Roth previews May County Board meeting

At the writing of this, the Green County Board meeting is coming up; at the reading of this, the meeting will have already taken place.

The time of the meeting has been changed this month to begin at 7:30 p.m. instead of the usual 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday May 8.

At the meeting the County Board will be presented with the recommendations from the Livestock Facility Study Group. This group has been meeting for about nine months, since the county passed a moratorium on CAFO applications, studying the effects of CAFOs. The study group has compiled their findings, synthesized a report, and is making recommendations to

the Green County Board designed to protect groundwater, surface water, public health and safety, and air quality based on their research.

The report was mailed to the supervisors on April 19 so there was plenty of time to review it so discussion and possible action can be taken at the County Board meeting.

If the Board adopts it, the recommendations will go to the appropriate departments and committees for further exploration and possible implementation. The board will also be considering extending the CAFO moratorium at this time. An extension would be helpful to give the county time to implement any changes that may be taking place.

Since the election of the current board in April and the assignment of supervisors to committees, most of the committees are meeting right now.

They need to elect the chairs and vice-chairs of the committees, and

conduct business. If you are interested in attending any committee meetings you can find the meeting times and agendas on the Green County website. All meetings are open and the public is welcome.

Public input is usually most beneficial at the committee level. Please check out when committees are meeting at www.co.green.wi.gov.

PASTOR, BETHLEHEM LUTHERAN CHURCH

As I write this, I am preparing for and looking forward to the annual assembly of our synod. This is a gathering of members from Lutheran (ELCA) congregations across south-central Wisconsin. There are 65 synods in our denomination (US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands). In a practical sense, these synods are how our institution organizes itself, shares resources, and by which it determines directions and leadership for ministry.

That term, synod, has a meaning for us beyond practical institutional organization, however. It is borrowed from the Greek language, and when broken down into its two root words (syn+odos) it translates literally, with+way. It means coming together, walking the way with one another. The word serves as a constant reminder for our church that we are always on this path together. We are in mission together.

Like the disciples and apostles in the gospel stories, we are sent into this world with one another. Jesus never intends for us to walk the journey of faith, hope, love, and justice on our own. We make our way into the

fullness of God’s reign with our sisters and brothers, as communities together.

I feel I can safely say that every church holds to this idea, even if they don’t organize as “synods.”

There are certainly a variety of institutional models and terms (like conference and diocese), but the same basic principal is at work; people of faith coming together to determine with one another the way to serve the gospel as a church in a particular place and time, with a particular theological witness. Even congregations that organize independently will often share ministry with others through fellowships, associations, missionary partners, etc.

If you belong to a congregation and haven’t yet given this much thought, take some time this week to learn about ways your church is walking with others, sharing resources for ministry, and providing mutual support in your journey together. Perhaps there are opportunities for you to participate in the work of that “larger” church.

If you do not belong to a congregation, I hope you know and recognize that you are not alone. While you may not find your place in a local congregation, you have been

called by God into a community of believers and I encourage you to find and connect with those whom God has put into your life for the purpose of walking the way together. You needn’t go it alone. (And take this also as an invitation from all of our churches to join us some Sunday – there’s always a place for you with us.)

Jesus may not have intended for us to be organized in the institutions that comprise the modern church (we all know there are more than enough problems with each of those!) but he did intend that we walk together with each other. Contrary to the way we often talk about it, faith is not personal. It is not a solitary pursuit or individual spiritual quest. Faith – and particularly, the Christian faith – is communal. It means to draw us together, to share with one another, and to support one another in our journey towards God’s future and in our mission of blessing the world with God’s justice and joy.

I am grateful for the partners that have walked with me, for the people of faith with whom I am blessed to share ministry, and for all of you who bear witness to God’s love in our place and time. Keep walking in the way, friends.

Albany students learning engineering concepts

Students in Mr. Bakken’s seventh and eighth grade science classes are busy designing towers as part of their engineering unit this quarter.

The students were given the task of designing and constructing a balsa wood tower that can hold at least 20 pounds.

The students did some research on design ideas and tested a few options before deciding on their final design. The students will add weight to the top of their towers to see how much it can hold. There will be a prize for the tower that can hold the most weight.

Albany students learning joys of reading Students at Albany Elementary School have had the opportunity to earn tickets and coupons for several events and restaurants this year simply by reading.

From October through March, students who met their teacher’s goal for reading earned a coupon for a free personal pan pizza in Pizza Hut’s Book-It program.

About seventy children from 4K through fifth grade have participated this year with twenty-nine earning free pizzas in each of the six months.

Six Flags offers children from kindergarten through sixth grade a free ticket to Six Flags Great America if they read six hours through January and February.

Thirty-five students at our school participated and earned their free ticket good for any day in the month

of June.

On Feb. 23, Maynard G. Mallard, mascot for the Madison Mallards, came to our school to kick off his Lil’ Ducks Reading program. Throughout the month of March, our students had an opportunity to earn two free tickets to a Madison Mallards baseball game by reading for ten minutes every day.

Thirty-six students met our goal and earned two free tickets to the June 3rd game. In all, almost 100 Albany fans will attend the game. That’s quite a cheering section!

Congratulations to all of the students who have participated in one or all of our reading incentive programs throughout the school year. The Brodhead School Board is seeking a community volunteer to serve on its Finance Committee.

The Finance Committee is a standing committee of the Board, and provides guidance and oversight to budgeting procedures. Committee membership currently includes three Board members, the Superintendent of schools, the District Comptroller and a community volunteer.

The Board is seeking to add a second community volunteer to serve on this Committee. It is hoped that the community representative will bring some experience in public sector finance or other financial experience.

Individuals interested in serving in this position should submit a short letter of interest, providing an overview of their qualifications for the appointment. The letter of interest should be submitted to the District Office no later than 3 p.m.on Friday, May 18.

Time commitment for this appointment will include a monthly meeting prior to the Board meeting each second Wednesday of the month. This monthly meeting begins at 6:15 P.M. and ends prior to the 7:00 P.M. Board meeting. Finance Committee members are encouraged, but not required, to stay for the Board meeting. Occasionally the Committee will meet earlier, to provide additional time for budget work. Additional meetings may be scheduled by the Committee as needed. Term of appointment will run for two years, concurrent with School Board Committee appointments (typically May to April).

WFU expresses sympathy to farmers dropped by Arla Wisconsin Farmers Union issued the following statement in response to more Wisconsin farmers receiving termination notices from their processor this week.

Wisconsin Farmers Union wishes to express heartfelt sympathy for all Wisconsin dairy farmers who received termination notices from their processor this week. “As part of a three-generation dairy farm myself, I know what the cows, the land, and the way of life mean to my family. I sincerely hope that all affected farmers will be able to find a new buyer for their milk,” said Darin Von Ruden, president of Wisconsin Farmers Union.

Von Ruden went on to express frustration that dairy farmers have been placed in this circumstance.

“This situation is not normal, and it is not necessary. This is the result of

a failed government policy that incentivizes overproduction, and then leaves farmers to weather the fallout alone – being picked off one by one.

Congress had the opportunity in the 2014 Farm Bill to prevent this train wreck, by passing the Margin Protection Program with the Market Stabilization feature left intact. Instead, members of Congress deliberately voted for the Goodlatte-Scott Amendment that removed Market Stabilization at the 11th hour, at the urging of organizations like the International Dairy Foods Association and the Dairy Business Association.”

Wisconsin Farmers Union urges Congress not to pass any Farm Bill that does not include a system of oversupply management. “We owe it to dairy farmers and to taxpayers to make this common-sense

Von Ruden’s comments come on the heels of a series of meetings held throughout Wisconsin about the Canadian supply management system that garnered intense interest among dairy farmers. Von Ruden recalled a comment by Canadian dairy farmer Murray Sherk at one of those meetings. Sherk said, “A situation where farmers just get dropped from their milk processor would never happen in Canada. Every dairy farmer would take a half percent or one percent cut to account for the loss of a market. No group of farmers would be singled out to shoulder the burden for everyone else.”

WFU is particularly troubled that Arla, which internationally is a cooperative, sent termination notices to Wisconsin farmers this week. It appears that U.S. farmers who ship to Arla are not full members of the cooperative like their European counterparts. “Cooperatives exist to work in the best interests of their members, and a core cooperative principle is equal treatment of all members. It seems that these farmers were not co-op members and therefore did not benefit from those principles,” said Von Ruden.

Von Ruden urged all dairy cooperative members to bring forward resolutions demanding that any adjustments in co-op milk supply be

borne by all members equally, rather than just a few – or worse, actually allow some members to expand, while others are cut off.

Farmers Union also urges all coop members to bring forward resolutions at their cooperatives in favor of a nationwide supply management program. A resolution template can be found at the newly launched www.DairyTogether.com.

Cooperatives finding themselves with an oversupply of milk should consider implementing a “base-excess” program to discourage overproduction that drives down profits for all members. Cooperatives such as Land O’Lakes, Prairie Farms, Family Dairies USA, Scenic Central, and several regional boards of Dairy Farmers of America have already implemented such programs.

“If we want to see incomes for farmers increase, we will still need a nationwide program that applies to everyone,” said Von Ruden. “But in the meantime, cooperatives should at least be doing what they can to prevent the price to their patrons from decreasing – or worse, directly putting a handful of their patrons out of business.”

Finally, WFU encourages all dairy farmers, whether shipping to a private buyer or to a cooperative, to demand a minimum of 90 days notice of any termination. A mod-

SOFTBALL On Thursday, April 26, the Panthers played Benton-Shullsburg.

The ending score was 14-1. Friday they played Orangeville. It was an exciting game. They won 3-2. On Monday, April 30, Juda-Albany played Barneveld, one of their biggest competitors. It was a pitching duel the entire game. Juda ended up winning 1-0. The double header on the 1st of May was against Monticello. The first game’s score was 21-4 and the second was 12-1. The Panthers won both. The game on April 3 was canceled due to rain.

TRACK On Saturday, April 28, the varsity team participated at the Palmyra-Eagle Invite. On Tuesday, May 1, the freshmen participated in Clinton. The next meet is conference and will be held on Saturday, May 12, at Jefferson.

BASEBALL After a slew of games in the past week, the boys will be entering the final stretch of the season.

On April 26 they lost a hard-fought

battle to Edgerton 3-4 on a walkoff sacrifice fly. The attack was led by an outstanding performance by Quinton Kammerer on the mound.

On April 28, they traveled to Monroe and split a doubleheader. They won the first 17-5, but the bats fell silent the next game, which explained the 9-2 loss. Jacob Miller joined the hitting slaughter in the first game going 3-4 with 3 RBI including a triple. Despite the silent bats, Kammerer’s bat had some life going 2-3. Jefferson showed why they’re ranked in the state by defeating the Cardinals 12-2 and 10-4 in a doubleheader on May 1. Almanzo finished the day 3-5 with an RBI and a double. Miller reached base multiple times thanks to 3 hit-by-pitches. On May 2, the boys finished a rain-delayed game; unfortunately, they lost 2-1 on a walk-off single. Yesterday, the boys played Evansville and will play them once more tomorrow. A doubleheader at Big Foot will be played on May 12.

BRODHEAD JUDA CHEERLEADING Tryouts for the Brodhead-Juda cheerleading squad will be held on Thursday, May 17, from 3:30 to 5:00 at Brodhead High School.

JUDA HILL CLIMB Up and coming is this year’s Juda Hill Climb, which is being organized by Spanish Club. It will be held on Saturday, May 19. The Kids Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m., and the 5k Run/2k Walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. One can register online at: bit.ly/judahillclimb2018. Come run for a purpose.

SPANISH CLUB This year, the Spanish Club will be organizing the Juda Hill Climb.

NHS CAR WASH The NHS members of Juda will be having a car wash on May 13 at the Juda Oasis from 12 to 3 p.m.

The car wash will cost $5. They will also be serving brats for $3, hot dogs for $2, and drinks for $1.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL May 4 there was 5th Grade Conservation Day in Monroe. May 9 is the 1st Grade end-of-the-year field trip. May 11 is the 4K and 5K endof-the-year field trip.

STAR WARS DAY Friday, May 4, was Star Wars Day. Students were allowed to dress up as a Star Wars characters or wear Star Wars apparel to earn raffle tickets. Teachers also asked trivia questions at the beginning of each class to give out raffle tickets. Drawings were held at the beginning of flex hour and were announced during the afternoon announcements. There was also Star Wars trivia during flex and Star Wars movies playing.

FFA The Dairy Judging Team and the Ag Mechanics Team competed in the State CDE competition.

The Senior Dairy Judging Team consisted of Clayton Mahlkuch, who placed 2nd individually, Brian McCullough, who placed 11th individually, Rachel McCullough, who placed 19th individually, and Cole Mahlkuch, who placed 27th individually.

The Senior Dairy Judging Team placed 2nd out of 43 teams. The Ag Mechanics Team consisted of Clayton Hale, who placed 12th individually, Quinton Kammerer, Jacob Miller, and Cole Fortney. The Ag Mechanics Team placed 6th out of

19 teams.

The State FFA Convention is coming up soon. The convention will be June 11-14, and it will be held in Madison. FFA members, let Mr. Johnson or Ms. Bietz know if you would like to attend.

CHEESE DAYS PRINCE AND PRINCESS CONTEST The 2018 Green County Cheese Days Prince & Princess Contest will be held on June 2, 2018. To qualify, one must be 6 years old by Friday, September 14, 2018, and not older than 9 by Sunday, September 16, 2018, and must be a Green County resident. A parent or guardian also must accompany the child to all events as well as provide transportation to and from all events. What are our students working toward?

While our seniors are preparing to graduate … what are their plans?

How will they improve our society and our workforce? What options do they have in the first place?

As our students, all of our students, are working towards graduation we need to keep in mind that this is NOT an end point, but merely a starting point.

They may not be under our constant supervision and have support from family, friends, and school staff as much as they once had, which means we need to be preparing them now to make decisions that will not only better their future, but have a positive impact on society.

How are we helping and, possibly, hindering them today from future success in a career, raising a family,

and being productive in society?

Albany Middle and High School students (grades 6-12) engage in an Academic and Career Planning process, which includes the academics and extracurricular activities they are involved in and also includes research and the development of strategies to help them make difficult decisions down the road.

They take career, college, and skill inventories and build a portfolio based off their interests and skills.

Does this mean my 7th grade student is choosing the career they plan to work in and cannot change it? No, absolutely not.

In the development process, students will change their mind a multitude of times and some may graduate high school without a definitive plan, but our goal is to equip them with the skills and questions necessary to con-

tinue on their own career journey and feel successful. When students know how to ask questions, where to find information about finances, and can reflect on their own skills and interests to develop a plan, they are much more likely to be and feel successful in their career journey.

For some students, their path is pretty straight forward—graduate high school, go to a 4-year college, and work in the field that they majored in—for others, though, the path is not always so straight forward.

Some will go directly into the workforce and potentially earn certifications and receive additional training on the job, others may join the military and go to a 4-year or technical school when they have finished their service to our country, while others may enter technical college and hone skills necessary for so many careers in our society.

Post-high school education is shifting and we may not see as many

students entering directly into 4-year college for various reasons, which makes it even more important that our students know options and feel comfortable selecting from those options.

Our society is constantly changing and evolving, which means we need to equip our students for a future where they will always engage in continuous learning and that the career they enter may not continue to look the same as technology expands and the world becomes more interconnected.

What the school district is helping students develop and reflect on should not be in isolation. Some advice that I can provide to help our students continue on this Academic and Career Planning process is to encourage discussion at home, in the community, and at school.

The more a student knows, the more prepared they are to make decisions that will affect their own life.

Ask your student about their Academic and Career Planning portfolio, they can pull up Career Cruising at any time and in any place.

Offer support not only to your student, but to other students in our community. You may not know it now, but someone in our school is probably interested in or has questions about the exact career you are in and, in my opinion, there is no better opportunity for learning than firsthand experience and knowledge.

Let’s make our community a place where are students feel so safe and comfortable exploring the world around them and career opportunities that they will experience nothing else, but success.

On a final note, encourage your students to pursue their passion because going to work every day should not feel like a chore and when they are excited about what they get to do or what they are studying, our community will be a brighter place.

Green Cares Food Relay For Life of Green Pantry pairs with We Energies to fight hunger County seeks teams for event PRESS RELEASE FROM GREEN COUNTY CARES

The We Energies Foundation, through its grant award, is uniting with the Green Cares Food Pantry to combat food insecurity throughout Green County.

The We Energies Foundation, established in 1982, strives to create brighter futures for communities in Wisconsin and Michigan. It has invested more than $160 million in support of activities of nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations in communities that are served by We Energies. The Foundation is funded by stockholders of WEC Energy Group, the parent company of We Energies.

The Green Cares Board of Directors, led by Chairperson Jan Olson, is very pleased the Foundation is joining the pantry’s efforts to combat hunger.

Green Cares Food Pantry, located just outside of Monticello, is the largest food pantry in Green County, serving low-income Green County households. During 2017, Green Cares served 3,173 households comprised of 9,611 individuals.

Green Cares’ hours of operation are Tuesdays from 4 PM – 7 PM and on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, the pantry has expanded hours, open from 10 AM – 7 PM, Thursdays from 9 AM – Noon, and Saturdays from 8 AM – 11:30 AM. If you know of someone that needs assistance, please encourage them to call 938.4238 to schedule a confidential appointment with a Green Cares volunteer.

Green Cares Food Pantry, a United Way of Green County beneficiary, is run entirely by volunteers. During 2017, over 5,200 hours were donated by 188 volunteers.

Green Cares exists through the financial support of individual and corporate donors, and foundation grants such as the We Energies Foundation grant. The American Cancer Society is recruiting teams from businesses, schools, families, and places of worship to participate in the Relay For Life of Green County event. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 23rd at the SLICE Ice Arena in Monroe. Relay For Life teams are committed to finishing the fight against cancer and raise funds to support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission. Each new team that registers brings us one step closer to saving more lives.”

Relay For Life is a community-based family event where teams and individuals take turns walking or running around the track. A goal for each team is to have at least one participant on the track at all times. Cancer survivors and caregivers take a celebratory first lap to start each event. This year, Green County’s goal is to raise $35,000 to support the Society’s mission to finish the fight against cancer once and for all. Three downtown Albany businesses honored The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce awarded Downtown Revitalization Awards to three downtown businesses who made improvements to properties downtown in 2017.

David Parr, owner of Parrfection Produce, was honored. According to a press release from the Albany Chamber of Commerce, “Thanks to David Parr, a new building was constructed on his property. In addition to providing a cooler, it makes an attractive addition, as it is colored red to match the existing brick building and four small barn quilts visible from its open side add to the appearance.”

Jenny Bryant, owner of S&B Tubing, was also honored. According to

the release, Bryant has “improved S*B Tubing inside and out. She renovated the building by adding outside bathrooms, painted the building, installed a new roof, erected a new sign, and put in flower pots. She has also provided portable bathrooms for S&B customers as well as others.

Timmy and Tanya Porter were honored for their work as proprietors of Sugar River Hideaway. The Porters have provided a place to stay in downtown Albany by “transforming the vacant first floor of a building into an attractive residence for travelers. Now visitors can stay in a three-bedroom home-away-fromhome in Albany where they can enjoy its setting on the Sugar River and nearby dining options.”

In 2017, three measures of Wisconsin’s short-term fiscal health were at their highest levels since at least 2002. Progress since 2009 was largely linked to increases at the U.W. System and in the state unemployment insurance fund.

About 29% ($1.33 billion) of the 2009-17 increase was due to a return to a solvent unemployment reserve fund. In 2008, the state gradually increased the amount of wages subject to the unemployment tax, from $10,500 in 2008 to $14,000 in 2013 and thereafter. That action, along with benefit changes and declining

unemployment, helped reverse annual deficits in the fund. As of 2017, the fund had assets totaling more than $1.5 billion.

Another 29% ($1.34 billion) of the gain was from rising balances in the U.W. System; 17% ($798 million) was the result of higher ending balances in the state general and “rainy-day” funds.

Pet Talk: Is your horse at risk for Squamous Cell Carcinoma?

Cell Carcinoma (SCC), a type of skin cancer that commonly occurs on white-skinned areas of horses, can be difficult to treat. That’s why Dr. Leslie Easterwood, a clinical assistant professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, said early detection and treatment are key.

SCC most commonly occurs at mucocutaneous junctions, such as the eyes, nose, sheath, vulva, and rectal sphincter, Easterwood said.

Although SCC has some genetic predispositions, sun exposure can also accelerate the disease.

Easterwood added that SCC also can develop if the horse has prolonged liver disease or if the horse has had a thermal injury. Long-term exposure to toxic plants may also increase the risk of liver dysfunction, and thus lead to SCC on the affected white skin.

Early SCC lesions look like ulcerated erosions of the skin or sun burning. These lesions can develop into tumors and spread to other areas of the body, including the lymph nodes and sinuses.

If you think your horse may be developing a SCC tumor, immediate care is recommended, as treatment can be challenging.

“SCC tumors tend to enlarge and damage surrounding tissue,” Easterwood said. “As the tumors enlarge, they invade larger areas, and this makes removal more difficult. Eyelid lesions are particularly important to catch and treat early so that we can maintain enough eyelid tissue so that the horse will be able to blink and lubricate the eye. In advanced cases, we sometimes have to remove the eye, even though it is not effected by the tumor, because we do not have enough functioning eyelid to maintain lubrication of the globe.”

There are a variety of ways to treat SCC; the ideal treatment for each case is based on many factors, such as the location of the tumor and the risk of the tumor spreading, Easterwood said. Surgery, chemotherapy, and cryotherapy are some of the traditional options.

Photodynamic Dye Therapy (PDT) has been used at the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) and has shown great promise for the treatment of SCC.

PDT involves the removal of most of the tumor and injecting dye into the affected area. The dye is then activated by exposure to a therapeutic light. This activation causes the release of molecules that result in death of the remaining cancerous cells.

“To date, we have performed about 100 of PDT procedures at the VMTH and have had overwhelmingly positive results,” Easterwood said.

There are also ways to help prevent SCC. “Any decrease in sun exposure is likely helpful,” Easterwood said. “Face masks with UV protection, SPF protective lotions, and limited turnout during daylight hours are all ways to decrease SCC risk.”

Horses that have had SCC tumors in the past are more likely to develop them again. It’s best to always keep an eye on your horse and report any skin abnormalities to your veterinarian.

Invasive New Zealand Mudsnail found at new locations Efforts needed to stop spread into area streams

The Wisconsin DNR has now reported that the New Zealand mudsnail (Potamopyrgus antipodarum) has been found in two new streams, Mt. Vernon Creek (Dane Co.) and Rowan Creek (Columbia Co.).

This introduced invasive is a small snail (4-6mm) and is able to survive out of water for a considerable amount of time. This makes it particularly suited to being transported unintentionally by stream users within tiny crevices or contained in mud on recreational equipment, such as waders.

It is a primary consumer of algae and, to a lesser extent, detritus material. It has the ability to reproduce asexually, therefore a new population can be established with the introduction of only one individual to a stream.

The species has the ability to reach high population densities (up to 750,000 snails per square meter) and disrupt natural food chains.

New Zealand mudsnail is a recent invader in Wisconsin, and its impacts are unknown at this time. Research on western U.S. populations show multiple negative impacts. Its high reproductive potential has enabled it to reach extraordinary densities in some locations. Researchers at Montana State University have reported densities of up to 750,000 snails per square meter in Yellowstone National Park. Please remember to implement the Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers guidelines: • Inspect your equipment, including waders, nets, and fishing gear, boats and trailers • Remove any attached aquatic plants or animals • Drain all water from boats and equipment; and • Never move live fish away from a body of water.

People who wade streams for any reason can also use a brush to scrub their boots and waders and then rinse thoroughly with tap water away from the stream. Freezing gear for at least eight hours will further reduce the risk of transporting New Zealand mudsnails to other streams. By performing these prevention actions water users can further protect our waters and stop the spread of invasive species.

Local EMT up for Wis. EMT of the Year

Brodhead Post 197 American Legion is very pleased to announce that Cindy Klein who currently serves the Brodhead EMT Service has been selected as the 3rd District EMT of the Year and will be considered as one of 12 candidates for the State of Wisconsin EMT of the Year at the State of Wisconsin American Legion Convention in July.

Klein was first selected by the Post, and then by the Green County selection committee, and recently was chosen as the representative for the 7-county 3rd district. We wish her success in the State competition.

Cindy serves on the Green County Aging and Disabilities Committee and the Monroe Clinic Ethics Committee. Cindy is passionate about Advance Directives and making individual healthcare known by those close to them. Klein gives educational presentations in the area, and is involved with her church as choir director.

Parts Distribution Warehouse (2nd Shift) – The position involves receiving, picking, packing and shipping service/repair parts. The position requires knowledge and basic skills in the areas of machining, metal fabrication, welding, torch and plasma cutting, grinding, assembly, and dimensional layout. A qualified candidate must have in depth knowledge of blueprint reading, at least one major skill-set of welding or machining or metals fabrication, basic skills and experience in others.

Fabrication (2nd Shift) – Seeking operators of fabrication equipment including shear, brake press, punch press, saw and NC backgauge. The position requires the ability to read blueprints, complete fabrication measurements, operate forklift, overhead crane, and sheet lifters. Experience operating fabrication equipment is preferred.

Welder (1st & 2nd Shift) – Seeking skilled welders to weld unit shells, sub-assemblies and components. A vocational diploma in welding or a minimum of two years production welding experience is required. Experience in GMAW and flux cored arc welding, blue print reading and operating material handling equipment is preferred. Famous Estates – One of the best parts about the Geneva Lake shore path is the ability to get up close to some of the most famous estates on the lake. While you can’t go up to the houses themselves, the shore path will take you right past famous homes such as Stone Manor (the largest home ever built on the lake) and the Wrigley estate (of Wrigley’s chewing gum fame).

Black Point Estate & Gardens – Speaking of famous estates, one of Geneva Lake’s most well-known homes is also a Wisconsin Historic Site. Black Point Estate & Gardens is only accessible via the shore path or a tour boat and is open for tours May through October.

Geneva Lake Museum – Want more Lake Geneva history? The Geneva Lake Museum is packed with exhibits ranging from the time of the glaciers to the area’s first Native American tribes through the boom of Chicagoans moving into the area. Don’t miss the museum’s collection of exhibits from the World’s Fair of 1893!

Baker House 1885 - After a long day winding along the shore path, enjoy a relaxing sunset toast at Baker House 1885, a stunning, historic home-turned-hotel just steps off the shore path in Lake Geneva.

Flyboarding – Sure, Geneva Lake is perfect for boating, tubing, kayaking and swim-

ming, but here, you can also try flyboarding.

Essentially a water jetpack, flyboarding is a growing trend, and Wisconsin Hydrosports has everything needed to get you flying over the water.

Lake Geneva Cruise Line – So for those not too keen on water jetpacks, the Lake Geneva Cruise Line offers numerous cruises and tours around Geneva Lake throughout the year. And even during the holidays, the Santa Cruise whisks families away to the “North Pole” for a magical Christmas adventure.

Oakfire – You’re sure to work up an appetite after all this hiking, so step right off the path in downtown Lake Geneva at Oakfire.

This modern take on Napoletana-style pizza is sure to get you re-energized to conquer the rest of the path.

Pier 290 – About six miles down the shore path from Lake Geneva, you’ll walk right past Pier 290 in Williams Bay. Enjoy a drink at their outdoor bar, indulge in some classic Wisconsin comfort food or stick your toes in the sand on the beach. Pier 290 is one of only two commercial properties on Geneva Lake with direct lakefront access.

Gordy’s Marine – Trekking farther along the shore path brings you to Fontana-on-Geneva-Lake, home to Gordy’s Marine. A staple of the Lake Geneva area for over 60 years, Gordy’s is the go-to place for boat rentals and service, plus water sport lessons and of course, a bar and restaurant with lake views.

Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn – Literally right next door to Gordy’s Marine is Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn. Known for its music scene and famous “purple drink,” Chuck’s is a beloved party spot for those looking for some lakeside summer fun.

Maintenance (2nd Shift) – Seeking an individual with a strong background in electrical maintenance with at least two years manufacturing maintenance experience and/or a technical diploma in electro/ mechanical maintenance. Painter (2nd Shift) – This position involves painting parts and units with an electrostatic spray gun while conforming to established quality standards. A vocational diploma in auto body and paint technology, with knowledge of coatings, coating systems, and electrostatic spray coating is preferred. Ability to read basic blueprints and measuring devices and wear a fully enclosed hood type air supplied respirator is required.

Parts Inventory Planner – The Parts Inventory Planner is responsible for the accurate planning, scheduling, and expediting of repair parts to satisfy current customer demand and anticipated demand by utilizing and maintaining electronic tools and product/process knowledge. Regular duties include review all system reports to determine appropriate action (order, expedite/deexpedite, cancel, transfer, maintain input data, etc.) based on inventory changes, demand, and projections, initiate parts expediting activities by communicating with appropriate Purchasing or Production/Inventory Control group, create and maintain item data and information (lead times, order multiples, min/max, etc.) in AS400 system to ensure the most accurate output, and review ECNs and implement data and inventory changes to align with engineering changes. A high school diploma or GED and experience working in an inventory control environment is required. Knowledge of and experience in the areas of customer service, inventory, logistics, agricultural equipment and intermediate computer skills (MS Word and Excel, ERP/AS400, Internet, and e-mail is preferred.

Product Support Technician – The position supports KNA personnel and dealers in solving after sale service issues for products marketed by Kuhn North America. Duties include investigating warranty claims by performing failure analysis, assisting the Electronics Technician with scale repairs, assisting with the creation of product support documentation by testing repair procedures, reconditioning/repairing equipment, and assisting with trades shows and product/field demonstrations. An Associate Degree in Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Equipment Technology or related degree program is preferred. Advanced education in engineering or manufacturing or three years’ experience in manufacturing required.
