Orangeville’s softball head coach Lon Scheuerell has had quite a decorated career as the shot caller for the Lady Broncos. His track record recently became even more impressive as he picked up his four hundredth career victory in his eighteenth season with the squad, bringing his career record to 400-172. Throughout his eighteen years Scheuerell has seven regional titles, two sectional titles, and an astounding fifteen straight twenty-win seasons. He was also recently inducted into the Illinois Coaches Association Hall of Fame this only further proves he belongs. Orangeville high school and their athletic director, William Guy, would like to congratulate and offer thanks to coach Scheuerell saying “Coach Scheuerell, thank you for all the sacrifices you have made as a coach and as a teacher for our community, our school district, and most of all our students.” The four hundredth victory came after the Broncos pulled off an incredible comeback in the late innings of a battle with Dakota. In fact the comeback came entirely in the final inning, and it came with some fireworks. After the Indians put up three runs in the top of the third, they gave themselves a lead that they would hold onto until the very end. The Broncos were held scoreless until the bottom half of the seventh inning when Emily George hit a two run home run to bring them within just one run of the Indians. With two outs, Timber Oakes reached base off an Indian’s error, giving the Broncos another life right at the end. Then, the freshman came through as Tessa Janecke hit the Broncos second two run home run of the inning to give Orangeville a walk off win for Scheuerell’s four hun-

dredth win. After being held scoreless the entire game, Tori Plowman battled from the mound as she pitched seven innings while striking out eight and doing just enough to keep her team within reach to get the win. Coach Scheuerell knows that he couldn’t have done it all on his own, saying “I have been blessed to have some very talented and hardworking players that have come through the Orangeville softball program throughout eighteen seasons. I am thankful for the support of the Orangeville community, parents, and school district. Without them, the accomplishment would not have been possible.” Orangeville softball has been known as one of the better teams in the area for the entirety of Lon’s career, and as humble as he is, he has played a large role in pushing the girls and putting them in the best place to be successful.

Lady Panthers win over Milledgeville By Trent Scheidegger REPORTER

The Lena-Winslow softball team traveled to Milledgeville last Friday for yet another matchup on their season. It was a battle to start as both teams went scoreless throughout the first two innings. The Panthers jumped on the board first, however, when they put up a three spot in the top of the third. A pair of Milledgeville errors are what sparked the momentum for the Panthers offense and allowed Brunner tripled on a line drive to center field bringing in two runs. Brunner played a major role in the second inning as she eventually stole home allowing them to go up 3-0 heading into the bottom of the

third. They would extend their lead to 4-0 in the fourth when Streckwald singled to right field bringing in Wolfrum to score. They added another run in the top of the fifth when Bidlingmaier doubled to left field allowing Brunner to score. Milledgeville wouldn’t go down without a fight, however. In the bottom of the fifth they put up three runs thanks to a triple and a Panthers error which brought the score to 5-3

Lena-Winslow with two innings remaining. The Panthers were able to extend their lead in the final two innings. In the top of the seventh Schulz doubled bringing in two runs to put the game practically out of reach as they went up 10-3. Milledgeville managed to put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late as the Lady Panthers walked away with a 10-5 victory. Brunner led the way offensively

for the Panthers going two for four and driving in two runs while scoring another two of her own. Maya Curtis and Schulz also had two rbi’s on the day as it was a team effort to get the victory. Curtis got it done on the other side of the ball as well as she pitched all seven innings while striking out five and allowing four earned runs on her way to getting the win. The win pushed the Panthers record to 10-6 on the year.
