Lena Living Center opens its festive holiday season EDITOR
The Lena Living Center opened the holiday season with its annual Scarecrow Fest and Trunk or Treat Night. Other holiday events are planned, but the Scarecrow Fest is slated to become the gateway to winter fun at the Living Center. âWe moved the trunks indoors this year because of the rain and our residents are helping us pass out the candy,â said Lena Living Center Wellness and Life Enrichment Coach Leeann Weber. âWeâve had about 25 kids which was more than we expected and thatâs always a good thing.â She said there are games for the kids to play, treats and popcorn, hot apple cider and hot chocolate. There is also a sort of scary barnyard arrangement in the lobby for Halloween photo opportunities and another holiday background area set up for Christmas card photos. âWe are entertaining grandparents, aunts and uncles, our employees and their children and lots of folks from the community tonight,â said Living Center Administrator Dewayne Tremain. He said it is always their goal to include the Lena community and Scarecrow Fest accomplishes that nicely. âEveryone is having a great time decorating pumpkins,â said Tremain. âThey used all sorts of glitter and glue and yarn and beads and they all had fun. We have gifts and candies and popcorn all sorts of fun holiday things to do.â Frankly, it was hard to tell who was having more fun the children or the residents, but when it all came down fun was the key word. These events are a great piece of engagement for everyone regardless of their age,â Tremain said âAnd, our Scarecrow Festival is just the beginning.â A quick check on the Living Center Facebook calendar shows even more fun is in store for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. âOur Thanksgiving dinner is open to the Lena community and folks
âDifferent organizations from throughout the community sponsor trees in our forest,â he said. âThey put up the trees in the lobby and halls and decorate them. The trees are judged after Christmas dinner and the winner receives half the money thatâs raised by entry fees. The other half goes to the residentsâ Christmas party. We all love watching the trees come in and be decorated and in no time the entire facility takes on a festive air. This is just a wonderful time of the year.â Have you signed up to participate in the holiday fun? Beginning Nov. 22, the Lena Living Center will be accepting donations of decorated trees for their Enchanted Forest. Their goal is to fill the facility with as many festive trees as possible to make the residents feel the holiday spirit all month long. They are asking for a $10 donation fee with your tree: 50% goes to the winning tree; 50% goes to the residentâs holiday party. And, on Dec. 12, join the staff and residents for an Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. While there, Visit the Enchanted Forest, enjoy Holiday muCOURTESY PHOTO Shopperâs Guide sic by Mississippi Man.
