Local team looks to spread awareness, prevention message about elder abuse Tuesday, June 15, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. On and around this day, communities in the United States and all over the world will sponsor events to highlight solutions to this problem. The Green County Elder Abuse Prevention I-Team

sponsors a coloring page contest for local fifththrough seventh-graders in the county to participate in this national conversation, as well as a T-shirt design contest through the Monroe High School. The Green County I-Team

also puts together a banner and pinwheel display outside of the Behring Senior Center in Monroe from mid-May through June 15 to bring awareness to the community regarding elder abuse. On June 12, team members will host a booth at the

Monroe Farmers Market on the Square with information, activities and prizes. Green County had 223 total cases of reported elder abuse or neglect in 2020, according to an Aging & Disability Resource Center news release. That is

one case reported every 1.6 days, or just over 3 percent of people ages 65 and up in Green County, who experienced some form of abuse or neglect in 2020. “We can and must create healthier and safer living environments for older adults,

including their homes, nursing homes and assisted living facilities,” the release said. For more information or to report a concern, call the Aging & Disability Resource Center at 800-514-0066 or go online to adrcscwwi.org.

Back on stage

Dancers with the Brodhead Dance Academy presented recitals for parents May 22 and May 23. Even though they were divided into smaller performance groups in front of smaller audiences, the dancers relished a chance to be back on stage after the disruption of the pandemic. Classes will continue this summer, with registration open now for the next full season. Go online to brodheaddance.com or find the academy on Facebook for more information.
