The 2021 beef weigh-in has been reschduled to Saturday, Feb. 20, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the fairgrounds in the beef barn.

Woodstock man faces sexual assault charges On Feb. 9, the Woodstock Police Department began an investigation into an allegation of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

A Woodstock Police Department detective met with members of a multi-disciplinary team including representatives from the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), the McHenry County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office. The goal of the team was to provide services to the victim and to hold the alleged suspect accountable for his actions.

The investigation revealed that a male family member of the victim had committed numerous acts of predatory criminal sexual assault of child to the victim. Upon conferring with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, numerous charges were approved against the suspect.

The suspect, James W. Seekings, was taken into custody without incident during the evening hours of Feb. He remains in custody at the

Due to the victim being a juvenile, no further information will be released.

Seekings faces nine counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child (Class X Felony); and one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse (Class 2 Felony).

Woodstock man faces sexual abuse and assault charges At different dates and times during the latter half of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, the Woodstock Police Department investigated several criminal sexual assault allegations by different victims involving the same offender. The victims all identified the suspect as 29-year-old Woodstock resident Antione Davon Truesdell.

Upon reaching the threshold of probable cause during the investigation, and then conferring with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, charges were approved against Truesdell and an arrest warrant was issued. While conducting surveillance on Truesdell’s residence, Woodstock police officers located Truesdell and took him into

custody without incident.

Despite an arrest being made, this is still an ongoing investigation. The Woodstock Police Department has reason to believe there are additional victims that have yet to be identified.

Truesdell was scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11, charged with Criminal Sexual Assault, Class 1 Felony; Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 4 Felony; and Battery-Cause Bodily Harm, Class A Misdemeanor.

Two seek primary election victory as Ward 2 alderman

Two candidates for a four-year term as Ward 2 alderman are hoping to win Tuesday’s Republican primary election and move on to the April 6 consolidated election. The semi-finalists are the current officer holder, Daniel Arevalo, and challenger Natalie Mulhall. The winner will meet Independent Catherine Rose Barnes in the April 6 final voting.

Daniel Arevalo Arevalo already had served one full term on city council when he was appointed to fill the Ward 2 seat in 2020. That happened after council declared the position vacant because the alderman at the time, Michael Borowicz, did not regularly attend meetings.

Arevalo was asked two questions for this story: (1) What prompted you to seek a full, four-year term in Ward 2? and (2) Why should voters select you? Here are his responses: (1) “I deeply care about our community and want to continue to see it progress until the next century, and not see it regress to the previous century. I will continue to be the bridge for the minorities in our community, and be an elected representative for all Belvidere residents and Ward 2.

My passion only deepens within me.

I am vigorously helping and pushing Belvidere to become more diverse, best reflected in the community.”

(2) Residents of Belvidere in Ward 2 should help me continue to be their voice, best represented and reflected by the Ward. I will continuously find ways to educate myself better to make sound decisions and help Belvidere not be in a precarious position. I continue to find ways to be involved in organizations to serve my community and surrounding region.

I will be a leader for my Ward and be the voice and leader of Belvidere, and the surrounding area.

Making Tracks Last Thursday evening we received a bit of snow. Unlike earlier this month, this was a light fluffy snow. As it covered the yard, it wiped the slate clean. Boone County vaccination rollout plans, part 2 EDITOR

Forward Boone held a lengthy webinar on Thursday, Jan. 29, detailing the vaccine rollout plans for Boone County. As this is a great concern for many Boone County residents, here is part two of the information Amanda Mehl detailed for us.

“For 1A, frontline healthcare workers, we pushed out information to the group and via press releases and social media in case there was anyone we had missed in our initial outreach efforts. The other thing we have gone live with is closed points of distribution. Close pods are what we use when we are working to vaccinate a very large group of individuals. For example, this week (Week of Jan. 25), we began the education sector within 1B. So our two public school sectors and our parochial schools, our daycares, and our child care centers were also included in that group.

“We hosted specific clinics for those target groups. They received a specific link and they were able to click on their link and register for a specific time slot. We were able to base our staffing and our throughput (how quickly we can get people through those clinics) on a number of factors and we have been very successful with the correct number of staff to handle the volume of people coming through those clinics.

“As we move forward, the EM Track system will be used for the rest of 1B and we will also expand it as we expand into 1C, and then Phases 2 and 3 of the vaccine rollout. So far the scheduling system has worked fantastically and we plan to continue using it. Our staff has been trained and they are offering to train others for the volunteers and the additional clinical staff that we will be pushing out to get the vaccine into the arms of Boone County residents.

“We are not offering walk-in appointments here at the Boone County Health Dept. at this time. A little later that will happen, but as of this time, the Boone County Health Dept. and the other partners that are being mentioned are not accepting walk-in appointments. The clinics are invitation only. As that changes and progresses, we will give updates. We are asking people: please do not walk-in to our facility or to any other facilities that are mentioned as we are not prepared to handle walk-in appointments. Right now they are working behind the scenes to get those clinics organized so that they can function as efficiently and safely as is possible.

“Remember, we are dealing with a respiratory virus here so we have to have social distancing maintained, we have to have surfaces wiped down, and, as especially as we expand to the Boone County’s 65 and older population, we need to make sure that, with that population in particular, all safety precautions are followed to a T. That is one of our most vulnerable groups within our population and those safety measures have to taken to ensure their safety and to protect them as they are arriving for their vaccine.

“We do not have a general registration for the general public at this time. We do have an electronic email, (COVID19@boonehealth.org) and phone number (815-547-8561) signup system for information so you can get updates from the Boone County Health Dept.

“1B, huge category, encompasses, (not in order of priority) Frontline Workers: first responders, education, food and agriculture, manufacturing, Corrections workers and inmates,

United States Postal Services workers, public transit workers, grocery store workers, and shelters/adult day care workers; and Elders aged 65 and older.

“Scheduling will depend on how much vaccine we receive, will we get any additional vaccine per my request, when we find out we will know better how to schedule the next couple of weeks. Locally we have been holding invitation only clinics for our way through first responders that were not included in 1A. We have been working on our education sector. We are starting our second doses for everyone in 1A that are due for a second dose. We will continue to vaccinate first responders and education workers as we have not been able to do everyone yet. We had a closed point of distribution for one of our sectors the week of Jan. 25. And several closed points of distribution for our other schools the week of Feb. 1.

“We will continue to complete second doses for everyone and will also move forward to the manufacturing sector. We ran a pilot with SwedishAmerican Hospital and Chrysler FCA. Those clinics were held the week of Feb. 1, specifically targeting that manufacturing department. In the following weeks, we will take that pilot project and we will duplicate that clinic model, taking lessons learned into our plans moving forward to, in quick succession, vaccinate the rest of the manufacturing industry.

“As the rollout takes place, our

planning continues. Our manufacturing partners continue collaborating with us behind the scenes. There have been emails, conference calls, and planning sessions and discussion about the best way to continue, locations, closed pods, how to get their employees registered, etc. That planning has been happening for weeks.

Vaccine dependent, the manufacturing sector will continue to receive doses as quickly as we can push them out.

“The other planning process that is very strong and very well underway is the planning for opening up clinics for our 65 and older population.

One of the things that we have been doing and has proven very helpful – we have partnered with the Keen Age Center and the Boone County Council on Aging to host weekly conference calls. We have been pushing out information via Facebook and social media, but we know a call in option will be extremely helpful if we want to reach everybody within our 65 and older population.”

Update Feb. 11: Appointments are available at multiple locations in Boone County for residents 65 and older.

Officials announced today that Boone County is expanding COVID-19 vaccination to individuals age 65 and older, as part of the State of Illinois Mass Vaccination Plan’s Phase 1B. County residents 65 and older can begin scheduling appointments now for openings at clinics im-

mediately.

“As the vaccine becomes available to more of our residents, the County continues its deep commitment to equity and ensuring access for our populations most at risk of contracting COVID-19,” said Amanda Mehl, Boone County Health Department Public Health Administrator. “We have successfully secured additional doses from the Illinois Department of Public Health, allowing the County to expand operations by opening a clinic in partnership with the Keen Age Center who will host the clinics and Meijer Pharmacy who will help administer vaccine to our Boone County Seniors.”

“We are coordinating efforts with our local health department to ensure those at greatest risk can be vaccinated as quickly as possible,” says Kelly Hillan, executive director of the Boone County Council on Aging.

The county is also partnering with two local pharmacies, O’Brien & Dobbins in Belvidere and Snyders Pharmacy in Poplar Grove, to ensure that residents can access vaccines in community-based settings.

Thomas Felker, pharmacist for Snyders, commented, “We are excited to finally start putting our COVID-19 vaccination plans into motion. As we start receiving vaccine, we will be proactively calling our 65 and older patients, as well as accepting telephone calls to start scheduling our COVID-19 vaccinations.”

Additionally, Crusader Community

Health in Belvidere will be offering the vaccine to their current patients who fall within the 65 and older population and are Boone County residents. If you are an established Crusader Community Health patient 65 and older and are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, please discuss with your Crusader provider at your next appointment. If you do not have an upcoming appointment, Crusader will be communicating with all patients 65 and older who have been seen in the last 18 months to schedule their vaccination appointment.

Due to safety and spacing requirements, all clinics are by appointment only and must be scheduled prior to arrival. Monday morning, Feb. 8, the Belvidere Fire Department was dispatched at 7:57 a.m. to the 1900 block of Carly Lane in Belvidere for a report of a garage fire. First arriving fire crews observed light smoke and flames coming from the area of an electrical outlet.

The fire was quickly extinguished and fire crews checked for fire extension in the garage attic with none found. The fire was determined to be electrical in nature causing an estimated $5,000 damage at this residence valued at $160,000. No injuries to occupants

Fantasy football family We’re a big fantasy football family. Have been since we started our own league in 2014. My daughter and I never paid much attention to the NFL prior to this, but when the guys in your life love football, you find it in your heart to love football as well – or at least to participate in the family fantasy football league.

Draft day is in early September.

We all gather – in person or virtually – to pick our respective teams.

The draft order depends on your performance the year prior. Those who bombed get first choice for draft pick; those who did well go to the back of the line.

For some, draft choices come naturally; for others, like me, it requires research, guesswork, and lots of luck. I also rely heavily on recommendations from drafting pros, who live over at ESPN. I am proud to announce, that after seven years I can confidently distinguish a running back from a tight end, and know which should be drafted before the other – unless you are talking about a superstar like Kelce or Kittle.

There are a number of rules for draft order, some of them counterintuitive (in my opinion).

Any fantasy pro will tell you that first in the draft order are running backs and wide receivers (and maybe the exceptional tight end), but not kickers, defensive teams, or even quarterbacks. You wait on those. It’s hard to wait on a quarterback, at least for me, but if you’re smart you follow the rules.

Despite his vast football knowledge and keen expertise in draft picks, my husband never won the title; he was typically near the bottom of the pile. He didn’t mind. He was always a good sport about it and was quick to laugh at himself. For him it was about family fun. For him it was always about family. So he didn’t mind losing; and we didn’t mind beating him.

Until this year.

He started the 2020 season slow and slower. After six weeks he had but one win (against me) and was at the bottom of our family bracket.

Odds of him winning the season at that point were slim to none.

But things were about to change.

His losing streak moved to the “W” column week seven. He was still helping to manage his lineup at that point and got a couple of unexpected

and legitimate wins. He was winning at football, but we saw he was losing his other battle. And, somehow, collectively, without even discussing it, we decided he would win the trophy this year.

During the last eight weeks of the regular season and two weeks of playoffs, he averaged 90 points per game while his opponents scored an average of just 23 points.

In layman’s terms, we threw the games against him because we are family. Because it felt like the right thing to do. Because he always wanted to get his name on the trophy and it was the least we could do to make sure that happened.

The trophy is officially yours for the year, Thom. Your name is inscribed in permanent ink and will stay there forever, or at least until family fantasy football is a thing of the past, which I don’t see happening anytime soon.

This year, you are our champion.

And you’ll continue to be next year, and the year after that because as far as we are concerned, you are our GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).

Always have been, always will be.

And next September, I promise I’ll do my best to draft both Thielen and Gronk for my team. You always knew how to pick the good ones.

As Vice-President of Illinois Municipal League and Chairman of our first ever Regional Planning Commission, Mike is the most qualified candidate for mayor. His sound fiscal policies have kept taxes down, including cutting administration to keep escalating

costs at bay and retaining a balanced budget.

I’ve seen propagandist signage about a tax hike, but when I looked into that, I was taken to a video that was intended to disparage the mayor. What I saw instead was an unruly council, seemingly unfamiliar with parliamentary procedure. How embarrassing!

I will be voting for integrity – to re-elect Mayor Mike Chamberlain!

JERRY E. BARDON Jerry E. Bardon of Garden Prairie died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at Northwoods Nursing Home.

He was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Helman) Bardon. Jerry joined the Army in the early 1970s. He retired from Chrysler in Belvidere after 43 years. He was also a Cub and Boy Scout troop leader for many years.

Jerry married Carolyn Bemesderfer on June 29, 1963. She preceded him in death. He then married Linda Johns in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Joseph (Beth) Bardon and two step-daughters, Angela Johns and Glenda (Chad) Charlton. Jerry had 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grand-
