Music in our Schools Month With the continual threat of budget cuts, it’s important now more than ever to recognize the significant influence music education has on school-aged children. The first National Music in Our Schools month took place in New York back in March 1973, and it’s been growing in popularity ever since. We recognize the importance of music education, so join us as we celebrate this important cause. We have amazing music leaders in our schools at every age level. Suzanne Calhoun at the elementary school, Beth Riesterer at the middle school and Jason Riesterer and Megan Krupke at the high school. Hundreds of students have begun a lifelong love of music due to the talent and dedication of these instructors. Throughout the month of March, we will be sharing stories of music in our school district with you. There are a number of ways you can show your support for our Music Programs throughout the month of March and beyond.

Join Us For Our...

First and foremost, take a moment to thank our instructors and encourage your kids to do the same. A note of thanks can be exceptionally meaningful during busy and stressful times. These instructors put in long hours for lessons, rehearsals, concert set up, conducting, concert tear down, trips and special events. A note of encouragement and thanks would be meaningful. Second, come out and enjoy FREE musical performances! On Thursday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. the third grade will perform “A Day at the Beach” and at 7:15 p.m. the fourth grade will perform their program called “4th Grade Hoe Down”. Lastly, musical instruments can last a long time but occasionally they need to be replaced. Presently, the band needs to replace a timpani, the one we have is nearly 50 years old. If you would like to make a donation to that purchase, please contact Jason Riesterer at the high school or Beth at the middle school.

Another successful Brodhead High School Show Choir “In the Spotlight” event was completed Feb. 22. This year’s event had sixteen schools from Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin competing. The great weather brought out hundreds of spectators. Those that attended the event got to enjoy twenty spectacular performances put on by approximately six hundred High School students. The competition was fierce with some very close scores. Results for the Open Division were: Grand Champion – Onalaska, 1st runner up – Hamilton, 2nd runner up – Neenah, 3rd runner up – Dwight Eisenhower, 4th runner up – Chesterton, 5th runner up – Manteno. Results for the Prep Division were: Grand Champion – Chesterton High School, 1st Runner Up – Onalaska, 2nd Runner up – Green Bay Southwest. An event of this magnitude is not successful without the help of numerous people. A huge thank you goes out to Kendra Kail and Kathy Visger for the hours spent putting this event together. They were assisted by committee members Tammy Gibbs, Thea Engen, and Angie Shelly. Some other behind the scenes workers that were extremely important were Tonya Buttke, Tracy Lueck, and Jim Huffman. We also want to thank Brian Kammerer and the Buildings and Grounds crew for all of their assistance. In the Spotlight would not be successful without the students, parents, and community as well. Due to a shortage of volunteers, the program
