Orfordville aiming for Oct. 2019 completion of sewage, wastewater overhaul

Those finishing first and second move on to the sectional. The sectional at Mineral Point was Feb. 17. None of the wrestlers were able to advance to the state championships this year.

Gavon Brown started wrestling with the Viking Youth

wrestling program thirteen years ago. He said that wrestlers work at their sport year round. When asked why he wrestled, he said he started when he was young and kept doing it and he did well in it so he kept it up.

Conner Nolan and Korben Brown have both been wrestling for ten years, also starting with the Viking Youth Wrestling program. Chase Carratt said he just started wrestling this year. All four of the wrestlers also played football in the fall.

The sewage system and wastewater treatment plant were the main items on the agenda at the Orfordville Board Meeting.

Maureen Huebler from Ehlers & Associates presented information to the board regarding the loan to proceed with construction on the sewage system. Huebler’s job is to coordinate paperwork to meet the requirements necessary to issue a loan agreement.

In a telephone interview, Huebler said the loan agreement and first monetary installment of the loan can be completed as soon as late spring or early summer. The purpose of the loan, as stated in the application, is “To upgrade parts of the treatment facility, replace old or aging equipment, rehab existing structures, improve existing parts and provide additional space.”

Orfordville will also seek out resources such as Rural Development and the Clean Water Fund to aide in the project.

Portzen Construction, based out of Dubuque, Iowa, will be doing the construction on the sewage system for Orfordville.

Ben Heidemann, the engineer for the wastewater treatment project, requested a change of order approval for the project.

He said since the project had

been delayed for some time, the timeline of the project needed to be corrected in the initial proposal.

The project is estimated to be completed within 510 days sof the Feb. 26 projected start date, and ending July 2019.

There will be 90 days after the initial 510 days that will be used for final completion, bringing the entire process in a close in October of 2019. In an email, Heidemann said “The 510 days is what is called Substantial completion, meaning the WWTP is operating as it was designed. The additional 90 days is for what is called Final completion, which is time for them to complete the non-essential items, such as restoration, seeding, paving, sidewalks, etc.”

The board approved the change of order.

The board also granted a Class “A” Fermented Malt Beverage License and a “Class A Intoxicating Liquor License” to Dollar General.

Orfordville Police Chief Brian Raupp presented articles to the board listing the date, time, officer, and nature of the call made to the department. The report also included explanations of abbreviations used in such a report.

The next Village Board Meeting will be held at Orfordville Village Hall on Monday, Feb. 26, 2018 at 7 p.m.

Grandma’s Apron Strings Program at Albertson Memorial Library

Please join us at Albertson Memorial Library for the program, “Grandma’s Apron Strings,” on Monday, March 12 at 6 p.m.

Kris Winkler and Lynn Lokken are longtime friends from Monroe, Wisconsin. They are members of Green County HCE (formerly known as Homemakers), Master Gardeners, and are 4-H leaders. They own about 300 aprons between the two of them. They love to share their collection with others.

We encourage attendees to share their aprons, too. There will be a short show and tell from the audience after the main program is done.

Albany Lions host Pancake Day

Advertised as “All the cakes you can eat” the 51st annual Pancake Day was held at the Albany Lions Club on February 10th from 7am -1pm. The prices were adults $7 , kids 5-12 $3 and kids 4 and under ate free.

All the money goes to benefit Lions Club International, the largest service organization in the world.

The event is put on by Lions Club volunteers, as well Albany FFA kids and Dairy Queens who hand out cheese.

The food comes from Limburger cheese, Olin Mini Mart, the Albany

FFA and the Evansville Piggly Wiggly.

People come from all over for pancakes.

“The community is a great supporter of the Lions Club. The Lions Club does a lot of benefits for the community,” said Lions Club member Dean Houlberg.

County Board considering naming Monroe Times county paper of record EDITOR

The Green County Board tabled a decision to remove the “Paper of Record” designation from the Brodhead Independent-Register at their meeting Feb. 13.

Board members heard from Monroe Times publisher Matt Johnson, who suggested the Times was a better choice to be Green County’s paper of record, since it is located in the county seat.

Green County Clerk Michael Doyle said he compared a sample legal notice from the Oct. 25, 2017 issue of the Independent-Register, and then submitted the same notice to the Monroe Times for publication, and found the Times to be more affordable.

The board discussed the proposal at length, and Independent-Register editor Ryan Broege addressed the board, asking the board to table the resolution so that a counter-offer could be fielded, among other considerations.

The board voted 16-11 to table the resolution.

The board approved an outlay exceeding $75,000 for the purchase of a new paver. Board member Russ Torkelson, also a member of the Highway Committee, said he expected to pay roughly $600,000 for the piece of machinery, which will replace a 2001 model that Highway Commissioner Chris Narverson broke down twice last summer. The new paver would be a “vital piece of equipment,” Narveson said.

The paver will cover a 10-foot spread, but with extensions, can pave up to 22 feet across, and can pave up to 20 feet and two lanes on roads that only require 20-feet widths.

The board also approved a $10,000 outlay for a tabletop exercise to be conducted at Brodhead High School. The exercise will simulate a threat to the school.

The outlay will be reimbursed by the state, but the county has to make the initial outlay. The exercise will be followed up with a “functional exercise” in the fall.

The county had originally budgeted $6,000 for the program, but the entire expense of $11,180 will be recouped later this year from the state.

The board also allocated $10,000 to bring prosecutor (Name) to relieve acting Green County District Attorney Craig Nolen of his prosecutorial duties in State of Wisconsin vs. Casey J. Shelton. Shelton was sentenced to 40 years in prison in 2007 for first-degree reck-

less homicide in the death of his son.

The Wisconsin Innocence Project contends there is reason for a mistrial, and has filed a motion requesting a new trial. A status conference on that motion is scheduled for March 5 at the Green County courthouse.

Trust, but verify... an old Russian proverb. I’m not naturally a cynic or pessimistic but like most clear thinking folks I can detect a sales pitch when I hear one. Ever since it was first introduced to Brodhead citizens, Mayor Pinnow and his Senior/Community Center Committee has been pitching the “Old Fitness Center” building as the only answer to their perceived need the city has for a new community center, and it will be paid for with “grants and donations”. Getting real data, or for that matter even any answers, from them is like “pulling teeth” (pun intended). So, taking the committee’s own advice “go look at Creekside in Evansville” I did just that... Here’s what I found: Creekside Place, Inc. is indeed a very nice, newly constructed, six and one half year old facility with all the amenities. Built with funds from a $1 million bequest (earnings only-they keep the bequest in investments) and pledges and donations from community citizens, it is a 501c (3) corporation i.e. the City of Evansville does not own it and shares in no revenue or operating costs. Researching the State of Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions web site proved very enlightening, especially Creekside’s reported bottom-line figures...

Any private sector/public sector effort would be preferable, you know, the type where the city collects revenue rather than cutting checks!

Juda School Board meeting summary The Juda School Board met Feb. 14. District Secretary Traci Lincoln submitted the following summary: • Regretfully accepted the resignation of Dylan Cleveland as Boys Baseball Coach.

• Heard from students Emily Makos, Nikki Becker and Trent Davis in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters/Mentoring Program in the school. There are currently 30 students who serve as mentors for other students in the school.

• Heard from Board Members who attended the WASB Convention in January. They spoke about the various workshops they attended the vendors they spoke with.

• Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Larson updated the board on various events taking place in the school. The board was updated on the spring testing schedule and Mrs. Larson updated the board on grants she is working on. Mrs. Davis informed the board that the search for the new Band Director will begin soon.

• Learned the Recreation District is sponsoring a trip to a Milwaukee Brewer game in April. More information is available from the school.

• Mrs. Davis updated the board on referendum items. There is currently $202,417 in undesignated funds.

• Took no action coming out of closed session.

Oakley Union Soup Day slated for March 3 It’s that time of year to mark your calendar for the 2018 Oakley Union UMC Church’s Annual “Soup Day” Fundraiser event that will be held on Saturday, March 3 from 11 am to 7 pm in fellowship hall.

There will be a craft and bake sale throughout the day featuring homemade pies, yummy bars and cookies, delicious jams and jellies, and many more wonderful items that have been donated or made by local families.

Our Menu Two types of homemade chili, homemade beef vegetable soup, chicken noodle soup, hot dogs, chili cheese dogs, Brick and Swiss cheese sandwiches, homemade desserts with ice cream, and beverages.

POST-PROM The junior class will be selling Decatur Dairy cheese until the end of February. The prices are very reasonable, and proceeds go towards PostProm. See any member of the junior class to place your order! On Thursday, February 22, the junior class will be having a BIG bake sale at the boys’ game. Each student from the junior class is asked to bring in one dozen baked goods. During the boys’ game, there will also be a 50/50 raffle and two raffle items to raffle off. The next Post-Prom meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.

READ ACROSS AMERICA Read Across America Day is coming up fast. This is always a favorite in the elementary. The day is spent reading. As a special treat, the students have Pizza Hut for lunch.

Zoe enjoys taking English classes with Mrs. Bredeson, playing volleyball, running with her best friend, Victoria Euclide-Petig, and doing artistic things like drawing, doing hair and doing makeup. Her favorite memory was going to New York with her friends for the Choir/

Band trip, and her favorite thing about the referendum is the Learning Commons. After high school, Zoe plans to go to MATC and then transfer to UW-Milwaukee to study architecture.

Samantha Anderson was born on April 24, 2000, to Ann and Scott Anderson. Her favorite teacher is her dad, who teaches math. She also likes being part of musical, volleyball, Spanish club, forensics, and band and choir. Samantha still plays cassette tapes in her car and enjoyed getting a 3D printer in Mr. Anderson’s room.

After high school, Samantha plans to go to college for Mechanical Engineering.

WRESTLING The Brodhead-Juda Wrestling Team traveled to Belleville on Saturday, February 10, for regionals.

Brian McCullough placed fifth in the 145-pound weight class, Jayson Starr placed fourth in the 126-pound weight class, and Trent Davis was the regional champion at the 220-pound weight class. Wrestlers who advanced to Sectionals at Richland Center on Saturday, February 17, are Kaleb Erb, Russell Waeffeler, Trent Davis, and Jackson Hauri. Results from sectionals will be posted in next week’s paper.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL The boys lost to Cassville by a score of 76 to 83 in overtime on February 10. Four players fouled out for the Panthers, including Keagen Haffele, Dakota Davis, Luke Skoumal and Cole Fortney. Keagen Haffele led all scorers with 22 points. The boys lost to Belmont on February 12 by a score of 63-73. Keagen Haffele led all scorers with 16, followed by Cole Fortney with 14 points, Luke Skoum-

al with 13, and Dakota Davis with 9.

On February 13, the boys lost to Platteville 57 to 90. Keagen Haffele led all scorers with 23 points followed by Jacob Miller with 5. The boys have 2 conference games left before the playoffs. They face off against Barneveld and Monticello.

GIRLS BASKETBALL The girls played at Monticello on February 12 and won 51-38. Lead scorers for this game were Mackenzie Byrne with 11 points and Maddie Roth, Erika Duecker, and Montana Steinmann all with 9 points. Good luck to the girls as they wrap up their season.

SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club wants to hand out a large thank you for the proceeds made from the bake sale and the carnation sale last Tuesday, February, 13.

Stay tuned for activities that will take place during National Foreign Language Week, March, 5-11.

MATH DEPARTMENT The Geometry class recently had Trig Week, which Mr. Anderson said is “Just like Shark Week, only better.”

They spent all week learning about the trig functions and how to use them. The engineering class is continuing to do research on how to save the school money by cutting power usage by counting the old lights that could be replaced with part of the $10,815 we got in rebates from the referendum. They are also looking to see what lights shouldn’t even be turned on or could be put on a light sensor or short-timer motion sensor.

The engineering class is also looking into another possible solar array and future solar plans, getting quotes from multiple companies.

STEAM The groups have continued running tests on their vehicles. The teams have to make a team name, a logo, and a video on why their robot is the best.

The structures for the contest have been constructed, and the contest has been changed from February to March.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT Congratulations to all who participated at District Solo and Ensemble at

Albany this past Saturday. You all did a great job! State Solo and Ensemble will be on Saturday, April 28, in Platteville.

ART DEPARTMENT Last week the kindergarten class had a super fun art day, and the first graders made Romero Britto hearts.

The second graders had a work day on their trees, and the third graders had a paper mache day. The fourth graders created monsters, and the fifth graders finished their mandalas. The sixth graders worked on mosaics, and the Odyssey of the Mind team worked on their projects.

The high schoolers continued working on their furniture projects that will be sold during a silent auction March 1-23.

FFA The Sectional LDE’s, better known as the speaking contest, is approaching fast. The contest will be held up in Oregon on March 8.

The FFA would like to wish the participants luck. Rachel McCullough and Jacob Mahlkuch will be competing. Rachel will be competing in Job Interview, and Jacob will be competing in Discussion Meet.

FFA WEEK On Monday the middle and high school FFA members had the chance to participate in an assembly during the day and play games that included Kahoot, feed bag relay, and egg relays. The dress-up day for Monday was navy blue. On Tuesday the middle and high school FFA members got the chance to participate in more games that included Ag Jeopardy, Pictionary, and Curling. There was also a very competitive Family Feud match between the high school FFA Officer Team and the high school and middle school teachers.

The dress-up day for Tuesday was dress like a farmer. Today the FFA held a breakfast for all teachers and staff members, serving from 6:307:45 am. The dress-up day for today was corn gold. Tomorrow there will be an awards ceremony during the middle school and high school lunches for members of the FFA who did an outstanding job during

FFA Week, whether it was dressing up or winning in any of the games.

The dress-up day for tomorrow will be FFA apparel.

FFA SPRING FRUIT AND MEAT SALE The FFA Spring Fruit and Meat Sale was a success. The FFA would like to thank all of those who purchased fruit and meat.

BREWERS GAME The Juda Recreation District is sponsoring a trip to a Brewers game. The game will be on Sunday, April 8, against the Cubs. Brodhead Police arrest one and seek another in rash of thefts assisted in locating the suspects in the backyards of homes between 15th and 16th Street. A foot chase ensued with police capturing Thomas S. Kusch, 23, of Madison. Brodhead Police are still looking for the second suspect, Ruslan M. Fedorov, 23, of Madison.

Police believe Fedorov may be driving a gray 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 door bearing Wisconsin license plate 550VEF. This vehicle was reported stolen from a driveway in the 1200 block W. 4th Ave. “We believe Fedorov may have

stolen this vehicle because he was last seen running in the direction of this neighborhood”, said Brodhead Police Chief Chris P. Hughes.

Police impounded the suspect vehicle, which contained stolen property from the areas of Albany, Brodhead, Brooklyn, Johnson Creek, Madison, and Oregon.

“We are still compiling a list of property contained within the impounded vehicle, but I encourage anyone from these areas who have property stolen their vehicles to contact their local law enforcement

Kusch is currently being held in the Green County Jail on preliminary charges of bail jumping and illegally possessing a prescription of a schedule II narcotic.

“Besides being sought by Brodhead Police, Fedorov also has a warrant for his arrest through the Department of Corrections”, Hughes said.

This is the second time in less than a month Brodhead Police have dealt with suspects in thefts from vehicles. Brodhead Police were notified by Portage Police on Jan. 21 they had taken into custody a Deondrae L. Bell, 28, of Madison, for being in possession of

stolen property.

Brodhead was hit with a rash of theft from vehicles on the 20th. Brodhead.

Police continue their investigation into these incidents Ruslan Federov due to information gathered indicates Bell had an accomplice.

At 3:42 a.m. last Thursday, Brodhead Police were dispatched to the 600 block of 16th Street for a report of an individual in the caller’s vehicle. The caller told police when they turned on the home’s yard lights, two subjects ran, leaving the area in a small light colored vehicle.

Police located the suspected vehicle in the 1400 block of 16th St. With the assistance of the Green County Sheriff’s Office, police set up a perimeter.

March corn futures prices continue to hover in a range between $3.48 and $3.60 since the release of the November World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report. The March corn futures price closed at $3.52 on Jan.19.

According to University of Illinois

agricultural economist Todd Hubbs, despite the overall bearish information contained in the USDA reports on Jan.12, corn prices continue to stay in relatively narrow range, and that pattern may remain for the next several weeks.

prices in this range,” Hubbs says. “The key contributing factor is the large 2017 U.S. crop. The forecast of the size of the crop increased in each month of the forecast sequence that began in August.

“The January estimate of the crop size was 451 million bushels larger than the August forecast. At 14.604 billion bushels, the final crop estimate added to the already large ending stocks in the 2017-18 marketing year.

The USDA ending stocks projection was at 2.335 billion bushels in September and at 2.477 billion in January.”

In addition to the larger crop estimate, Hubbs says weak export performance hampered any strengthening in corn prices. “The poor performance is yet to be reflected in USDA’s forecast for marketing year exports.”

The forecast sat at 1.85 billion bushels in August 2017 and increased to 1.925 billion bushels in November.

The January 2017 forecast for corn exports maintained the 1.925 billion bushel projection despite a slow start to the marketing year.

Exports during the first quarter of the marketing year totaled 349 million bushels, 199 million bushels less than during the same quarter last year.

Current weekly export inspections are running 36 percent behind last year’s pace as of Jan. 22.

Unshipped sales for the current marketing year as of Jan. 11 were reported at 641 million bushels compared to 718 million on the same date last year.

To reach the USDA projection for the marketing year, Hubbs says exports need to pick up substantially during the remainder of the marketing year.

Food and industrial use for corn were estimated at 1.745 billion during the first quarter driven by excellent corn use for ethanol. During the first quarter, corn use for ethanol came in

at 1.391 billion bushels, up from the 1.343 billion bushels used last year over the same period.

“The Energy Information Administration’s short-term energy outlook projects gasoline consumption as basically flat in 2018 from 2017 levels,” Hubbs says. “Any growth in corn use for ethanol may require ethanol export levels to repeat the strong performance seen in the 2017-18 marketing year.

“Ethanol exports lagged last year’s level by 18 percent in the first quarter, driven mostly by a reduction in exports to Brazil due to a 20 percent tariff rate quota implemented in September.

“A jump in gasoline consumption in 2018 or boost in ethanol exports could provide support for additional corn use for ethanol, but the USDA projection of 5.525 billion bushels is reasonable under the current consumption levels.”

According to Hubbs, the rate of feed and residual use of corn during the first quarter of the marketing year were somewhat disappointing. Based on the USDA’s estimate of Dec.1 corn inventories, 4.39 billion bushels of corn were used for all purposes during that quarter.

The residual, assumed to have been fed, totaled 2.298 billion, only 21 million bushels (0.9 percent) more than used during the same quarter last year despite larger livestock inventories.

The USDA currently projects feed and residual use of corn for the entire marketing year at 5.55 billion bushels, 1.5 percent larger than last year’s use and 25 million bushels less than the previous forecast.

“The percentage of annual use varies in the first quarter by several percentage points from year to year,” Hubbs says. “Over the last decade, first quarter feed and residual use averaged 42 percent of the marketing year total.

“First quarter use this marketing

year comes in at 41.4 percent of the current projection. The estimate of March 1 inventories to be released on March 29 needs to show a slightly larger use during the second quarter of the year to stay on pace.”

Despite the large crop and growth of ending stocks, Hubbs says a development that could help corn prices break out of the current range is decreased corn area in the U.S. in 2018. Planted acreage in 2017 was 3.837 million acres less than the planted area in 2016.

“Another decrease in planted area in 2018 is possible due to the higher profitability of soybeans relative to corn production in many areas,” Hubbs says. “Also, the USDA’s Winter Wheat Seedings report indicated that seedings for 2018 harvest were down only slightly from last year at 32.608 million acres, down 0.3 percent from the previous year.” In the Corn Belt, only Nebraska (-90,000 acres) and South Dakota (-60,000 acres) reduced winter wheat acreage from last year.

“There appears to be a limited area for additional acres of spring-planted crops, including corn, associated with acreage related to winter wheat,” Hubbs adds. “Strong cotton and spring wheat prices may see additional acreage allocated to those crops in some areas as well during the spring. A significant corn acreage reduction from last year in the March 29 prospective planting report would boost the probability of corn prices breaking out of the current range given current consumption levels.”

Hubbs says the present outlook projects ample corn supplies in 2018, which will likely keep corn prices in the current range until information on spring planting is released. “Planting decisions and spring weather conditions will determine if a price breakout is possible this spring.

Motion by Guth, seconded by Leonard to approve the minutes of the January 9, 2018 meeting. Motion carried by a unanimous voice vote.

RESOLUTION 2-1-18 Resolution Awarding Highway Contract in Excess of $75,000 WHEREAS, County Code Section 1-11-2, entitled COUNTY PURCHASES AND CONTRACTS, provides for review, approval and execution of all county contracts and purchases necessary to carry out approved budget operations; and WHEREAS, Section 1-11-2(A)(4) states: Cost or price in excess of seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000.00), recommendation by the appropriate department head and the supervisory committee to the full County Board and approval by the full Board before the purchase is made. RESOLUTION 2-3-18 NOTICE OF DISALLOWANCE OF NOTICE OF CLAIM Dinyel Walrath and the Estate of Dylan J. Anderson WHEREAS, a Notice of Claim was received on January 11, 2018, in the office of the Green County Clerk; and WHEREAS, said Notice of Claim demands compensation be paid to claimants Dinyel Walrath and the estate of Dylan J. Anderson; and WHEREAS, after review of this matter by the Corporation Counsel’s office and the County’s insurance carrier, said offices recommend that this claim be denied.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Green County Board of Supervisors, in legal session assembled, that the Notice of Claim submitted by Dinyel Walrath and the Estate of Dylan J. Anderson is hereby DENIED AND DISALLOWED and no action on these claims may be brought against Green County or any of its officers, agents, or employees after six (6) months from the date of service of this notice, pursuant to §893.80, Wis. Stats.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Claimants, Dinyel Walrath and the Estate of Dylan J. Anderson via certified mail, return receipt requested, as a notice of disallowance pursuant to §893.80, Wis. Stats.

RESOLUTION 2-4-18 Resolution Adopting “All Hazards Mitigation Plan Revision” WHEREAS, County of Green recognizes the threat that natural and technological hazards pose to people and property; and WHEREAS, undertaking hazard mitigation actions prior to the occurrence of disasters will reduce the potential for harm to people and property and save tax dollars; and WHEREAS, an adopted all hazards mitigation plan is required as a condition of future grant funding for mitigation projects; and WHEREAS, County of Green participated jointly in the planning process with the other units of government within Green County to prepare an All Hazard Mitigation Plan Revision as an official plan.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Green County Board of Supervisors, in legal session assembled, that the Board hereby adopts the Green County All Hazards Plan Revision as an official plan, available for review at the Green County Sheriff or Emergency Management offices or on the Emergency Management website at greencountyem.com; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Green County Emergency Management will submit, on behalf of the participating municipalities, the adopted All Hazards Mitigation Plan Revision and their formal resolutions to adopt the plan, to Wisconsin Emergency Management and Federal Emergency Management Agency officials for final review and approval.

Proceedings of The Green County Board of Supervisors (Continued) WHEREAS, it is essential from the standpoint of the welfare and to the bests interests of the counties and the inhabitants thereof that the railroad service on said line be retained as an active public railroad corridor; and WHEREAS, the Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission has contracted, through the execution of a 50-year operating agreement, with the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad to operate the short-line railroad currently under ownership of the Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT); and WHEREAS, a portion of the rail line currently under ownership of the Commission and its member counties and WisDOT, is located in Green County; and WHEREAS, ever since its creation in 1980, the Commission and its member counties have experienced substantial economic benefits from the continuation of freight rail transportation and from the strong leadership from member counties as well as from local units of governments within the counties; and WHEREAS, in order to represent freight rail shippers and other customers along the rail line in Green County, it is imperative to have strong leadership from the Green County Board; and WHEREAS, a copy of a proposed contract describing the terms of membership of Green County in the Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission is attached hereto and made a part hereof, as Exhibit “A”.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Green County Board of Supervisors in legal session assembled, do hereby authorize the membership of Green County to the Wisconsin River Rail Transit Commission; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Green County Board of Supervisors does hereby accept the proposed contract and authorize the chairman of the Green County Board of Supervisors and the County Clerk of Green County to execute the attached contract on behalf of Green County; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Green County Board of Supervisors does hereby authorize the County Board Chairman to appoint three (3) persons who shall be members of the Green County Board of Supervisors to the Commission to be members of the Commission together with one alternate member. Fury trounces Badger Lightning 12-1 Seeded first going into Regional play, the Fury came out strong tallying nine goals in the first period alone versus eighth-seeded Badger Lightning at Janesville Ice Arena on Feb. 16.

Seven different Fury players lit the lamp. Scoring two goals each were Haley Knauf, Maggy Henschler, Zoie Steig, Presley Kovacevich, and Alyssa Knauf. Defensemen feeding the net for a goal were Dani Heitsman and Anne Runde.

Alyssa Knauf, Anika Einbeck, and Dani Heitsman each earned a playmaker.

The Fury continued to make great passes and plays throughout the game. Both Fury goalies saw action in net with the Fury outshooting their opponent 31-7.

The Fury headed to Sectional Semi-Finals on Tuesday, February 20 at Janesville Ice Arena. Puck drops at 7 p.m. vs. Middleton Coop, the Metro Lynx.

Local Master Gardener Symposium to be held March 10 The Green County Master Gardeners Association (GCMGA) is excited to present their 11th Annual Gardening Symposium. “Garden Inspirations for All Seasons – Straw Bale Gardening; Innovative Gardening Ideas! Try Something New!” will be held on Saturday, March 10 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Peppercorn Banquets at the Ludlow Mansion, 1421 Mansion Drive, Monroe, Wis. Both experienced and novice gardeners are encouraged to attend this public seminar. Participants will receive lunch, refreshments and resource materials with their paid registration.

Obituary PATRICIA BRAUN Patricia “Pat” A. Braun, age 78, of Fall River, WI, formerly of Brodhead, WI, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, February 15, 2018. She was born on December 28, 1939 in Monroe, WI, the daughter of Gerald and Idellis (Thompson) Paulson. She married Elmer J. Braun on November 8, 1968. He passed away on June 27, 2007.

Pat had owned and operated Early Echo’s Antique Store of Brodhead for many years. She also was involved in farm real estate, antique appraisals, and was an avid refinisher of antique furniture. Pat had been very active in the Brodhead community, serving as a volunteer with the Brodhead Historical Society, the Brodhead Chamber of Commerce, was a member of

the Decatur Lake County Club and past secretary. She loved square dancing and had a rich social life.

She is survived by a brother, Ronald (Donna) Paulson, Columbus, WI; a stepson, Ronald (Vivienne) Braun, Brodhead; a stepdaughter, Linda Preston, New Glarus; nephews Alan (Kelly) Paulson, their children, Kyle and Emma; Brian (Tammy) Paulson and their children, Fayth, Zach, Jacky, all of Columbus, WI; and ten step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepdaughter, Nancy Delvis, stepson, Roger Braun, and step-granddaughters, DaniJo Vance and Victoria Braun.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, Brodhead, WI, with Rev. Cal Schaver officiating.
