Eastland/Pearl City opens playoffs in blowout fashion By Trenten Scheidegger REPORTER

The Undefeated Wildcats holding the three seed, hosted 14-seed in Chicago Harlan last Saturday. EPC wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Jarod Kempel took the opening kickoff to the house, giving them a 7-0 lead to start the game. Following the kick return, the Wildcat Defense put points on the board with an Interception return for a touchdown as the Wildcats found themselves with an early 14-0 lead. Chicago Harlan found themselves backed up near their own goal line on the following drive, and a holding penalty in their end zone led to a safety expanding the Wildcats lead to

The Lena-Winslow Panthers came into the playoffs with an 8-1 record and the fourth-seed as they hosted Lewistown who was 5-4 at the 13seed. Junior Sean Ormiston and the Panthers wasted no time as a 43 yard scamper eventually lead to Ormiston’s fifteenth TD of the season with a five-yard plunge into the end zone. Cade Benson followed up with the two-point conversion, giving Le-Win an early 8-0 lead. A 59-yard touchdown run, followed by a Hudson Humphrey interception led way for another Ormiston touchdown run, giving the Panthers a large 32-0 lead in just the first quarter. The Panthers Defense put some points on the board, with a safety to start the second quarter. After the free kick, QB Cade Benson found Isaiah Bruch in the end zone for a 47-yard touchdown pass, putting the game nearly out of reach at 42-0. The Benson to Bruch connection stayed hot, as their next drive featured a 75-yard connection giving the Panthers a 50 to nothing lead before halftime. A Chicago-Harlem fumble would make way for a Cade Benson touchdown run for a 56-0 lead. Lewistown was able to get on the board late in the half with a touchdown run of their own. The 56-6 lead would enable the running clock for the entirety of the second half. Freshman Ethan Frye found his way into the end zone early in the second half, putting the Panthers up by 58 points. Lewistown would manage to score again late in the third, but Le-Win would take advantage of the running clock the rest of the way. The Panthers managed to run out the clock on their 64-14 victory, allowing them to move on to the next round. Lena-Winslow will host the fifth-seed Chicago Orr for round 2.

16-0 with 10 minutes still remaining in the first quarter. A nine-yard Harlan touchdown pass followed by a failed two-point conversion would shorten the deficit to 16-6. EPC took little time to expand their lead once again with back to back rushing touchdowns, one from Jaydon Kempel gave the Wildcats a 30-6 lead with 7:27 left in the second. Yet another Collyn Kabursky in-

terception made way for a spectacular catch from Travis Spong, putting the Wildcats in scoring position once again. Braedon Heeren capitalized on the opportunity with a two-yard touchdown run, giving the Wildcats a 37-6 lead. After forcing a turnover on downs Jaydon Kempel bursted his way through the line for a 46-yard touchdown as the Wildcats were well on their way to a round one victory.

Chicago Harlan fumbled the ensuing kickoff, leading to yet another Kempel touchdown run putting the Wildcats up 51-6. Kempel finished the day with 120 yards rushing. The second half featured a running clock and mostly backups from the Wildcats as they looked to remain healthy heading in to round two when they face 11-seed Chicago Christian, with a final score of 58-26 EPC would do just that.
