Garden club offers scholarship The Brodhead Evening Garden Club is offering a $250 scholarship to a local graduating senior. The award is open to students from Brodhead, Juda, Albany and Orfordville, as well as home school applicants who are pursuing a degree in agriculture with a preference in horticulture, plant science, landscaping or turf science. Students may attend a fouryear, two-year or technical school. The scholarship money will be awarded upon completion of first semester. Applicants are asked to submit an application plus a twopage essay detailing their high school achievements, grade point average, extracurricular activities, future goals and career objectives. Applications must be submitted by April 15 to: Marian Taylor, 15246 W. Skinner Road, Brodhead, WI 53520.

Citing uncertainty, organizers of the Cheese Days festival announced last week that the popular Monroe gathering won’t be held this year. Cheese Days also was canceled in 2020 amid the pandemic. “Various elements are critical to the success of the Cheese Days festival — corporate sponsorship, volunteerism, community support and participation by vendors,” according to a news release. “As of today, there is no guarantee that all elements will be fully engaged. All are required to build the solid foundation necessary to put on an event of this size and scope. At this time, it is impossible to plan and coordinate without that foundation.” “Festival-goers anticipate a weekend full of family fun, Swiss entertainment, agricultural education, the big cheese tent, a giant parade, and the best deep-fried cheese curds,” the release said. “A Cheese Days festival without all of those pieces firmly in place would not ring true to expectations by attendees or organizers.” Volunteers are welcome to join in now to help plan the next Cheese Days festival, set for Sept. 16 through Sept. 18, 2022.
