The Monticello Area Historical Society (MAHS) is meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27 in the Zwingli UCC Lounge, 416 E. Lake Ave. in Monticello.

Following a short meeting, Jeanne Waelchli-Traut talks about preserving family history with self-created photo books.

Self-created photo books are a great way to preserve family history. Waelchli-Traut discusses how her family members have shared, listened, and collected stories and photos to create books to preserve their own family histories.

Each book tells of two life-changing generations: the generation of immigrants from Switzerland and the first generation of U.S. born citizens.

Parents, great-aunts, great-uncles, aunts, uncles, siblings, and cousins from the United States and Switzerland contributed stories, photos, and memories.

Waelchli-Traut also talks about sources she uses to find unknown facts and dates. Her final step is writing, organizing and creating the books to share with family, so that everyone has these memories at their fingertips.

This is a free presentation and will start at 7:15 p.m. The Public is welcome to attend both activities.

Albany Area Chamber of Commerce seeking vendors for Annual Fall Festival

Footville Fire Protection District is celebrating 100 years of service and protection. The event is Saturday, Sept.

29 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Activities for the celebration include donation flyer photo sessions, free food, Jaws of Life extrication demonstrations, face painting, raffles, and fire hose activities.

A fire truck parade takes place at 6 p.m. with live music from Cary and Crud to follow at 7 p.m.

Footville Fire Department has served the townships of Center and Magnolia, as well as the village of Footville. The department covers 39 square miles and offers Fire and EMS services. Footville Fire Department is located at 252 North Gilbert St. in Footville.

This is the premier event for the dairy industry, drawing more than 70,000 attendees from all over the world.

Albertson Memorial Library seeks travelers for library programs Next year Albertson Memorial Library wants to offer a series of programs to the public about traveling to interesting places.

Why? It is interesting and informative to the rest of us.

If you are from the area (Albany and surrounding communities), have traveled recently or plan to travel to an interesting place, and is willing to do a 30 to 45 minute presentation about your trip, we would love to schedule you to speak at an evening program next year.

Your travel can be in state, in country, or out-of-country. We are not picky Certainly, there are many interesting day or weekend trips in Wisconsin that are as interesting as traveling abroad.

The library director will work with you on what to include in your presentation. Library equipment available for presenters includes laptop computer, projector, computer speakers, podium, tables and chairs.

Albany Community Center to hold chili cook-off

The Albany Community Center is holding its 8th annual chili cook-off.

The event takes place Saturday, Sept.

29 in downtown Albany during the Fall Festival.

Rules for the cook-off • Set up for the event is from 9 to 10 a.m.

• Chili must be at the competition site by 10 a.m. to be eligible for judging.

• Public taste testing begins at 10 a.m.

Winners are announced at 11:30 a.m.

• The Albany Community Center Director and/or board members will oversee the taste testing and judging.

This allows the contest to have complete anonymity.

• Albany Community Center is providing tables, judging forms, taste testing cups, spoons, and napkins.

• Participants must provide their own crock-pot, extension cord, serving spoon, chili (1-2 gallons), and table decorations (optional).

There is no entry cost to participate. Prizes are awarded to Judge’s Favorite and People’s Choice. Entries are accepted on the day of the event. Cooks can pick up a form at the Albany Community Center at 400 5th Street in Albany.

Albany Comets Athletic Hall of Fame accepting nominations ALBANY COMETS PRESS RELEASE

Albany High School is accepting nominations for inductions into the Albany Comets Athletic Hall of Fame.

Nominees should be people who have had a positive/significant impact to Albany athletics over the years. A nominee may have had an impact to Albany athletics as an athlete, coach, fan, volunteer or other capacity.

Nominations began on Sept. 7 and ends Oct. 15. Once the nomination period ends, a committee is formed to evaluate all nominations. The evaluation process narrows nominations down to three inductees.

The three inductees and/or the people who nominated the inductees are contacted and given more information about the actual induction ceremony. If a person is nominated but not selected as an inductee, that nomination stays in rotation for future years of inductions.

They won’t have to be re-nominated in future years.

People making nominations are con-

tacted in late October to inform them if their nominee is being inducted this year. Albany has a long and rich athletics history and we invite you to nominate people from all time periods.

The following is established criteria for making a nomination: 1) Name, address, and phone number of the person making the nomination.

2) First and last name of the nominee.

3) A typed or written letter explaining who your nominee is and what they accomplished or the significant impact they had on Albany High School Athletics. This portion of the criteria should be completed in two pages or less.

Next Generation 4-H member donates 192 pounds of meat to Green Cares Food Pantry Mitchell Grossen is 16 years old and attends Monroe High School.

Mitchell is a member of the Monroe FFA and Next Generation 4-H Club of Juda.

Grossen was looking for a way to help those less fortunate in our community. He has helped in numerous community service activities over the years through 4-H and FFA and wanted to expand and touch more lives.

He raises pigs and sells them to youth around the area as fair projects.

Grossen decided he wanted to expand on his project. He decided to feed out an extra pig and donate it to the Green Cares Food Pantry of Monticello.

Mike and Deena Buol, owners of Green County Locker in Monroe donated the processing cost for Mitchell. Grossen was excited that Green County Locker was able to help him fulfill his goal of helping those in need. Grossen delivered 192 pounds of pork to Green Cares Food Pantry on Tuesday, Sept. 18.

Juda traveled to Argyle last Thursday to take on the Orioles. Juda kept scores in game one and three within winning reach, but Argyle attacked consistently and was able to sweep the Panthers.

Argyle was lead by all conference hitter Jenna Saalsaa. The Panthers kept balls live; recording 72 digs as a team. Paige Price led with 16 digs.

Game scores were 23-25, 11-25, and 18-25. Panther leaders included Hannah Powers with 5 kills, Karlee Nefler with 2 aces, Montana Steinmann with 9 assists and Paige Price with 16 digs. Juda’s conference record is 3-4 with an overall record of 9-5.

Argyle leaders included Jenna Saalsaa and Elizabeth Lantz each with 8 kills, Kristen Ostby with 8 aces and 27 assists, and Jordyn Saalsaa with 11 digs. The Orioles conference record is 6-1 with an overall record of 9-3.

The Juda School District is the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the America’s Farmer Grow Rural Education Program. Area farmers nominated the Juda School District. NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALIST Last week it was announced that senior Taylor Adkins was designated as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Of the 1.6 million people who start out the competition, only 16,000 people are designated Semifinalists. These students represent less than one percents of each state’s high school seniors. Taylor will be working on completing her application to become a finalist. Congratulations, Taylor! We are very proud of you.

VOLLEYBALL Juda Panthers played Monticello Tuesday, September 18. Panthers lost in three. The first match was 6-25. 25-21. In the second match, Panthers bounced back 29-27. The last match was 25-21. Panthers overall played really hard and had a good game. Hannah Powers CROSS COUNTRY The cross country team ran at Duck Pond in Fontana on Tuesday, September 18, and they ran in Jefferson on Tuesday, September 25. The runners continue to improve their times.

BIG There will an all cast practice on September 28, and there will be a singing and choreography day on September 29. Cast members are reminded that they will need to be off script by September 30.

COLLEGE FAIR Mrs. Bertling will be taking students to UW-Platteville on October 2 for the WEF College Fair from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Permission slips are

due to Mrs. Bertling by October 1.

MANUFACTURING DAY Mrs. Bertling will be taking students to a Manufacturing Day event at Blackhawk Technical College on October 4. The students will be given the opportunity to talk to employers in the manufacturing trade and see some of what local businesses have to offer. Permission slips are due to Mrs. Bertling by October 3rd.

STUDENT COUNCIL The homecoming dance last Saturday was a success because of all the hard work put in by the members. Student Council is preparing for Sweetest Day on October 20.

They will be selling pop to raise money for future projects.

PICTURE DAY Picture day will be held tomorrow, September 27. Be sure to send your payment with your children if you have not purchased pictures online.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT Since the final performance of “Africa,” the band has started to prepare for the upcoming Christmas concert on December 17.

MATH DEPARTMENT Within the next two weeks, the geometry course will begin their house design project using 3D software. This project has been moved up so students will have more time to work on their house designs.

MATH TEAM Students signed up last week to be on the high school math team.

These students will participate in the Platteville Math Meet to take place later in the fall. Meetings to practice for this meet will begin

taking place soon.

STEAM Starting this week, the engineering class and some select students will plan the high school STEAM project for the year. Check back for updates.

BIOLOGY II The Biology II class is thinking of ways to spread awareness of endangered species and getting the community involved. In the next couple of weeks, the students will be sharing facts and information about certain animals around the school in a variety of different ways. Be sure to look out for fundraisers at upcoming school events.

REC DISTRICT Rec District is sponsoring Zumba on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Juda School, and daycare is provided at no charge.

FFA On September 25, the FFA attended Food for America at Spring Grove Dairy. Several chapter members helped the Brodhead FFA teach elementary students about agriculture. That night members also attended the sectional leadership workshop. World Dairy Expo will be October 2 in Madison.

NHS This year the NHS is in charge of the school’s backpack program.

This program gives food to kids who may not receive healthy food at home. NHS also will be helping to stock the school’s new food pantry. The NHS is still in the process of electing this year’s officers and planning service projects.

Orfordville Board of Appeals discusses multiple variance requests

New and old business merged last Thursday before the Board of Appeals.

Board members discussed three variance requests.

Bob Dahl appeared for second time before the board to further discuss a request he submitted last month. Dahl’s request involved installing a four-foot fence in his front yard that would fall 15 feet from the center of the road. A current ordinance requires front yard fences to be 35 feet back from the center of the road.

Dahl provided the board with a copy of his Certified Survey Map showing property lines for 138 South Walnut Street. Clerk Sherri Waege provided an aerial photo from the Village Engineer, showing measurements for the proper vision triangle for the street intersection.

Dahl explained that based on the certified map, he is most likely not going to pursue the front yard fence due to only being able to build the fence 20 feet out from the front. No further action was taken by the board on this matter.

Kris and Deb Johnson had two separate variances brought before the board.

The property involved is located at 313 North Main Street. The first request is to be allowed to have a second garage.

Kris explained his hopes in building a second detached garage on his property. A current ordinance allows one detached garage and one attached garage.

Kris has an existing detached garage.

Kris explained that due to the set up of the existing garage, he is not able to attach the structure to his house. A motion by Terry Gerber was seconded by Jason Knox to grant the request to Kris for two detached garages.

A second request from the Johnson’s involved exceeding the square footage allowed for a detached garage. Kris wants to build a detached garage of 1,800 square feet. A current ordinance allows a detached garage as long as the

combination square footage of a detached garage with an accessory building does not exceed 30 percent of the rear yard or 936 square feet.

Kris explained he obtained a building permit for an accessory structure of 240 square feet, leaving 696 square feet for a detached garage. The new detached garage, as Kris explained, will be a pole shed building with gravel floor and sliding doors. He also explained that his back yard is 25,645 square feet, with 30 percent being 7,694 square feet.

Kris said he has a camper and tractors that he is planning to store in the new garage. A neighbor of Kris, Gerald Hexom, was present for the meeting and addressed how Kris would gain access to the new building. Kris explained that his plan was to use a cutout on the south side of his property, but does not plan on putting in a driveway. A village ordinance only allows one driveway per residential property.

Board member Gary Phillips said he is not in favor of a pole building in a back yard, regardless of the size. Phillips also reminded those present that the ordinance requires a building to be architecturally compatible with the principle building.

Gerber was in favor of granting the 1,800 square foot building. He believed that it would assist Kris in cleaning up the property.

Board members discussed what the definition of architecturally correct.

Phillips noted that the building inspector makes the decision when the permit is issued.

Juda’s 30th Annual Toy Show does not disappoint Next Generation 4-H Club held the 30th Annual Juda Toy Show at the Community Center/Fire Station in Juda on Sunday, Sept. 9. An estimated 300 people participated in the event this year.

This years featured tractor was a 1999 Case 930 tractor owned by Roger Green of Brodhead.

The event hosted over 100 tables of toys, crafts, honey, maple syrup, brown eggs, mums, pumpkins, and straw along with handmade wooden toys, quilts, doll clothing, and farm displays.

Vendors from Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota started arriving at 6 a.m. with the doors opening at 9 a.m.

The club had a food stand serving breakfast and lunch.

The Dan Meier Family sponsored the Kid’s Pedal Tractor Pull for ages 3-10.

Trophies were given to the three top pullers in each age group, however every youth was a winner. About 27 children participated in the event.

Two local businessesSubway and Dairy Queen of Monroe-donated free sandwich coupons and ice cream cone chips to all that participated.

The event also sponsored a tractor show.

A lineup of 18 tractors had a chance to win a trophy or cash prizes in four classes.

Make sure to mark your calendars and plan to attend next year’s Juda Toy Show on Sept. 8, 2019.

Obituaries

DOROTHY E. BLADORN Dorothy E. Bladorn, 88, died on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018 at Woods Crossing, Brodhead. She was born Feb. 1, 1930 in the Town of Spring Valley, the daughter of Frederick and Selma (Hain) Willing.

She graduated from Orfordville High School in 1947. Dorothy married Frederick Bladorn on Nov. 11, 1949 at Orfordville Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong member of Orfordville Lutheran Church belonging to the W.E.L.C.A and Mary Circle.

She retired from Seneca Foods of Janesville.

She is survived by her children: daughter, Nancy (Gordy) Buss of Brodhead; sons, Robert (Ellen) of Milwaukee, and Ronald (Debbie) of Janesville; grandchildren, Michelle (Jeremy) Bennett and Matthew Buss of Brodhead; step-granddaughters Leah (Pete) Graves and Felicia Osén; six great grandchildren; sister, Virginia Larson of Evansville; brother, Roger (Darlene) of Beloit and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred, deceased in March of 2012; and baby brother, Robert.

Funeral services were held at Orfordville Lutheran Church, 201 N Main St, Orfordville at Thursday, Sept.

20, 2018, with Pastor Andy Twiton officiating. A visitation was from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Thursday.

Burial was in Orfordville Lutheran Cemetery.

A special thanks to Woods Crossing for their excellent care and compassion.

GUSTAVE “GUS” E. BONIER Gustave “Gus” E. Bonier, 79, of Brodhead, passed away on Monday, Sept.

17, 2018, at his home. He was born on Oct. 30, 1938 in Beloit, the son of Gustav and Adelaide (Stowell) Bonier. He married Jean A. Wyss of Monroe on April 15, 1967.

Gus graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1956. He entered the U.S. Army in 1960 and was discharged in 1962. He worked for Flexicore of South Beloit, Ill. and later retired from Debco Corp. of Janesville, after working for them for 28 years.

Gus was one of the founders of the Brodhead Youth Ball Program. He coached Little League baseball for 12 years, taking his team to Sun Prairie for the championship. The Brodhead team and parents won the trophy for Best Sportsmanship. He was very proud of the team and the parents for their support.

Gus had many activities, but the most pleasurable was helping his children when they needed him. And they in turn were there for him when he needed them.

He is survived by his wife Jean of 51 years, and two children, Laurie (Randy) Sommerfeldt, and William “Bill” Bonier and his grandson, Braydon, (nicknamed Booker), all from Brodhead. He is further survived by his sister, Karen (Steve) Olson, Menomonee Falls, Wis. and her children, Mike (Marie) Lynch, Dan (Ana) Lynch, Tim (Lita) Lynch, Pat (Elizabeth) Lynch, Larry (Renee) Lynch, Kathy Lynch (Andy), and Cheryl Neuleib and their children; a sister-in-law, Karen R. Wyss, Monroe and her children, Angela Hellenbrand (Kenny Ramm), Dawn (Dale) Meier, Amy (Joe) Boland, Dana (Jeff) Felder, their children and many other relatives.

Wayne was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and RAMON L. HAGEDORN he was a member of the Elks Club.

Hawk’s Mill Winery hosts Green Cares fundraiser GREEN CARES PRESS RELEASE

Green Cares Food Pantry is holding its second annual fundraiser, “Sip, Savor, and Support The Green Cares Food Pantry”.

This event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hawk’s Mill Winery. Tickets to the event are $35 each. When buying three tickets, the fourth ticket is free. Tickets can be purchased online at https://greencaresfoodpantry.weebly.com/ and can be purchased at the event.

With your ticket purchase you receive eight Hawk’s Mill wine tastings (beer and non-alcoholic options are available), a wine glass, hors d’oeuvres, and door prizes. Raffles will take place during the event.

If you have yet to visit this winery, you are missing something very special. Located at W8170 Pilz Road, the winery provides a spectacular view of the Green County country-

side. The fall colors should be at peak during this event on Sept. 30.

Green Cares Food Pantry, located just outside of Monticello, is currently serving 250 to 300 Green County households each month with approximately one week’s worth of food.

Over 50 percent of the foods provided to households are donated items; foods purchased through the Second Harvest Food Bank make up the bulk of the remaining food.

Green Cares Food Pantry operates without any paid staff, so nearly 92 percent of your donation is going towards the purchase of food. The remaining 8 percent cover costs such as rent.

The pantry expanded its services to five area schools, creating weekend food programs for students who elect to receive this service. Partnerships were established among Green Cares Food Pantry, Second Harvest Food

Bank, and the School Districts of Albany, Black Hawk, Juda, Monticello, and New Glarus, with supplemental funding provided by the Monsignor Thomas Campion Charitable Fund.

The partnership allows the pantry to provide shelf-stable foods to these area schools. School staff provides

these foods to students, thus protecting the confidentiality of the student.

For those who cannot attend this event and wish to support the pantry and its school programs, donations can be made to Green Cares Food Pantry, and sent to the pantry at W5198 County Road C, Monti-

cello, Wis. For those who want their donation going to a specific school project, please note the name of the school in the memo line. Green Cares will honor your request.

Green Cares’ volunteers believe no one should be hungry –help us make that possible through your support.

Celebrate Family History Month with Preserving Family Treasures Program The Green County Genealogical Society is hosting a meeting with guest speaker Robin Carlson, Paper Conservator at the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Carlson is speaking on “Preserving Family Treasures.” Carlson teaches pragmatic ways to preserve a variety of family treasures including scrapbooks and digital photographs, as well as, inherited family heirlooms or collections.

The meeting is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, in the second floor meeting room

of the Monroe Public Library at 925 16th Avenue. Light refreshments are available 15 minutes before the meeting. Visitors are always welcome at our meetings and there is no cost to attend.

How do you feel about wind farms and wind energy? At the Sept.

11 Green County Board meeting, EDF Renewable Energy gave a presentation about a 24-turbine wind farm they are considering in Jefferson Township here in Green County, called the Sugar River Wind Project.

I have always been a supporter of renewable energy but there are still many questions to be answered and impacts to be considered.

EDF Renewable Energy’s presentation about the Sugar River Wind Project covered the benefits to Green County, the project overview, and the proposed schedule. The project has ended its feasibility stage and is in the development stage.

The notice of application for the Sugar River Wind Project is expected to be issued in October, and the application filed with Green County by the end of 2018. There were several questions posed by county board members at the end of the presentation, and more questions have been formed since.

GCDC Executive Leadership breakfast planned for Oct. 16 GCDC PRESS RELEASE

It started with a great idea. Tera Johnson wanted to claim some of the organic whey she saw being mixed in with nonorganic whey for animal feed and process it into powdered protein supplements for human consumption.

That was in 2007. The next year, she built a “green” plant in Reedsburg to process the organic whey. In 2010, her business, TerasWhey, was named the Innovator of the Year by Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. By 2013, TerasWhey was such a success; she sold it for $26 million. Since then, she’s turned her attention to helping other entrepreneurs grow food, beverage and value-added farm businesses and founded the Food Finance Institute (FFI) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Johnson, who hosts the Edible-Alpha podcast in addition to serving as FFI director, will be the guest speaker for the Green County Development Corporation’s Executive Leadership Breakfast planned for October 16. (Previously called the CEO Breakfast, GCDC is changing the name of the event to be more inclusive of Green County business leadership teams.)

The breakfast is held at Bailey’s Run Vineyard, N8523 Klitzke Road, New Glarus.

Also at the September County Board meeting was a presentation by Patrick Glenn of Carlson Dettman, the firm hired to conduct Green County’s Classification and Compensation Study.

The Personnel and Labor Relations Committee has discussion and possible action concerning the study results on the agenda at their next meeting, to be held Sep. 26 at 7 p.m.

This meeting takes place in the First Floor Conference Room at the Historic Courthouse on the square in Monroe and is open to the public. If you are interested in the agenda, or other meetings, information is listed on the county website at www.co.green.wi.gov.

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Review for the Town of Decatur, Green County, Wisconsin, shall hold its first meeting on October 4, 2018, at 6:00 PM.(for at least 2 hours), at the Decatur Town Hall, 1408 14th Street, Brodhead, WI. Please be advised of the following requirements to appear before the board of review and procedural requirements if appearing before the board: 1. No person will be allowed to appear before the board of review, to testify to the board by telephone, or to contest the amount of any assessment of real or personal property if the person has refused a reasonable written request by certified mail of the assessor to enter onto property to conduct an exterior view of such property being assessed.

2. After the first meeting of the board of review and before the board’s final adjournment, no person who is scheduled to appear before the board of review may contact or provide information to a member of the board about the person’s objection, except at a session of the board. Open book shall occur no less than 7 days prior to the board of review.

3. The board of review may not hear an objection to the amount or valuation of property unless, at least 48 hours before the board’s first scheduled meeting, the objector provides to the board’s clerk written or oral notice of an intent to file an objection, except that upon a showing of good cause and the submission of a written objection, the board shall waive that requirement during the first 2 hours of the board’s first scheduled meeting, and the board may waive that requirement up to the end of the 5th day of the session or up to the end of the final day of the session if the session is less than 5 days with proof of extraordinary circumstances for failure to meet the 48-hour notice requirement and failure to appear before the board of review during the first 2 hours of the first scheduled meeting.

4. Objections to the amount or valuation of property shall first be made in writing and filed with the clerk of the board of review within the first 2 hours of the board’s first scheduled meeting, except that, upon evidence of extraordinary circumstances, the board may waive that requirement up to the end of the 5th day of the session or up to the end of the final day of the session if the session is less than 5 days. The board may require objections to the amount or valuation of property to be submitted on forms approved by the Department of Revenue, and the board shall require that any forms include stated valuations of the property in question. Persons who own land and improvements to that land may object to the aggregate valuation of that land and improvements to that land, but no person who owns land and improvements to that land may object only to the valuation of that land or only to the valuation of improvements to that land. No person may be allowed in any action or proceedings to question the amount or valuation of property unless the written objection has been filed and that person in good faith presented evidence to the board in support of the objections and made full disclosure before the board, under oath, of all of that person’s property liable to assessment in the district and the value of that property. The requirement that objections be in writing may be waived by express action of the board.

5. When appearing before the board of review, the objecting person shall specify in writing the person’s estimate of the value of the land and of the improvements that are the subject of the person’s objection and specify the information that the person used to arrive at that estimate.

6. No person may appear before the board of review, testify to the board by telephone, or object to a valuation if that valuation was made by the assessor or the objector using the income method of valuation, unless no later than 7 days before the first meeting of the board of review the person supplies the assessor with all the information about income and expenses, as specified in the assessor’s manual under s. 73.03 (2a), Wis. stats., that the assessor requests. The Town of Decatur has an ordinance for the confidentiality of information about income and expenses that is provided to the assessor under this paragraph that provides exceptions for persons using information in the discharge of duties imposed by law or the duties of their officer or by order of a court. The information that is provided under this paragraph, unless a court determines before the first meeting of the board of review that it is inaccurate, is not subject to the right of inspection and copying under s. 19.35 (1), Wis. Stats.

7. The board shall hear upon oath, by telephone, all ill or disabled persons who present to the board a letter from a physician, surgeon, or osteopath that confirms their illness or disability. No other persons may testify by telephone unless the Board, in its discretion, has determined to grant a property owner’s or their representative’s request to testify under oath by telephone or written statement.

8. No person may appear before the board of review, testify to the board by telephone, or contest the amount of any assessment unless, at least 48 hours before the first meeting of the board, or at least 48 hours before the objection is heard if the objection is allowed under s.70.47 (3) (a), Wis. stats., that person provides to the clerk of the board of review notice as to whether the person will ask for the removal of a member of the board of review and, if so, which member, and provides a reasonable estimate of the length of time the hearing will take.

Orfordville Lutheran Church to celebrate 150 years

Lyle Amundson worked the last three years to organize and construct a book about the history of the Orfordville Lutheran Church. He managed to produce a detailed and interesting book just in time for the church’s 150th anniversary.

Amundson served several terms as President of the congregation and was on the cemetery board for over 20 years as a secretary treasurer. He is also a member of several historical societies.

When asked how and why he began to dig into the history of the church, Amundson said, “When you wanted to look at an early church record, whether it was a marriage, baptism, confirmation, the books are extremely fragile. I think some of the quality of ink, at certain times when they were recorded, has faded. I just thought it was in need. If we were going to keep those records; that we would need to digitize them.”

All of the church records, up through 1973, were put on the computer and out onto a computer disk. This allows the old record books to stay in their current condition and minimizes the risk of damaging them.

With the 150th anniversary coming up, Amundson worked to get as many biographies and autobiographies of former pastors from Orfordville Lutheran.

He was able to obtain a biography from every pastor that served the church. This includes 14 part time and 23 full time pastors.

Amundson explained that Orfordville Lutheran Church formed when the congregation of Luther Valley Church split in 1868. The split occurred as a result of different views on slavery.

Amunson said that Claus Magelssen’s great grandson is attending the 150th celebration next weekend. Claus Magelssen, deceased, was Orfordville Lutheran’s first pastor after the congregation split. He served as pastor for 24 years. Omenson said that being able to

visit with the members of previous pastors was quite interesting and enjoyable.

Lars Monsen Gimmestad served the church for 20 years beginning in 1918.

His grandson and sister are attending the celebration next weekend.

Amundson says his next project is to transfer records from 1974 through 2018 up to date and digitized.

Green County Sheriff’s report Sunday, Sept. 16 OWI At 3:25 a.m., deputies stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 1100 block of State Highway 69 in the city of Monroe.

Investigation resulted in Rory S. Privett, 25, of Brodhead being arrested for operating while under the influence (alcohol) 1st offense. Privett was also cited for operating with a prohibited alcohol concentration, speeding, and operating without a license 2nd offense within three years. Privett was released pending court.

Monday, Sept. 17 Warrant Arrest At 3:54 p.m., Steven M. K. Futch, 25, of Brodhead was arrested at the Green County Sheriff’s Office on a civil warrant that was issued by the Lafayette

County Sheriff’s Office. Futch was turned over to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Motor Vehicle Crash Personal Injury At 4:23 p.m., deputies along with Monroe Fire and Green County EMS were dispatched to the W6300 block County Highway B, Town of Clarno, for a three-vehicle crash with injuries.

Investigation revealed that an eastbound vehicle operated by Ruth E. Balsano, 55, of Monroe was stopped in traffic waiting to turn north.

Roseanna L. Hay, 36, of Monroe, was also stopped in traffic waiting behind Balsano. A third vehicle, operated

by Rex A. Ewald, 67, of Monroe, was eastbound and rear-ended Hay’s vehicle. Hay’s vehicle then collided with

Balsano’s vehicle.

A passenger in Balsano’s vehicle was identified as Melissa L. Anderson, 34, of Monroe. Both Balsano and Anderson were wearing seat belts. Both Balsano and Anderson were injured in the crash and were transported by EMS to the Monroe Emergency Room. The air bags did not deploy in Balsano’s vehicle. Balsano’s vehicle received minor damage and was removed from the scene.

Hay was wearing her seat belt and was injured in the crash. Hay was transported by EMS to the Monroe ER. The air bags did not deploy in the Hay’s vehicle. The vehicle received severe damage and was towed from the scene.

Ewald was not injured in the crash and was wearing his seat belt. The air

Tuesday, Sept. 18 Nothing newsworthy to report Wednesday, Sept. 19 Motor Vehicle Crash At 1:39 p.m., deputies responded to a crash in the W1100 block of Dunphy Road, Town of Albany.

Investigation revealed that David M. Schaaf, 83, of Janesville was eastbound when his vehicle left the road and struck the ditch. Schaaf was not injured and was wearing his seat belt. The air bags deployed in the vehicle. The vehicle had minor damage and was towed from the scene.

Thursday, Sept. 20 Motor Vehicle Crash At 7:24 a.m., deputies responded to a crash in the W2400 block State Highway 59, Town of Decatur.

Lynn R. Pendergrass, 44, of Monroe, was eastbound when she crested a hill and ran over a tree that had fallen on to the road. Pendergrass was not injured and was wearing her seat belt. There was no airbag deployment. The vehicle sustained functional undercarriage damage and was towed from the scene.

Motor Vehicle Crash At 4:17 p.m., deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 81 at County Highway N, Town of Monroe.

Investigation revealed that Shawna A. Fields, 39, of Darlington was westbound on State Highway 81 when she attempted to turn south on to County

Highway N. Matthew S. Wylie, 31, of Darlington was stopped on County Highway N, facing north, and attempted to turn west on to State Highway 81 when he collided with Fields’ vehicle.

Fields was wearing her seat belt and was not injured in the crash. The air bag did not deploy. Fields vehicle sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene. Fields was cited for operating a motor vehicle without proof of insurance and released pending court.

Wylie was not wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash. The air bags did not deploy. Wylie’s vehicle sustained minor damage and remained on scene. Wylie was cited for operating while suspended, failure to wear seat belt, operate a motor vehicle without insurance and failure to yield right of way.

Wylie was subsequently arrested for a Wisconsin Department of Corrections probation warrant and Possession of a Stimulant Drug. Wylie was jailed.

Friday, Sept. 21 Warrant Arrest At approximately 8:07 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Tara J. Farwell, 38, Freeport, Ill, in the W4500 block of State Highway 11 in the Town of Jefferson.

Investigation resulted in Farwell being arrested on an warrant issued through Winnebago County, Ill, for Failure to Appear. Farwell was incarcerated in the Green County Jail pending extradition to Illinois. Farwell was also cited for Speeding, Operate without a Valid License, and Driver Keep Open Intoxicants in Vehicle.
