McHenry High School to welcome new principal
Dr. Jeff Prickett will join McHenry Community High School District 156 as the new Principal of East Campus. Dr. Prickett was approved at the District 156 Board of Education Meeting. He served as Principal of Bernotas Middle School (District 47) in Crystal Lake for the past three years. In that role Dr. Prickett was the instructional and operational leader for the school, which has approximately 1,000 students and more than 100 staff members. He is a passionate advocate for students and has an amazing ability to connect with his school community to build and foster meaningful relationships. In 2016, Dr. Prickett was named the Illinois Principals Association (IPA) Kishwaukee Region Middle School Principal of the Year and in 2017 was a Golden Apple Principal nominee. He not only brings a wealth of positive, proactive, and community building experience to our district, but also first-hand knowledge working with our feeder schools to improve vertical alignment, articulation, and high school readiness. Dr. Prickett’s experience as building leader, his ability to connect to all stakeholder groups and his motivation to transform teaching and learning will be a welcome addition
to our school community. Dr. Prickett is also a passionate believer in the principles of restorative justice. He has presented on the philosophies and tenets of this disciplinary approach to teachers, administrators, and educational leaders throughout the State of Illinois. Dr. Prickett has been a building Principal for the past 13 years. Prior to leading Bernotas, he was the Principal of Round Lake Middle School and Murphy Elementary School (District 116). He also served as the Assistant Principal and Dean of Students at Parkland Middle School (District 15). He began his career in education in 1997 as an English Teacher at Kerr Middle School in Blue Island, Ill. Dr. Prickett earned his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from National Louis University, holds a Master of Arts in Administration from Aurora University and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Judson College in Elgin, IL. He lives in McHenry with his wife and children. Dr. Prickett is excited to meet everyone here at District 156 and begin his new role as the leader of East Campus. He will be contacting East Campus teachers and staff over the summer and will officially take the helm on July 1.
Two charged for armed robbery at Marengo Pharmacy On Sunday, June 11, the Marengo Police Department along with McHenry County swat team arrested Timothy J. Hill, and Nancy A. Eiring, for the alleged offense of aggravated armed robbery with a weapon; to the Marengo Community Pharmacy Inc. located at 308 S. State St in Marengo, Ill. On Sunday, at 11:08 a.m., the Marengo Police Department responded to an armed robbery in progress at the Marengo Community Pharmacy. Prior to the officer’s arrival, the offenders had left the scene; officers received a description of the offenders and the vehicle they left in. One of the offenders was armed with an unknown type of firearm, the offenders left with an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs.
A short time later a Marengo officer found the vehicle parked at 305 N. State St; Marengo officers secured the area. The McHenry County swat team was called out to assist with the situation. The offenders were taken into custody without incident. A weapon was recovered from the vehicle. Both offenders were taken to the hospital as a precaution for possibly ingesting some of the prescriptions, after their release from the hospital they were transported to the McHenry County jail. Units from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, Harvard Police Department, McHenry City Police Department, Woodstock Police Department and the Marengo Fire Department assisted with the incident.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Dept. welcomed its newest K-9 Officer to the force last week. His name is Deuce and he is a German Shepherd born Sept. 15, 2015. He will be joining his handler, Deputy Cosman’s household, which includes retired K-9 Rocky. He is a hardworking dog that loves water, slides, and is not afraid of heights.
Homes damaged, destroyed when house explodes At approximately 4:50 a.m. last Sunday morning Marengo Fire Department, Marengo Police, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Union Fire Department, Woodstock Fire Department, Belvidere Fire Department, Huntley Fire Department, Genoa Fire Department, Wonder Lake Fire Department, Hebron Fire Department, Rutland Fire Department, Hampshire Fire Department, Algonquin Fire Department, Harvard Fire Department, Pingree Grove Fire Department, Burlington Fire Department, Nunda Township Fire Department, and McHenry County EMA responded to the 500 block of 7th Ave in Marengo for an explosion. More than 50 homes were impacted and two people were transported by Huntley Rescue to CentegraWoodstock with minor injuries, after a home exploded and caught fire this morning. Four homes sustained fire damage while more than 50 other home sustained damage from the explosion. The Illinois State Fire Marshal is on scene investigating. The Salvation Army, Red Cross, and M.E.S.S. responded to assist with the displaced residents. Marengo High School, located at 110 Franks Road in Marengo, is currently open as a cooling station for residents
and their animals. Utility companies are on scene and are continuing their assessments. ComEd states that 136 customers were impacted by this incident and are working on restoring power. The McHenry County Building Department along with building inspectors from surrounding municipalities are currently conducting damage assessments on the impacted homes. Residents have reported that solicitors have been going door-to-door for home repair. Soliciting in Marengo requires a permit and at this time no permits are being issued. Residents should be aware that after incidents such as this one, many scammers use this as an opportunity to take advantage of residents. Marengo Mayor John Koziol cautions residents to be aware of this and encourages them to work through their insurance company to address any necessary repairs. Displaced residents are asked to contact the City of Marengo at updates@cityofmarengo.com or 815703-9707 to provide their names, address, and phone number. Updated information will also be posted on the City’s website, www.cityofmareno.com, and Facebook page. This way city officials can keep them updated on when they can return to their homes.
