Culinary arts kitchen offers new opportunities The D155 Board of Education hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Culinary Arts kitchen at Crystal Lake South High School on Oct. 11. The state-of-the-art facility is a commercial kitchen featuring six food preparation stations, a classroom that also serves as a dining room, a dry storage room, a walk-in cooler, and a wash and storage area. “When I first walked into the kitchen and the classroom, I thought that I had just walked into a restaurant or professional kitchen because of all the new stainless steel appliances. The class has exceeded my expectations,” said Emma Clesceri, Crystal Lake South junior. Culinary students prepared several dishes for the special event including banana bread, a variety of cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, fruit tarts, and baked and decorated a custom cake. “The reason I decided to take this class was because I have always loved cooking it is a passion for me. My goal after high school is to pursue a career in culinary arts and hoping to get my bachelors degree it is my dream to one day to have my own restaurant and not cooking for the money but to cook to make other people happy and to do what I love and that is cooking,” said Eduardo Hernandez, said Crystal Lake Central senior. Food Warming Equipment, Inc., a local Crystal Lake business, donated two food warmers to the program. McHenry County College award-
