Be a ‘Lost Valley nature detective’ Become a “nature detective” at Glacial Park, starting at the Lost Valley Visitor Center.
It’s a beautiful day for hiking, bird watching, and wildlife tracking. Start your Lost Valley Nature Detective adventure at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Rt. 31 and Harts Road, Ringwood. Indoor displays and activities will get you ready for
an outdoor exploration and each month features a new topic. Check out the free exploration backpack to borrow binoculars and field guides and grab a scavenger hunt to help you search the wild spaces of Glacial Park.
December — Winter Birds. Learn more about animals that stay around in winter by reading “Lewis Cardinal’s First Winter,” by Amy Crane Johnson. Play a winter bird feeding game and use binoculars to see birds visiting our winter feeders.
Topics change monthly: Jatnuary — Animal Tracks; February — Winter Trees. Week day or weekend, morning or afternoon, stop by the Lost Valley Visitor Center, open daily, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closed: Dec. 24, 25 and 31.

McHenry County seeks corrections officers
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is currently taking applications for the position of correctional officer. The written test will take place on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, and the Physical Agility Exam will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020. Applications and all required documents must be received by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. Applications for correctional officers can be found at www. mchenrysheriff.org or at the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Facility. Qualifications to apply are as follows: • Age: Minimum of 21 years of age. Applicants may test at age 20, but must be 21 years of age at time of appointment. • Education: High school diploma or GED. • Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen. • Experience: No prior experience required. • Driver’s License: Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license. • FOID Card: Applicant must possess a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card. (Can be applied for online at: www.ispfsb.com). • Residency: Must live in McHenry County or any bordering Illinois counties, or Kenosha/Walworth counties in Wisconsin, within one year of hiring. Starting pay is currently $52,021, with top base pay at $87,693 after 10 years, with paid holidays, paid vacation and sick time after one-year probation.
