Lawrence J. Kane has been appointed as the new fire chief of the Harvard Fire Protection District.
The Harvard Fire Protection District has announced the appointment of Lawrence J. Kane to the position of fire chief. He reported for duty for the first time on Feb. 10, 2020. According to Roger Hugg, president of the Fire District Board of Trustees, “Kane was selected after a candidate review and evaluation conducted by the Illinois Fire Chief’s Association. Two names
were presented to the district trustees for final consideration.” Hugg further said “The final decision was made by trustees after two rounds of interviews with the two candidates.” Kane is a 26-year veteran of the public safety community. He has served as both police officer and firefighter/paramedic during his tenure. He was employed by the Glen-
view Fire Department where he had risen through the ranks to his current position of battalion chief. Kane’s expansive fire service experience made him an attractive candidate for the Harvard chief’s position. While in Glenview, as a member of the Training Division, Larry coordinated Fire Officer Development programs, participated on the Hazardous Materials Re-
sponse Team for MABAS Division 3, accrued extensive experience in the preparation of fire department operational budgets, and researched and revised operational and administrative standard operating guidelines. Kane has a Master of Science Degree in Public Safety Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Fire Science Management. He is also a
graduate of the Midwest Leadership Institute. Kane is certified in the use of the National Incident Management System and the Incident Command System. “Larry Kane comes from a family of fire department people” Hugg said, “and will be an asset to Harvard in the future development of our department.” Kane’s parents are residents of rural Harvard.
