Postcard shows Clark’s Market, Main St., Hebron, 1908
Samuel Clark was the owner of Clark’s Market in Hebron when this photo was taken about 1908. Clark was a progressive business man of Hebron successfully engaged in purveying choice meats and groceries. He enjoyed a wide-extended trade from the people of Hebron and its vicinity. Clark farmed for a time and then learned the butchering trade. He followed it until 1898 when he came to Hebron and opened a market. Born in Wisconsin on Aug. 22, 1851, Samuel Clark married Elizabeth Robinson. Samuel and Elizabeth, had a daughter named Lydia who came to Hebron with her parents “as a small child.” Lydia married George Householder in McHenry County on March 16, 1904. She had a brother named William Clark. William born in 1874 married Tena Hanson/Hansen. William worked in the store as a “grocery salesman.” Both the Clark and Householder families lived next to one another and the two families are buried together in the same plot in the Hebron cemetery.
Tina Han helps patients make informed decisions about testing, treatment
Centegra Sage Cancer Center welcomes genetic counselor Tina Han. Han offers genetic counseling in oncology and educates people about when genetic testing would be beneficial. There are more than 50 hereditary cancer syndromes, according to the National Cancer Institute. Han helps patients make informed choices about genetic testing, medical options and treatment plans. “Currently, for every 10 people with cancer, there is one person who has an identifiable change in a certain gene that can predispose them to developing cancer,” Han said. “However, simply carrying a gene doesn’t mean a person will go on to develop cancer.” People who might be referred for genetic counseling are those with unusual cancers, a pattern of cancers across close relatives or those who were diagnosed with cancer before age 50. Han earned her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling at Northwestern University and her Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Behavior at the University of Massachusetts. She completed her American Cancer Society fellowship at the University of California Berkeley. Han is licensed and board-certified in genetic counseling. “We continue to add advanced services to better serve our community,” said Rachel Sebastian, Centegra Hospital-McHenry president. “Genetic counseling and testing can empower people to learn their risk for a particular disease, such as breast cancer, which affects 1 in 8 women at some point in their lives.” To schedule a consultation with Han or for more information, call 815-344-8000.
