Broncos bounce back from week six loss
The Orangeville Broncos were a perfect 5-0 to start their 2021 football season. It was good enough to get them ranked as one of the top teams in Illinois eight-man. Just when it seemed like the Broncos may pull off an undefeated campaign in their first eightman season, the Broncos met their demise in week six. The
Milledgeville Missiles held a 4-1 record coming into the matchup. Their only loss came in a week one duel with an undefeated Polo squad. The first quarter was a scoring party as the Broncos and Missiles combined for fifty-two points to start the game. The Broncos got on the board first as Gunar Lobdell broke
free on a fifty-yard touchdown run. The Missiles would get the next three scores, however, as the Broncos quickly found themselves trailing 186. Lobdell helped cut into the lead with his second score of the day, a seventeen yard scamper. Shortly after, Carson Rote connected with Nate Anderson on a thirteen yard pass,

bringing Orangeville within six, down 26-20. That was as close as the Broncos would get for the remainder of the game, however, as the Missiles took control for the final three quarters. Orangeville eventually fell by a score of 56-26 as they suffered their first loss of the season. Rote finished the game with ninety-two passing yards and a pair of touchdowns on five completions. Lobdell led the team in yards with one hundred eighty-one rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Anderson caught all five of Rote’s passes for ninety one yards and two touchdown receptions. After suffering their first loss, it was key for the Broncos to get back to their winning ways, quick. They did just that when they traveled to Hanover to face off with the River Ridge Wildcats, on Friday, October 8. The Broncos responded to their loss in a big way as they had their best performance
of the 2021 regular season. Lobdell was the first to score again as he busted a forty-four yard touchdown run to start the game. Shortly after, Rote plunged into the endzone from one yard out to extend their lead. Lobdell then scored the longest touchdown of the Broncos’ season as he ran it ninety-eight yards for the score. After their longest play from scrimmage, Orangeville quickly found themselves leading 21-0 after one quarter. The Broncos put up even more points in the second quarter as they combined for thirty-five. Lobdell had three of those scores on a pair of thirty-four yard runs and a twenty-nine yard reception. Joey Thomm also tallied a score in the second with a oneyard plunge into the endzone. With a massive 56-0 lead at halftime, Orangeville was able to coast their way towards a victory in the second half. Rote was a perfect four for four with fifty four passing yards and a touchdown. Lobdell had a huge day with two
hundred and forty-two yards and four scores on just six carries. Michael Mackenzie was the next leading rusher with fifty-two yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. After bouncing back in a big way with their 70-8 victory over River Ridge, the Broncos were back and rolling as they got in the win column. Their momentum continued to build in week seven when they toppled Amboy 55-6. Rote had a massive day through the air as he threw for two hundred and twenty-three yards and three touchdowns to help his team tally their seventh win. Lobdell had another four score game to go along with one hundred and fifty-seven rushing yards as the star duo continues to impress for the Broncos. After their final regular season opponent was forced to forfeit, the Broncos finished the season with an overall record of 8-1. The Broncos will face off with Hiawatha on Saturday, October 30, for the first round of the I8FA playoffs.
