‘Clear the Shelters Day’ set for Saturday, Aug. 17 at MCAC
McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center (MCAC) will participate in the 5th annual Clear the Shelters Day on Saturday, Aug. 17. Adoption fees for all adoptable cats and dogs over 6 months of age will be waived during the event, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at 100 N. Virginia Street in Crystal Lake. The adoption fee for available puppies and kittens will also be reduced. “Finding good homes for all of our animals is always our mission, but this special day gives us the opportunity to highlight our pets, who are so deserving of love. Not only is the adoption fee waived, but adopted pets go to their new home already spayed or neutered, micro chipped, treated for parasites, fleas and ticks and vaccinated with age appropriate vaccines, including the rabies shot.” said Maryellen Howell, Manager of McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center. MCAC joins over 1,200 shelters across the country for this event. In 2018, MCAC found homes for all but two animals. Across the country, Clear the Shelters has helped 256,688 pets find forever homes since it began in 2015. For more information, visit www. nbcchicago.com, www.mcdh.info or call MCAC at 815-459-6222. McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center is located at 100 North Virginia Street in Crystal Lake.

Meet Bozey! This 1-year-old Pitbull/Lab mix is a friendly, fun-loving pup who is looking for a home as the only dog so he can get the attention and training he deserves. He would do best with kids over 12 years of age, if any, as he is an energetic boy. He is happy, playful, and loves dips in the baby pool at the shelter. With a bit of training to work on his manners and obedience skills, he will be the best boy! (Left) This cutie is Churro, a little Chihuahua mix who was brought to the shelter as a stray and was not claimed. She is about 7 years old and is a sweet girl who takes some time to warm up to new people. Once you have earned her trust, she likes being held and enjoys going on walks. She would do best in a quiet, adult-only home.

This Labor Day, drive sober or get pulled over As Illinoisans gear up to mark the end of summer with Labor Day celebrations throughout the state, the Woodstock Police Department announced its plans for a traffic safety campaign focusing on drunk, unbuckled, and distracted drivers. “Our goal is to help ensure that our community’s residents and visitors make it home safely after the party ends,” said Chief John Lieb. “We’ll be out in force to keep impaired drivers off the roads. If you’ll be celebrating, we urge you to plan ahead for a sober ride. It could be a matter of life or death.” The Woodstock Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement across Illinois for the increased statewide effort. The high-visibility crackdown will run from Aug. 16 through the holiday weekend into the early morning hours of Sept. 3. Before the fun starts this Labor Day, remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive drunk. Even a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The crackdown runs concurrently with a media campaign reminding motorists that impaired driving has “Life or Death” consequences. Visit LifeOrDeathIllinois.com for more information.
