Ten common coronavirus questions A deadly new coronavirus is spreading across the globe, with at least 48 countries on six continents confirming cases as of Thursday.

The new virus has infected more than 81,000 people and killed about 2,800 others since it was first detected

in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late December. The vast majority of infections and deaths have occurred on mainland China, but the rapid spread of the virus has triggered worries world over.

Obituary ALICE JANE KRUEGER Alice Jane Krueger age 96 passed away on Monday March 10, 2020 at Evansville Manor Nursing Home. She was born on Jan. 8, 1924 the daughter of Raymond and Byrd (Lewis) Root.

She graduated from Albany High School Class of 1942. She married Eugene Krueger and together they operated Albany Dairy for several years.

He preceded her in death in 2001. She was a bookkeeper for Krueger Construction, drove school bus for the Albany School District and worked as a meter reader for Wisconsin Gas Company. She was a former member of the Albany EMS, McDermott-Steindorf Ladies Auxiliary Post 144, a former Cub Scout leader and enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers. She is survived by her son: Dennis (Chris

Mauerman) of Albany, grandsons: Kurt (Kris) of Evansville, Craig of Albany, great-grand daughters: Allie, Maddie, Ainsley, Katie, sisters: Nancy Coffey of Prairie Du Sac, Shirley Conrad of Evansville, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, brother: Don Root, sister: Joanne Hubacher.

Those most at risk are the elderly or patients with pre-existing conditions, such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.

4. Is coronavirus contagious?

Yes, the new virus can spread from human to human.

5. How does coronavirus spread?

The disease mainly spreads from person to person through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or exhales. It can also be transmitted via contaminated surfaces.

6. How long do coronaviruses live on surfaces?

It is not clear how long the new coronavirus survives on surfaces, but the WHO says it seems to behave like

other coronaviruses. The agency says coronaviruses, including the one that causes COVID-19, can persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days.

7. Can humans get the new coronavirus from cats and dogs?

No. 8. How do you treat the new coronavirus?

There is no vaccine and no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-19. Those affected should receive care to relieve symptoms and most patients recover due to supportive care.

9. Are bats the animal source of coronavirus?

The possible animal source of COVID-19 has not yet been confirmed.

10. What is MERS coronavirus?

MERS is a respiratory disease caused by a type of coronavirus similar to the one that causes COVID-19. The disease first emerged in Saudi Arabia in 2012, and it is thought the animal source of the infection is dromedary camel.

The Albany HS girls basketball team culminated their season with their banquet on Sunday, March 8. The coaches would like to thank and congratulate all the JV and Varsity players on very successful seasons. The Lady Comets varsity team finished the season with an 18-7 record which is the best records since 2002. They also advanced to the Regional Championship before being ousted by a very good Fall River team.

Observing energy

Eighth grade Juda students are analyzing energy in systems, specifically kinetic and gravitational potential energy. They were given a scenario and they had to create it using materials given - bouncy and tennis balls, lab stand, masking tape, string, and a meter stick.

Once their system was made, they had to analyze the two forms of energy and note their observations.

Youth Art Month

March 6, was the Wisconsin Youth Art Month celebration at the Capitol. Nick Pina, Lillyanna Schmid, and Lorelei Pagett all had artwork on display at the Capitol. John Bartels and Lorelei Pagett were honored as winners of the 2020 Youth Art Month Wisconsin Flag design contest. Congratulations to these creative students! Happy Youth Art Month.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT The music department has been very busy lately. The Jazz Band played at Aster Assisted Living and Pleasant View Nursing home last week. The students did a great job and had a lot of fun talking to residents after each gig. The Pep Band also had their Last Blast concert last Monday. Finally, the New Orleans trip for Spring Break was canceled due to the unsafe health issues with the Coronavirus.

SOFTBALL The 2020 Juda-Albany Softball season has officially begun. The girls have been working very hard in open gyms and are excited to begin the season. This week›s practices will be held in Juda. The first game for the Lady Panthers is Monday, March 30 in Albany. This year’s Juda Seniors include Emily Makos, Lydia Bouc, Triniti Elmer, and Celina Mendoza.

BOYS BASKETBALL BANQUET Last Saturday the boys’ basketball team held a banquet to recognize the players for all of the hard work they put in during the season. For the varsity awards, Mason Kammerer received the Most Improved Player award, Payton Johnson was awarded Defensive Player of the Year, Trent Anderson received the Hustle award, and Gavin Kammerer reviewed the Most Valuable Player. Also, Gavin Kammerer received the Six River East Second Team All-Conference award. He will be playing in the Six Rivers All-Star Game on Friday, June 26 at Barneveld High School.

GIRLS BASKETBALL BANQUET Congratulations to the following: Cerriah Davis, Anna Skomal, Montana Steinmann, Triniti Elmer, and Taylor Golackson. These ladies all received an honor award for their hard work and determination throughout the season. Ciarrah Davis was awarded Ms. Hustle, Anna Skomal with Most Improved, Taylor Golackson and Triniti Elmer with Defensive Awards, and, finally, Montana Steinmann with an Offensive Award. Montana Steinmann also received the Six River East Second Team All-Conference award, while Taylor placed on Honorable Mention. These two ladies, along with Gavin Kammerer, have the honor of playing in the annual All-Conference Game this upcoming June. This year’s game will be held in Barneveld on Friday, June 26. Come out and support these seniors one last time.

JUDA SCHOOL ALUMNI TOURNAMENT Get your team together for the first-ever annual Juda High School

Alumni Basketball Tournament held Saturday, April 18. Games will be played in the Juda School Gymnasium with the first game tip-off at 9 a.m. To be eligible, individuals must have completed 3 years at Juda High School. Note: Past and present coaches and staff members are also eligible to play. There will be double elimination with a two-game guarantee. MIDDLE SCHOOL Students in 8th grade have been working hard in their science class learning about kinetic and gravitational potential energy. In their English class, they have been doing a lot of reading. Each day they read for ten minutes of class and have time to share what they have read with their classmates.

SKY ZONE The trip on Saturday, March 7 to Sky Zone had a great turnout. There are pictures on the Juda Facebook page if interested in seeing the students having fun together at this activity.

SPANISH CLUB The 10th annual Juda Hill Climb will take place on Saturday, May 16.

There will be a 5K run, 2K walk, and a kids’ fun run. The kids’ fun run will start at 9 a.m. with the 5K run and 2K walk to follow. They will all start and end at the Juda School, N2385 Spring Street. The proceeds will go to the Spanish Club’s biannual trip. To register, go to bit. ly/2020JudaHillClimb. There will also be an awards ceremony for top finishers and free door prizes for registrants after the race. We hope to see you there! During flex on Thursday, March 26, there will be a Spanish Club meeting for students interested in going to Costa Rica.

The student and parent meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 1, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Spanish

room. Tentative dates, cost, payment schedules, and any schedules will be discussed.

TEACHER OF THE WEEK The teacher of the week is Mrs. Brenda Bredeson, who is in her twenty-second year of teaching High School English at Juda. Bredeson explored becoming an English major in college, and after graduation decided to pursue teaching. Getting her students interested in reading is her favorite part of teaching.

Reading is Mrs. Bredeson’s favorite pastime.

FORENSICS Royce Brauer earned the right to advance to state competition for his radio speaking performance at district competition; unfortunately, state competition has been canceled for this year.

JUDA POST PROM The Juniors are holding a Meat Raffle on Sunday, March 22, from noon to 4 p.m. at T&T Last Chance Saloon. There will be $2 meat and cheese paddles, a $20 per ticket 50/50 raffle, and a ¼ beef drawing at 3 p.m. All proceeds will go towards Juda’s Post Prom.

FURNITURE AUCTION The high school art classes have finished painting their furniture and all pieces are up for auction now.

The bidding ends on March 27 after school. Thank you, high schoolers, for your work and dedication. Please come in and bid on the beautiful pieces.

JAZZ BAND The Jazz Band has continued to practice “Cold Duct Time,” “Area 51,” and many other songs to be prepared for future gigs and the upcoming band concert.

INFORMATION REPORTS The Administrative Team presented information reports.

Superintendent Lenny Lueck recognized Tonya Buttke and Lisa Licht for their extra work required related to the new van and Show Choir trailer purchases. He also thanked Erica Foulker and Tiffany Shelton for providing student artwork for the Board meetings.

Elementary School Principal Dave Novy and Director of Technology Kevin Buxton both acknowledged the work being done by Brittany Fitzgerald. Brittany is in her first year teaching and she also continues to coordinate the CLC After-School Program at the Elementary School. Brittany along with the rest of the staff continue to do an outstanding job with this program.

Comptroller Cathy Pfeuti gave a big thank you to all District secretaries for their assistance with the January membership count. She also thanked Lisa Licht for her time and effort tracking ACA hours throughout the year and at year end.
