient’s needs
and effective collaboration with other members on the patient-care team. Nomination forms are available at Monroe Clinic locations and online at monroeclinic.org/daisy or monroeclinic.org/beeaward.
