Cary Police to host Drug Take Back event

The Cary Police Department will be joining thousands of other law enforcement agencies participating in the next Drug Enforcement Administrations (DEA) “National Take Back Initiative” on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Take Back Initiative allows residents to drop off old, unwanted, unused and expired prescription drugs at the police station to be properly disposed of. Please note that no syringes or liquids will be accepted. Studies show that teens often abuse prescription drugs from other family members or friends - drugs that should have been disposed of. Often people dispose of unused drugs by throwing them in the trash or flushing them down the drain - both of which are a mistake,

as flushed drugs contaminate the water supply. Last April, Americans turned in 450 tons (900,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at almost 5,500 sites operated by the DEA and more than 4,200 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in its 13 previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 8.1 million pounds - more than 4,050 tons of pills. Personnel will be available at the Cary Police Department, 654 Village Hall Drive, Cary, to accept prescription drug drop-offs during the above hours. The Cary Police Department also has a permanent drug drop off container in the lobby of the Police Station if residents are unable to attend this event.

Two arrested for Marengo burglaries On Sept. 20, Marengo Police arrested two individuals connected to the burglaries of several Marengo businesses and one residence that occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 19 and 20. Arrested were; Robert H Charping, 1221 N. State St, Marengo, 56, was charged with five counts of Burglary, four courts

ofTheft and five counts of Criminal Damage to Property Nichole R DePew,1221 N. State St., Marengo, 38, was charged with one count of Burglary, one count of Possession of Stolen Property, and one count of Criminal Trespass. Both persons were transported to McHenry County Jail.

Environmental Defenders to host Recycling Drive on Oct. 14

The Environmental Defenders will hold its next monthly drive at Harvard City Hall, 201 W. Diggins St., on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon (or until truck is full): For information on future drives, please go to www.mcdef.org/recycling. Donations offset the costs of transportation and fees charged to Environmental Defenders of McHenry County by recyclers who separate materials and forward those materials to companies who prepare them for future use. Environmental Defenders of McHenry County is a local non-profit, and receives no government funding to offer this service to the community. Items accepted: TVs and computer monitors – There is a charge of $.50 per pound (but not exceeding a maximum of $40 per each single device) Fluorescent Tubes – Charge is $.50 to $1 each depending on size Batteries – Charge is $.50 per pound for household, rechargeable, car, and button batteries No charge for the following (but donations are appreciated): Misc. Electronics – Anything that plugs in or runs on batteries Cloth items – clothing, linens, or just plain rags, clean and in a bag. You can also bring shoes, tied together by their laces and placed in the bag. Clean Styrofoam – all colors Reusable bubble wrap VHS & cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs and floppy disks Special electronics recycling drives are also scheduled for those who live in McHenry Township for: Oct. 21, and Nov. 18.
