Lena-Winslow football keeps rolling Trenten Scheidegger CORRESPONDENT

Last Friday night the Lena-Winslow Panthers were originally scheduled to face off with the Stockton Blackhawks, but Mother Nature had other plans in store. The thunderstorms in the area forced the Panthers to push their game back to Saturday afternoon. Saturday, once the teams were finally able to play in some better weather, the delay appeared to cause some sloppy play for both teams, but it was nothing the resilient Panthers couldn’t fight through and overcome. This matchup was expected to be one of the tougher ones on the Panther’s schedule, as the Blackhawks came in with a 3-1 overall record and hoped to be the team to put a dent in the

Panther’s loss column. Le-Win came in as the number two ranked team in the state in class 1A, however, and would prove to be too much for the Blackhawks when it all was said and done. It was a rough start for both teams but the LeWin defense came out playing like their usual selves and disrupted the Stockton offense early and often. After both teams punted, the Panther defense forced another stop which allowed their offense to drive down the field and eventually punch it into the endzone when Isaiah Bruce carried it into the endzone for the first score of the day. Following the two point conversion, Le-Win held an 8-0 lead. The defense then proved strong again as they forced another Stock-

ton punt, only this time the special teams capped it off by blocking the punt which would be recovered by Stockton in their own endzone for a safety. The big play by Ronnie Valentine allowed the Panthers to push their lead to double digits up 10-0. The score would remain that way until the end of the first. The first quarter has been huge for the Panthers all year long as they have out-

scored their opponents 80-6 in all of their opening quarters combined this season. Just when the Le-Win offense appeared to be driving again to begin the second, the Stockton defense pulled through and Cody Schultz nabbed an interception to give his team the ball back. They were unable to take advantage however, as they eventually were forced to punt.

Lena-Winslow Class of 1964

The interception was just Le-Win’s third turnover all season. As soon as the ball went back to the Panther’s hands, they gave up their fourth turnover as Sean Ormiston fumbled after taking a big hit. Before this game, the Panthers had just two turnovers, and now they had two turnovers in just two plays.
