Positive messages
Juda first-grader Autymn spent the morning writing positive messages on the sidewalk for everyone to read while they get some fresh air. Some neighbors even joined in the fun! Great job, Autymn!
It was a tough season for the Albany Comets boys’ basketball squad this past season. They finished the year with just a record of 2-21 with an early season win over Madison Country Day and a late season victory over Juda. It can be difficult to stand out in such a difficult situation, but two Comet athletes made the most of their opportunities as junior Clay Hulbert and sophomore Jevon Ferguson were able to earn Honorable Mentions when the Six Rivers-East Conference announced their All-Conference teams. With what stats were available, Ferguson led the team in scoring with just under ten points-per-game and Hulbert averaged just under seven. It isn’t all bad news for the Comets after all, who return a majority of their roster from last season, in-
cluding their leading scorers. Hulbert will look to lead the way as he returns for his junior campaign and it will be exciting to see what Ferguson brings to the court after his impressive sophomore run. The Comets hope to turn it around and get back on the winning side of things, and if they continue to develop, they may have the tools to do so. On the other hand, the Lady Comets had a very successful season. Despite the tough Regional Final loss to Fall River, the Albany girls’ basketball team finished the year with a record of 18-7. Led by Head Coach Derik Doescher, it was the highest total win mark for the Lady Comets dating all the way back to 2002, which was as far back as I could check. The exciting thing about the Lady Comets’ success is that they were led by Brianna Dahl, who was
just a sophomore as she finished the year averaging over fifteen pointsper-game and earned a First Team All-Conference selection in the Six Rivers-East Conference. She finished fourth in the conference in scoring, narrowly missing out on the top three. Albany has a duo of effective sophomores, however, as Payton Wachholz had an impressive year two and finished with a Second Team All-Conference award. Although the Lady Comets were led by their youth in scoring, they had a pair of seniors to lead them along the way and Kristen O’bel was able to finish her basketball career with an Honorable Mention as she goes out with her classmate Haley Meuller. With such a young team leading Albany to eighteen wins, it will be a lot of fun to see what they can do when they return to the floor next season.
Orfordville is doing well with 2020 Census By Sherri Waege ORFORDVILLE VILLAGE CLERK
Jerry Huffman from the US Census Bureau called, he is the field rep for our area. He wanted to let us know that the Village of Orfordville is doing very well with Census response! The State is at 30% return, Rock County is at 33%, and the Village of Orfordville is at 35%. Thank you to those that have gotten it done already. For those that have not,
give me a call at 879-2004 if I can do anything to assist you with it. I did ask him about a few of the things that you asked about on my last Census Post. Tammy Ratzburg-Northcutt you replied that you received a 49 page form in the mail. That is a legitimate Census document, but different than this one. Apparently, they do others throughout the year and that was what you received. The Census
form for this time is called the Decennial Census. Also, I asked about the follow up letters. I think Sven Prestbroten brought that up. I got one myself in less than a week of receiving the first one. He said that is part of the mailing plan and you can disregard it. It seems costly to do that but nothing I can do about it I guess. So well done Orfordville residents, well done!
Orfordville Village Hall open for voting only Water bills went out Monday and we are getting many people droppimg by Village Hall to pay for their water bills in person. We have talked with the Village President and have decided that it is in the best interest of all of us, including you, that all payments be placed in the drop box at this time. The drop box will be checked every morning, with the contents placed in a box. The box
will sit for three days before the payments are handled and processed. Many of you like a stamped receipt, you can ask for that with your payment and we will mail you one. It will be delayed due to the payments sitting three days. You can still set up a Deferred Payment Agreement, please list what you would like your arrangements to be and we will mail you a copy.
So at this time, only people coming in to register to vote or vote absentee can come into the Village Hall. This applies to everyone. We are still working. Please call us if you have to instead of coming in the building. You can call us for questions, including questions for the Police Department. As always, please dial 911 if you have an emergency!!
