Shooting expert to present on ‘Scheutzenvereins of Green County’ The Zwingli Brotherhood will sponsor a free Powerpoint talk by Chris Pederson, of Eau Claire, on Saturday, July 9th. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Zwingli U.C.C. in Monticello.

The title of Pederson’s presentation is “Schuetzenvereins (Shooting Societies) of Green County”. Pederson is Vice President of the Eau Claire Schuetzenverein and a military historian. His interest in Germanic hunting and shooting traditions began upon reading about the Hannover Scheutzenfest (marksman’s festival) shortly after arriving in Germany in December of 2004, following a tour in Iraq.

In 2007, during a torch-lit ceremony, he was sworn into the German Brotherhood of Hunters after successfully completing the Jagdschein Course in Heidelberg, Germany. He is gathering material for a book on the Schuetzenvereins of Wisconsin.

The Schuetzen style of shooting is primarily done off

hand (most difficult position) at distances out to 200 yards, using precision, single-shot rifles. The Swiss considered Schuetzen as “Shooting like a man...standing on two legs.”

At one time, Green County had three Schuetzenvereins -- one each in Monroe, Monticello, and New Glarus.

These clubs were centers for social gatherings as well as shooting competitions. Pederson has gathered many facts and photos of the facilities, as well as the people, rifles they used, targets, and awards.

The public is encouraged to attend. This talk should be of interest for anyone who wants to know more about our Swiss Heritage, shooting sports, and local history.

Zwingli U.C.C. is located at 416 East Lake Avenue, in Monitcello and features air conditioning, padded pews, and two large viewing screens.

College, University Honors announced Rockford University Jessica Mohns of Orfordville was named a Distinguished Scholar for the spring 2016 semester, earning at least a 3.75 GPA with no grades below “C” and having completed all requirements for the semester: UW-River Falls To be named to the Dean’s List, a full-time undergraduate must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0, or midway between an “A” and “B” average.

The first request to raise base rates since 2010

Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin utility filed a request last month with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) to adjust electric and natural gas rates.

The request resulted from collaboration with the Citizens Utility Board and the Wisconsin Industrial Energy Group and must be approved by the PSCW to become effective.

It is Alliant Energy’s first request to increase retail electric and natural gas base rates since 2010.

The request is designed to cover the investments in Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin electric and natural gas systems, including: improvements in the environmental profile of Columbia Energy Center and Edgewa-

ter Generating Station; continued safety and reliability investments; and expansion of pipeline infrastructure for customers to take advantage of the low cost of natural gas.

The electric cost increases are offset in part by reductions in projected fuel costs for 2017, which are included in this filing.

Alliant Energy is requesting an increase in: electric revenues of 1.1 percent, or $12.9 million; and natural gas revenues of 12.9 percent, or $9.2 million (6 percent average bill impact).

Kriss Marion transplanted to Blanchardville from Chicago with her husband and four children 11 years ago. While working on several local vegetable farms, she started her own Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program nine years ago with five customers. Her membership grew to 165 families in Madison and Green County before she decided to reduce the membership to 25 and serve her members lavish on-farm dinners with their shares.

Marion has a background in newspaper journalism and in horticulture. She designed and installed urban yard gardens in Chicago before moving to the country. Everything she knows about gardening she learned from her green thumb parents -- both are active in their garden club back home in Pennsylvania. And everything she knows about farming she learned from her generous and patient neighbors.

Again, the revenue requirement included in this proposal resulted from collaboration with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB), Wisconsin Industrial Energy Group (WIEG) and PSCW Staff. As a result of this collaborative process, CUB, WIEG and PSCW Staff will not contest the stipulated revenue requirements.

The proposal contains the following provisions: increase in retail electric rates of $12.9 million through 2018; increase in natural gas base rates of $9.2 million through 2018; authorized return on equity (ROE) of 10 percent; continuation of the ROE sharing mechanism that has been in place since 2013; common equity component of regulatory capital structure of 52.23 percent in 2017 and 52.20 percent in 2018; proposed ATC and WPL reorganization consistent with PSC dockets 137-BE-100 and 6680-AU118; proposed change to depreciation rates; retail electric and gas rate base of $3.0 billion in 2017 and $3.1 billion in 2018; escrow treatment of transmission charges; use of transmission escrow and continued use of the conservation escrow to offset base rate cost increases; and allowance for Funds Used During Construction (AFUDC) treatment for 100 percent of the Riverside Energy Center Expansion.

Anyone interested in learning about healthy watersheds is invited to spend a few hours near Spring Creek on Friday, June 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 11.

Attendees will join experts from the Lower Sugar River Watershed Association (LSRWA), the Green County Land and Water Conservation Department (GCLW), and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) as we spend the morning exploring the Spring Creek watershed, one of 13 tributary basins in the Lower Sugar River Basin. We will be looking closely at Oakley Branch, a smaller tributary stream, as well as the main branch of Spring Creek for the overall health of the two systems and what fish and invertebrate populations they support.

LSRWA volunteers will demonstrate the Water Action Volunteer monitoring protocols for measuring stream health, including netsampling of invertebrates (aquatic insects) and evaluation of water clarity and other stream conditions.

Under the proposal, a typical electric residential customer using 700 kwh/month would see a phased-in increase of 4.7 percent, or $4.39/month by 2018. The bill impact includes a gradual increase in the fixed charge, currently $7.67, to $12 in 2017 and $18 in 2018.

Alliant Energy’s residential fixed charge has been in the $5-$8 range since 1995. Commercial and industrial rates would decrease slightly.

New pricing plan options are also being proposed to offer more customer choice: Nights and Weekends, ideal for those who can limit daytime weekday use, and Fixed Bill, which gives residential customers a set bill amount for 12 months with no true-up. The green energy option, Second Nature, would also be offered at a lower cost, dropping from $.02/kwh to $.014/kwh.

A residential natural gas customer using 772 therms/year would see an increase of 7.6 percent, or $3.47/ month by 2018. These rates, if approved, would still be lower than 2010 levels.

The PSCW review is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016. These rates, if approved, would become effective Jan. 1, 2017, and extend until the end of 2018. Alliant Energy will file its

Albany FFA holds annual spring banquet The Albany FFA Chapter held its 85th annual banquet on Tuesday, March 29.

The ceremony included the induction of the new 2016-2017 officers and the presentation of the year’s awards.

Jason Roth, the state Vice-President from Section 5 and the banquet’s guest speaker, gave a meaningful speech about finding personal strengths and using them to one’s advantage.

The banquet was a huge success, thanks to all of the FFA’s supporters.

Albany fishing competition a success The weather was wonderful for Hooked on Fishing at Albany Legion Park Saturday, June 4. Children fished to compete for a variety of outdoor prizes from fishing poles and

tackle boxes to a football and slipand-slide. The largest prizes were gift certificates to Gabreilla’s and the Sugar River General Store.

Children fished anywhere along the Sugar River. Favorite spots included the Brodhead dam, the golf course, the EE bridge, and the Albany dam, according to Suzi Gould, who was in charge of the event.

Any fish the children caught were due back by 12:30 p.m. for weighing and measuring. The fish needed to be within the legal size limit to be kept.

Over the course of the event, children caught a variety of fish includig bass, suckers, carp, catfish, and others.

At the end of the day, winners were announced. For the biggest carp, Jeb Letcher was awarded. Ciara Letcher caught the most carp, and McKenna Broughton caught the heaviest fish.

The event has been going on for around 21 years, according to Gould.

At first, Youth Futures led it, and it was called Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs. Then, the Albany Community Center took it over, and their ultimate goal is simply to get kids outside.

Attorneys to rally farmers against Syngenta Ag

Byrne, Cramer named award recipients Derrick Byrne and Kelsey Cramer are this year’s recipients of the Class of 1967-We Remember Our Nine Angels Scholarship. Byrne and Cramer received their $800 awards at the Juda High School in May. The Nine Angels Scholarship was established in 2010 by the surviving classmates of the nine young

ladies who died on their senior class trip. The scholarship is designed to be perpetual and to help assure that the nine girls are never forgotten.

The girls died when a Douglas DC-8 on a training flight at the New Orleans International Airport crashed into the Hilton Hotel where they were staying while on their senior class trip on March 30, 1967.

Foreign landowners notification required Teresa R. Zimmer, County Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency, informs foreign investors who buy, sell, or hold a direct or indirect interest in agricultural lands in the United States that they are required under the agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act to report their holdings and transactions to the United States Secretary of Agriculture.

The Agricultural Foreign Investment Act became effective on Feb. 2, 1979, and requires any foreign person who acquires or transfers any interest other than a security interest in agricultural land to report the transaction to FSA within 90 days of the sale or purchase.

The Secretary of Agriculture designated the Farm Service Agency to collect the reports, which are to be submitted on

form FSA-153, Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act Report. The completed form must be filed at the FSA county office where the land is located.

“Failure to submit an accurate or timely FSA-153 could result in civil penalties of up to 25 percent of the fair market value of the property,” said Zimmer.

County government offices, bankers, realtors, attorneys, and others involved in real estate transactions are encouraged to notify foreign investors of these reporting requirements. It is the foreign landowner’s responsibility to report the land transaction.

On Friday, June 17, an attorney with the Midwest Corn Lawsuit will hold a meeting in Green County to speak with corn farmers about a lawsuit against Syngenta Ag. According to the lawsuit’s website, Syngenta Ag. is responsible for a drastic fall in corn prices due to a genetically engineered corn trait Syngenta Ag. marketed and sold in 2009.

This corn trait, Viptera, was introduced to corn farmers prior to Syngenta’s receiving import approval from China. As a result, China rejected corn imports from the United States in 2013 and 2014. Corn prices plummeted.

According to the website, “Farmers, shippers, ex-

porters, and other workers have had their income impacted by the effects of the corn market’s decline. Still others have directly lost income based on China’s rejection of U.S. corn. Manufacturers of other corn products, such as corn syrup, which have also been rejected from China, may be eligible as well. All parties suffering financial losses may be entitled to compensation.”

The June 17 meeting will be held at the Brodhead Memorial Public Library from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30.

A couple of weeks ago, I was looking out the living room window and saw the two Sand Hill Cranes who have two chicks out in the backyard near the pond. They were grazing, just plodding along with the two chicks in tow. The portion of the backyard where they were is a pasture with mature trees; the near portion of the backyard is a hayfield, and there is an old fence line along which we do not mow.

The grass and other assorted vegetation (a nice term for weeds) has grown fairly tall.

I noticed a yellow and white cat walking on the near side of the old fence line, and immediately, one of the cranes left the group to walk along the weedy fence line, stretching its need to keep a close eye on the cat. The other crane continued eating with the chicks for a while.

When the cat started to move, what I believed to be the male crane walked slowly along the fence line on the other side, and Mom and the chicks made their way back to the pond. When they safely reached

their home base by the pond, the dad lifted his wings and flew back to be with his family.

A few weeks ago, we in the Lutheran tradition celebrated Trinity Sunday, which is really a day to think about God and the many ways in which we are blessed in our lives. This active, creative, protective, loving God, who has made us, is so present in our lives that it takes three descriptive methods to care for us.

When the world and the people in it were at risk, God sent his son.

He took the human form and died on a cross so that sin and brokenness need not keep us from our Father. He sent the Holy Spirit so that we are sensitive, gifted, and able to care for others and able to share with them the story of this God. The cranes are still frequent visits to our backyard, and the little ones now have longer legs and bigger bodies. I know that the parents will be ever-so-diligent in teaching them and watching over them. And if necessary, the parents will give their lives for their children.

If I had not taken a moment to simply sit and watch, I would have

missed the drama that was playing out before me. I may not have had the connecting thought of how God does very much the same for us.

It was, I believe, a Sabbath moment – a time to stop from the busyness of life and reflect on the very meaning and purpose of it.

Historical Society meeting scheduled for June 21

The Albany Historical Society will be ending their spring meetings on Tuesday, June 21st at 7 p.m. at the Albany Historical Museum.

In preparation for the summer months, when the Society does not meet, this meeting will be a celebration including “Show and Tell.”

Each member is asked to bring any item he or she may have and wishes to share. Items that are unusual, interesting, or strange looking are good choices. Items that are closely connected to particular stories are of interest, as well.

This meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The Albany Historical Society is open all year on Saturdays. Summer hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Labor Day. Meetings will resume in September with Jerry Apps presenting on his book about barns. His presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20th and will be co-hosted by the Albertson Memorial Library, where the event will take place.

Membership for the Historical Society is open to anyone. Dues are $5 per adult; a family membership costs $8 annually. A patron membership costs $25 annually, and lifetime membership costs $50.

The Albany Historical Society was established in January of 1992 and now has two buildings on Water Street in Albany.

Fields all over Wisconsin are starting to turn red with fresh, juicy, delicious, homegrown strawberries.

Strawberry season is only here for a short two to three weeks during the month of June and early July. The start of the season varies from farm to farm depending on a number of factors.

Some factors may include the varieties that are grown, the location of the farm in the state, and of course, the weather.

Because of these factors, your local grower might be just starting to see ripe berries, and other growers might already be at the market.

Dear Editor, Democracy is making progress.

Following the disastrous Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2010, U.S. citizens recognized democracy was under threat. These citizens mobilized local efforts nationwide to take back democracy from “Big Money.” Since then, sixteen state legislatures have passed resolutions calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

In Wisconsin, these local nonpartisan grassroots efforts started April 5, 2011, with referendums in Madison and Dane County, which passed by margins of 84% and 78%, respectively. Since then, these volunteers have spearheaded 77 local Resolutions and Referendums, involving 44% of Wis-

Members of Dave Luety’s Independent Study and Construction and Woods classes built a brat stand to be used by community members at the local Farmer’s Market.

Luety explained that someone on the Farmer’s Market committee asked the village board about having a stand for the weekly brat sales. Board member Gary Phillips got approval from the village for the stand and contacted Luety about the possibility of having some of his students build one.

They added that it was fun seeing it develop from a pile of wood to a complete structure. This project gave students exposure to what it means to work as a team to accomplish a goal. It gave them more respect for people who build things.

Four other students who put in a lot of time on the brat stand were Ryan Miller, Grant Carroll, Riley Carroll, and Sam Nelson.

Luety said that he hopes to do some kind of community project each year. He said it wasn’t just construction that the students learned, but they also learned about giving up your time and effort to benefit the community.

On Saturday, June 11 at 2:39 p.m., an adult female resident of Footville called the Rock County Communications Center following a disturbance in which 21-year-old Jason O. Graham threatened use of a handgun. Deputies responded to the Gilbert Street address and verified that Graham was alone, armed, and unwilling to exit the residence.

As a result, Rock County SWAT was activated, along with Janesville Police SWAT. Additional responders included Orfordville EMS, Mercy MD-1, and Rock County Sheriff Negotiators.

Prior to the arrival of SWAT personnel, deputies, with assistance from the Rock County Communications Center, provided safety notifications to residents nearby.

Michael Netzel receives Max Fox Award Michael Netzel, MD, was recognized for his 17 years of dedication to nurturing the next generation of physicians as the director of the rural preceptorship at the Monroe Clinic. Netzel received the Max Fox Award, which was given by the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association and UW School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Brian Crouse, Dr. Paul Hunter, and Dr. Robert Golden from the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association presented Netzel with the award on Monday, May 23rd at Turner Hall in Monroe. Since 1970, the association has presented the annual award to a Wisconsin physician who excels as a physician mentor.

“Dr. Netzel’s dedication to Monroe Clinic’s preceptor program has helped to develop the next generation of physicians,” Lori Rodefeld, Monroe Clinic Residency Coordinator, said. “Without his willingness to take the lead, medical students may not have had the opportunity to experience rural medicine.”

The Max Fox Award was founded in 1969 by Dr. Herman H. Shapiro, one of Fox’s preceptees, in honor of his mentor. Fox greatly influenced the careers of around 4,000 physicians in his 46 years of service. It was his passion for teaching that made him such an influential preceptor at the University of Wisconsin (UW) for over 25 years.

The Max Fox Award is intended to honor those physicians who provide excellent service as a preceptor.

During year IV of the Medical Doctor program at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, students are required to participate in a preceptorship. During their preceptorship, students develop a greater value of patient and community healthcare through hands-on experience. Netzel mentors students onsite at Monroe Clinic, which allows for a smaller atmosphere focusing

on personalized patient care.

Monroe Clinic was one of the first sites of the rural preceptorship program started in 1949, and over 500 medical students have utilized the opportunity that Monroe Clinic provides.

For over 20 years, Dr Netzel has specialized in Allergy, Asthma, and Pulmonary Medicine, and Sleep Medicine at Monroe Clinic. He treats patients of all ages, focusing on both lower and upper respiratory issues. Netzel attended medical school and did his residency at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb. “Dr. Netzel’s impact goes beyond educating future doctors; it extends to our patients and our community for generations to come,” Rodefeld said.

INFORMATION FOR WISCONSIN CORN FARMERS In 2009 Syngenta released a new strain of corn seed into the United States market before receiving import approval from China. Without import approval, China rejected U.S. corn shipments in 2013 and 2014, causing a global collapse in corn prices. Any corn farmer, regardless of whether or not they planted Viptera or other Syngenta seed was impacted.

Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune sys- Radioactive Contaminants tems disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by cryptosporidium and other microbial contaminants are available from the Environmental Protection Agency’s safe drinking water hotline (800-426-4791).

Educational Information The sources of drinking water, both tap water and bottled water, include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs and wells. As water travels over the surface of the land or through the ground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and, in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick up substances resulting from the presence of animals or from human activity.

Contaminants that may be present in source water include: • Microbial contaminants, such as viruses and bacteria, which may come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations and wildlife.

• Inorganic contaminants, such as salts and metals, which can be naturally- occurring or result from urban stormwater runoff, industrial or domestic wastewater discharges, oil and gas production, mining or farming.

• Pesticides and herbicides, which may come from a variety of sources such as agriculture, urban stormwater runoff and residential uses.

• Organic chemical contaminants, including synthetic and volatile organic chemicals, which are by-products of industrial processes and petroleum production, and can also come from gas stations, urban stormwater runoff and septic systems.

• Radioactive contaminants, which can be naturally occurring or be the result of oil and gas production and mining activities.

In order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes regulations that limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water systems. FDA regulations establish limits for contaminants in bottled water, which shall provide the same protection for public health.

Definitions Term Definition AL Action Level: The concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements which a water system must follow.

MCL Maximum Contaminant Level: The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology.

MCLG Maximum Contaminant Level Goal: The level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety.

MFL million fibers per liter MRDL Maximum residual disinfectant level: The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants.

MRDLG Maximum residual disinfectant level goal: The level of a drinking water disinfectant below which there is no known or expected risk to health. Detected Contaminants Your water was tested for many contaminants last year. We are allowed to monitor for some contaminants less frequently than once a year. The following tables list only those contaminants which were detected in your water. If a contaminant was detected last year, it will appear in the following tables without a sample date. If the contaminant was not monitored last year, but was detected within the last 5 years, it will appear in the tables below along with the sample date.

Inorganic Contaminants

Additional Health Information If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. Brodhead Waterworks is responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components. When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

Other Compliance Monitoring and Reporting Violations

We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water meets health standards. During the compliance period noted in the above table, we did not complete all monitoring or testing for the contaminant(s) noted, and therefore cannot be sure of the quality of your drinking water during that time.

Actions Taken Sample was taken at a previously approved location which was not the required sample site location for last year. None of population was at risk and no alternate water supplies were needed. Testing must be done from July 1st to September 30 - Water & Light will be taking the sample the first week of July 2016.

Green County Sheriff’s Report All charges reported here are merely accusations. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Sheriff’s deputies reported the following incidents occurred.

Saturday, June 4 Hit and Run At 8:55 p.m., deputies responded to the West 700 block of Golf Course Road in the Town of Decatur for a report of a hit-and-run crash. An investigation revealed that an older style car, dark in color, had backed into an unoccupied truck in a parking lot area off of Golf Course Road and then left the scene. The truck that was struck sustained very minor damage. Anyone with information on the case can contact the sheriff’s office at 608-328-9400.

Sunday, June 5 Traffic Crime At 12:15 a.m., deputies stopped Naneek T. Jamison, 25, of Milwaukee, for speeding on State Highway 11 at Cadiz Springs Road in the Town of Cadiz. Jamison was cited for Speeding and Driving with a Revoked Driver›s License. Jamison was released pending court.

OWI At 2:26 a.m., deputies observed a pick-up truck performing a “burn out” in front of Trailside Inn in Browntown. The truck then proceeded to slide through the intersection and stopped in the grass/shoulder west of the intersection. The driver, Ryan D. Komprood, 34, of Darlington, was arrested for Oper-

ating while under the Influence and was cited for Failure to Maintain Control and Open Intoxicants. A passenger, Mitchell L. Thompson, 29, of Darlington, was cited for Open Intoxicants. Both were released pending court.

No Valid Driver’s License At 8:37 p.m., deputies cited Martin O. Hernandez, 23, of Monroe, for Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Driver’s License. Hernandez was released pending court.

Monday, June 6 Domestic Abuse At 12:07 a.m., deputies investigated a Domestic Abuse incident on Twin Grove Road in the Town of Jefferson. The suspect, identified as Jason L. Strothman, 40, of Juda, was not located until 12:34 p.m. in the City of Monroe. Strothman was arrested on charges of Disorderly Conduct, Battery, Criminal Damage to Property, and Violation of Bond. Strothman was jailed pending bond or court.

Warrant At 10:52 p.m., deputies arrested Thomas W. M. Cozzens, 19, of Monticello, at a business in the Village of Monticello. Cozzens was arrested on Green County warrants for Felony - False Imprisonment, Intimidation of a Victim, and Disorderly Conduct. Cozzens was jailed pending court.

Tuesday, June 7 Traffic Arrest At 5:19 p.m., deputies cited Felipe Moreno Maguellal, 53, of Beloit, for Operating without a Valid Driver’s License in the West 400

Wednesday, June 8 Motor Vehicle Crash At 2:28 p.m., deputies responded to the West 1500 block of County Highway F in the Town of Decatur for a vehicle accident with injuries. Karrissa S. Porterfield, 26, of Brodhead, stated that she was eastbound on County Highway F when she slowed down due to a vehicle that had passed her at a high speed. While slowing down, Porterfield entered the south ditch, where her vehicle struck an embankment and proceeded to overturn onto its right side. The vehicle came to a rest on its tires in the south ditch. Porterfield reported injuries but declined EMS. Porterfield was wearing her seatbelt, the airbags did not deploy, and the vehicle sustained severe damage. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Porterfield stated the vehicle that had passed her was a larger, maroon pick-up truck, which left the scene and was not located.

Friday, June 10 Crash/OWI At 11:56 p.m., deputies responded to County Highway M and Hale Road in the Town of Cadiz for a motor vehicle crash. Gerald J. Benish, 50, of Mineral Point, was southbound on County Highway M and failed to negotiate the corner. The vehicle entered the east ditch line and struck an embankment. Benish reported wearing his seatbelt and was uninjured. There was no airbag deployment, and the vehicle

sustained minor front-end damage. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Benish was arrested for OWI, First Offense (alcohol). Benish was cited for Operating with a Prohibited Alcohol Concentration and Failure to Keep Vehicle Under Control. Benish was released pending court.

Probation Warrant At 11:39 a.m., Dennis M. Warner, 69, of Madison, was taken into custody on a probation violation warrant at the Green County Justice Center. Warner was jailed.

Warrant At 6:57 p.m., deputies arrested Matthew J. Naber, 30, of Juda, at a residence on Hartwig Road in the Town of Sylvester on a Walworth County warrant. Naber was jailed pending transport to Walworth County.

Crash/OWI At 12:01 a.m., deputies were called to the North 2400 block of County Highway T in the Town of Spring Grove for a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Matthew D. Olsen, 31, of Brodhead, was southbound when his vehicle entered the west ditch and overturned several times. Olsen was injured in the crash and was transported to an area hospital by EMS. Olsen reported wearing his seatbelt. There was no air bag deployment. There was severe damage to the vehicle, and it was towed from the scene.

Olsen was arrested for OWI-First Offense (alcohol) and was cited for Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle and Open Intoxicants in a Mo-

tor Vehicle as a Driver. Olsen was released pending court. The Brodhead Police Department assisted at the scene.

Motor Vehicle Crash At 11:35 a.m., deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash in the West 6500 block of Bethel Road in the Town of Clarno. Gary E. Raisbeck, 48, of Monroe, was operating a truck pulling a trailer. A pick-up truck was parked on the trailer and fell off of the trailer as the truck was eastbound on County Highway B. The truck that was being operated at the time of the crash did not have any damage to it. The trailer had minor damage. The pick-up truck that was being hauled had severe damage. Raisbeck reported wearing his seatbelt, and the air bags did not deploy. Raisbeck was not injured in the crash. The truck and trailer were driven from the scene. The case remains under investigation.

OWI At 7:28 p.m., deputies stopped a vehicle in the West 1300 block of State Highway 59 in the Town of Albany. An investigation resulted in Alexander N. Jerosch, 22, of Madison, being arrested for OWI – First Offense (drug and alcohol).

Jerosch was also cited for Operating after Suspension. Jerosch was released pending court.

A passenger in the vehicle, Cheyanna M. Weijola-Rhode, 20, of Monona, was arrested for Possession of THC, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Obstructing. She was released after bond was posted.
