Obituary

COLLEEN M. ARMSTRONG Colleen M. Armstrong, 79, of Brodhead, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, Wis. She was born on July 2, 1937, in Beloit, Wis., the daughter of William F. and Frances M. (Williams)

The Rock County Land Conservation Department is still taking orders for its yearly tree and shrub sale.

Inventory of trees and shrubs is limited, so order early for best selection.

Trees and shrubs come in singlespecies bundles of 10 for $15.00, 25 for $25.00, or 50 for $45.00, plus tax.

All seedlings are bare root.

Trees come in the following sizes: 18-24” black walnut, bur oak,

hackberry, red oak, sugar maple, and white oak; 12-18” Kentucky coffeetree; 7-15” Colorado blue spruce, Norway spruce, white pine, and white spruce.

Shrubs are 18-24” in American plum, Michigan holly, and nannyberry; and 12-18” in arrowwood viburnum.

Tree protectors (four feet tall) are available again this year, as is Root

Congregational United Church of Christ and the Brodhead Garden Club. She loved all animals -- especially squirrels -- reading, working on puzzles, doing crafts, and going out for breakfast.

She is survived by her significant other, Sue Colstead, Brodhead; two

sisters, Susan (David) Abrahamson, Orfordville, Wis., and Sally (Bill) Hanawalt, Nekoosa, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home in Brodhead, with Rev. David Frey offici-

ating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Beloit, Wis. Visitation will be held from noon on Friday until time of services at the funeral home.

Artist meet-and-greet at the Orfordville Public Library

The Orfordville Public Library, located at 519 E. Beloit Street, has a small area where they like to feature local and area artists.

Currently, well-known and popular Wisconsin artist Connie Glowacki is being featured. To celebrate, the library is having a meet-and-greet event today, Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and everyone is welcomed.

Library director Sarah Strunz noted that this event is a great opportunity to visit with an accom-

plished artist and ask questions about her art and the process she goes through to pick subjects, etc.

Several pieces of her art will be available for purchase, and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to Orfordville Public Library.

Eight Parkview High School band members took part in the Rock Valley Honors Band on Jan. 30 at Jefferson High School. Participants were selected based on ability and dedication with some consideration also given to seniority. Parkview High school was a Viking sports time capsule last Friday night. During halftime of the girls’ varsity basketball game, four individual athletes were honored, along with the 1949-50 football team.

The bleaches were packed to the brim, and the gymnasium erupted in cheers and applause after each inductee’s name was announced over the loudspeaker.

The Athletic Hall of Fame was first erected in 2016 when the new gymnasium was built. This year’s inductees were the second class to be recognized.

Potter was a letter winner in all three sports and a member of two Regional title teams, one Sectional title and three Conference teams in his time with the track and field club. He also won the Individual WIAA State Meet title for the 400-meter dash in 1980.

Potter went on to play football at Milton College.

ACT TEST This year’s juniors will be taking the ACT Test on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The Workkeys portion of the test will be given on Wednesday, March 1. Teachers have been working with students during flex period on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays to prepare them for this important test.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL On Friday, Jan. 20, the Panthers defeated conference rival Argyle 63-35. Juda was led by Keagan Haffele, who scored 26 points with five assists to lead all scorers. Matt Schmitt contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

On Thursday, Jan. 26, Juda defeated another conference rival, Albany, by a score of 44-42. Keagan Haffele scored 18 points, Matt Schmitt added 11 points, and Skyler Stuckey pitched in nine points in the victory.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL On Thursday, Jan. 19, the girls lost to Black Hawk 53-31. Chelsea Burkhalter scored a game-high

11 points. Alexis Goecks had eight points, and Sara Jordan added five points. Erika Duecker had a teamhigh eight rebounds.

On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the girls beat Abundant Life 54-26. Burkhalter scored a game-high 19 points with four three-pointers. Goecks had nine points, and Jordan added eight points. As a team, they were 50 percent from the free-throw line.

FFA National FFA Week is coming up on Feb. 18 to 25.

SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club hosted Juda’s Got Talent on Saturday evening. The funds received are going to the members in order to pay for some of their Dominican Republic trip in the spring.

WRESTLING For the first time in 15 years, Juda hosted a Brodhead-Juda wrestling meet on Thursday, Jan. 26. It was their senior/parent night against the Sugar River Raiders. Juda varsity player Jayson Starr won by forfeit, and Trent Davis won by pin. Brodhead-Juda varsity won 46-27. Juda JV players Brian McCullough and Zach Bennett both won by pins.

They wrestled at Deerfield this past weekend.

REC DISTRICT A Teen Bowling Night is being planned. Please watch for more information as things become finalized.

JUDA ELEMENTARY All elementary students have started the St. Jude Mathathon and Pennies for Patients fundraisers. The first-graders are going on a field trip Feb. 13 to see Pete the Cat. Keep watching for more information.

JFAB The will be a meeting Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

ART DEPARTMENT The kindergarten is working on a painting with items other than traditional painting items. The first grade is working on a clay project.

The second grade is working on their watercolor. The third grade is working on a mask project. The fourth grade is working on their tessellation project. The fifth grade is working on their Chihuly project. The seventh grade is working on their still life project. The high

schoolers have just started their furniture project. The furniture will be available for purchase through a private auction.

ROLLER SKATING The Monroe Morning Optimists invite all third- through fifth-grade students to a roller skating party on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Roller Den in Monroe. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. Entry is free.

Each student will also receive one treat ticket.

LUNCH On Thursday, Feb. 2, breakfast will be breakfast bar; lunch will be spaghetti, meatballs, garlic bread, and apple juice.

Green County Board Updates COUNTY BOARD SUPERVISOR

Beside the CAFO issue, all seems pretty quiet on the county board front.

The January county board meeting was cancelled due to lack of business.

None of the committees on which I serve met this month, and in talking with our county conservationist, I found out that the Land and Water Conservation committee will not be

meeting in February. Things seem to be slowing down during these winter days right now.

The Government Services Building Committee is meeting on Feb. 2 at 9 a.m. if you are interested in how that project is progressing. They will be meeting at the Green County Courthouse in the first-floor conference room.

I received a number of emails

and phone calls after my last article in which I talked about the proposed mega dairy. Thank you, everyone who called and emailed. I have made several phone calls to our county conservationist, the DNR, and other agencies asking questions. The main concerns of the Green County residents with whom I spoke are economic issues, water concerns, and manure spreading.

Trailblazers donate to Monroe FFA

I spent some time looking at the easements that were filed at the county Register of Deeds. These are the parcels that have been contracted to take manure from the CAFO if it proceeds.

There are many parcels across Green County and several in both Rock and Lafayette counties. Areas that seem to have a high concentration of parcels taking manure are Albany, Decatur, and Mt. Pleasant, although there are

Also, I have been keeping up with other counties that are struggling with the appropriate siting of CAFOs and CAFO issues: Bayfield, St. Croix, and Kewaunee. Operations this size can have such an enormous impact; it is important to know what other counties are experiencing. Our county conservationist, his team and the Land and Water Conservation Committee are working diligently on this issue.

The Parkview Vikings (4-11 overall, 2-8 Rock Valley) fell to the McFarland Spartans 70-34 in a Rock Valley crossover matchup last Tuesday.

McFarland raced out to a commanding 47-20 halftime lead and never let up.

Sophomore Kristine Mumm led the Vikings’ offensive attack with 10 points. Junior Amber Hudson added seven points for the Vikings. Senior Alex Thole and senior McKenzie Saglie each chipped in five points.

Vikings fall to Clinton

The Parkview Vikings (4-12 overall, 2-9 Rock Valley) fell to the Clinton Cougars 67-53 in a Rock Valley south matchup last Friday.

Local school bus drivers complete specialized driver training

Every driver has driven his or her vehicle in some type of skid at one point during the driving experience. Whether it was to stop the vehicle quickly, swerving to avoid a hazard, or losing of control on slippery a surface, the situation was serious.

Many drivers overrate their abilities and often underestimate the capabilities of the vehicle they are driving. This combination often results in serious crashes simply because the driver is making decisions based on incomplete data.

Recently, a team of professional school bus drivers from the Brodhead team of Kobussen Buses, Ltd., traveled to Appleton for specialized training, which simulated a variety of emergency situations.

Those making the trek included: Keegan Lee (Brodhead), Peggy Rieff (Brodhead), Cathy Kwasneski (Brodhead), Jim Schilz (Monroe), Josh Martin (Janesville), Al Barry (Avon), Shawn Harriel (Janesville), and Rodney Davis (Janesville).

This hands-on experience affords the driver an opportunity to make better decisions when confronted with an actual emergency associated with everyday driving activities, thus minimizing the devastating results associated with accidents or avoiding the occurrence completely.

The course—Decision Driving conducted by Fox Valley Technical College—included both time behind the wheel and an in-classroom session. “The behind-thewheel part of the program starts on the skid pad, which simulates

a slick driving surface that gives you experience in pre-accident conditions,” Joe Kobussen said.

“In one exercise, you start by going around in a circle, increasing your speed until the bus starts sliding. In another, you drive straight ahead to test your reaction time.

There’s also one in which they hit the brakes and you have to pull out of the skid and re-gain control.”

“On the skid pad, you quickly learn that there are many aspects of driving that you’re unaware of,” Brad Plamann, a Fox Valley Technical College driving instructor, said. “And, it definitely shows the limitations of your vehicle. I’ve heard many students report that what they learned through skid pad training could have prevented catastrophes on the road.”

For Kobussen Buses, the program has been very effective at reducing not just the number of accidents, but also the severity of accidents. “My brother and I have both been through the course and believe every driver should take it,” Kobussen said. “It’s not required by law, but we insist on it because we firmly believe that it makes our employees better drivers.”

Kobussen terminal manager Drew Burns heartily agrees. “Every student who takes driver education should take this course,” he said. “It changes the way you drive. You’re suddenly very aware of road conditions and pay more attention to all the cars around you.

Everything I learned in the course I apply every time I get behind the wheel—even in my own car.”

Green County Sheriff’s Report All charges reported here are merely accusations. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Sheriff’s deputies reported the following incidents occurred.

Motor vehicle crash At 11:39 p.m. deputies and the New Glarus Police Department responded to the North 9000 block of Christen Road in the Township of Exeter for a one-vehicle rollover crash. An investigation revealed that Griffin G. Frisch, 18, of Belleville, was northbound on Christen Road when he drifted onto the shoulder, striking a snowbank, which caused his vehicle to cross the centerline and enter the west ditch line and overturn. The vehicle sustained severe damage, and the airbags deployed. Frisch was not injured, nor was he trapped or requiring extrication. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Narcotics At 9:38 p.m., deputies located an occupied vehicle in the ditch on State Highway 69 north of Hefty Road in the Town of New Glarus.

Danielle J. Donohue, 25, of Verona claimed that she swerved for an animal in the roadway. Donohue was not injured and reported wearing her seatbelt. There was no airbag deployment. The vehicle sustained a flat tire and was towed from the ditch. An investigation resulted in Donohue being arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug

Motor vehicle crash At 10:44 a.m., deputies were called to a motor vehicle crash on State Highway 81 at State Highway 11 (Argyle Interchange) in the Town of Monroe. Daniel W. Nipple, 43, of Monroe, was operating a semi southbound on State Highway 81. Robert Bagley, 86, of Durand, had failed to yield the right away from the westbound stop sign for State Highway 11/81 and turned southbound in front of Nipple. Bagley’s vehicle sideswiped the semi, causing minor damage to the tire of the trailer. Bagley’s vehicle sustained moderate passenger side damage. All drivers and occupants reported wearing seatbelts and were uninjured. There was no airbag deployment. All vehicles were driven from the scene.

Motor vehicle crash

At 6:40 a.m., deputies responded to the North 7700 block of State Highway 104 in the Town of Brooklyn for a single-vehicle crash. Amanda J. Bjugstad, 42, of Evansville, was southbound when she lost control of her vehicle and entered the ditch, where she struck a fence post. Bjugstad was not injured in the crash and reported wearing her seatbelt. The airbags did not deploy. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

Motor vehicle crash At 7:28 a.m., deputies responded to the West 500 block of Dunphy Road in the Town of Albany for a rollover crash. Reggie W. Brewer, 38, of Albany, was eastbound when he lost control and entered the ditch, where his truck overturned. Brewer was not injured in the crash and was wearing his seatbelt. The airbags did not deploy. The truck sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

Hannah E. Chugg, 23, of Monroe, was traveling south on County Highway N when she lost control of her vehicle. Chugg entered the ditch, where she collided with a stop sign. Chugg was not injured and was wearing her seatbelt. The airbags did not deploy in the vehicle. The vehicle did not sustain any damage. A tow company removed her vehicle from the ditch, and it was driven from the scene.

At 10:15 p.m., deputies responded to the North 2500 block of County Highway GG in the Town of Spring Grove for a onevehicle crash. Kelly E. Green, 55, of Monroe, was traveling south on County Highway GG when he lost control on the snow/ice-covered roadway. Green’s vehicle entered the ditch, where it struck a mailbox and a tree. Green advised he was not injured and was wearing his seatbelt. There was no airbag deployment in the vehicle. The vehicle sustained moderate frontend damage and was towed from the scene.

Belanus, 70, of Brooklyn, was traveling south on County Highway D approaching the intersection at County Highway C and went through the intersection due to the snow-covered road surface and struck the ditch. Belanus reported that he was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. The vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage, and the airbags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Crash with injuries At 5:57 p.m., deputies, the Brodhead Police Department, Brodhead EMS, and Brodhead Fire responded to the area of County Highway E and St. John Road in the Township of Decatur for a single-vehicle crash with injuries. An investigation revealed that Christy J. Jaggi, 58, of Brodhead, was westbound on St. John Rd when she failed to negotiate the curve onto County Highway E and entered the ditch, which was filled with water.

During the crash, a traffic sign was broken off. The vehicle sustained minor damage, and Jaggi received non-life threatening injuries. The vehicle had leaked a minor amount of antifreeze into the water-filled ditch, at which time the Green County conservation warden was contacted and responded later. No airbags deployed during the crash, and no entrapment or extrication occurred. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Jaggi was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.

Tipplet entered the ditch, where he struck a guard wire on a utility pole. Tipplet was wearing his seatbelt, and the milk truck was not equipped with airbags. Tipplet was not injured in the crash. The milk truck sustained minor damage and was towed out of the ditch.

Motor vehicle crash At 1:44 p.m., deputies located a vehicle in the West 3300 block of County Highway EE in the Town of Mt. Pleasant, that appeared to have damage when it went into the ditch. The driver was identified as Shaliko S. Harry, 19, of Monticello. Harry was traveling east on County Highway EE when she lost control of the vehicle and went into the ditch. Harry was not injured in the crash and was wearing her seatbelt. The airbags did

Green County Coyote Hunters Club donates to 4-H Shooting Sports

Green County 4-H Shooting Sports recently received a donation from the Green County Coyote Hunters Club to help support 4-H shooting sports programs.

The Green County Coyote Hunters Club has a mission to control predator populations by hunting coyotes and fox with the aid of dogs; to promote safety, fellowship, and good sportsmanship; and to cooperate with other organizations that share these objectives.

The Green County Coyote Hunters Club donated the funds to support the youth education 4-H provides through the 4-H Shooting Sports programs.

Green County 4-H Shooting Sports offers workshops in the disciplines of shotgun, air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, .22 pistol, muzzle loading, and archery. Youth learn about the safe and responsible use of firearms and archery equipment, along with the concepts and issues of wildlife ecology, natural resource management, and ethical behavior.

Donations are used to offset workshop costs to keep youth participation fees at a lower rate.

If you are interested in learning how to better manage your lawn, trees, shrubs, or garden and share your gained knowledge with others, you may want to register for the UW-Extension Master Gardener Level One training that will be offered in Monroe later

In exchange for this instruction, participants are required to volunteer a minimum of 24 hours of volunteer service as a resource for horticulture inquiries in their community. This can be done through the UW-Extension Office in Green County or through many of the community projects done by the Green County Master Gardeners Association.

The cost to attend the 12-week program is $150 per person. This fee includes a binder with University of Wisconsin Horticulture Publications, a Master Gardener Handbook, and admission to the Green County Master Gardeners Gardening Symposium on March 11.A limited number of scholarships are available to help pay a portion of the cost for those who qualify.

The program is open to anyone18 years of age or older. Registrations must be received by Feb. 9at the Green County UW-Extension Office. A minimum number of participants is required to run the classes.

A week ago, I went to an inaugural public meeting in a Beloit congregation. The gathering was organized for the purpose of discussing and promoting to the Beloit City Council the possibility of the creation of a (yet to be determined) form of an identification card (a photo ID) that would be used strictly and only for the citizens of the City of Beloit. I was invited to attend by another clergyperson. We met in the church basement dining room.

When we arrived early, there were very few people present. At one table sat a group of young people who we later learned were Beloit College students.

Another table had about a half dozen women of various ages and backgrounds. One of the women came to where we had been seated and introduced herself to us. She identified herself as a leader from the

Beloit city council. There to show her support for the proposal to get citizens of Beloit to sign a petition, she would be suggesting to the Beloit city council that they allow this action group to continue studying and planning for how a Beloit city ID might be established, how it might be of benefit, how it would be implemented and maintained, and what it could and could not be used to do.

There would be a fee to the user to cover the cost associated with the ID. Sorry, I am getting ahead of myself. First, there is a citizen’s petition being passed around in Beloit to be signed by ONLY Beloit city citizens.

When there are five hundred signatures collected, the petition will go before the Beloit City Council. The petition requests the council allow there to be further investigation and consideration for the possible use of a Beloit City photo ID. The council woman present said initial conversations with the Beloit Police Depart-

ment were favorable toward the concept.

Across the tables of the hall as it filled were multiple generations of family. A few families attending included grandparents, parents, and children of elementary school age.

As the crowd continued to gather, they nearly filled all of the seats at each table.

As the meeting was about to begin, I noticed that the variety of ages now stretched from the age of infants to a few folks who were likely in their seventies.

The wide range of dress that people wore suggested people came from different economic statuses, from different employment statuses, from different educational backgrounds, and from different cultural backgrounds.

A small number of those in the meeting were Hispanic. The remainder appeared to be Midwesterners, Black and White.

Tractor, machinery safety courses beginning in March The 2017 Green County Tractor and Machinery Safety Certification Course will begin in March.

Wisconsin Law states that “No person may direct or permit a child under age 16 years to operate a farm tractor/self-propelled implement of husbandry on the highway unless the child has been certified as successfully completing a tractor and machinery operation safety course.”

The Federal Child Labor Regulations state that “it is unlawful to hire or even permit without pay any youth under age 16 to participate in any work activities listed as hazardous, unless: 1.) The youth is working on a farm owned and operated by a youth’s parent; or 2.) The youth has a training certificate which provides an exemption from certain hazardous work activities.”

The 2017 course schedule is as follows: *Monday, March 13, 6:30 to 9 p.m., split between Hennessey Implement and the Green County Justice Center; *Tuesday, March 14, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Albany High School; *Saturday, March 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Argyle High School; *Tuesday, March 28, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at New Glarus High School; *Monday, Apr. 3, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at MERIT

Center in Monroe; *Saturday, Apr. 8, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Juda Community Center; *Tuesday, Apr. 18, 4 p.m. to 7 at the Green County Fairgrounds; *Wednesday, Apr. 19, 4 p.m. to 7 at the Green County Fairgrounds; and *Thursday, Apr. 20, 4 p.m. to 7 at the Green County Fairgrounds.

Please note that this is a 24-hour state and federal course, and participation in all 24 hours is required. A parent or guardian is required to attend the first session with the child. Some sessions will be held outdoors, so please dress accordingly.

Class size is limited to 20 participants. First priority will be given to residents in Green County ages 14 and up. Registrations will be taken on a first paid-first served basis.

The cost is $35 for Green County youth and $45 for out-of-county youth. Please make checks payable to Green County UWEX. Fees cover the cost of student manuals, equipment use, and insurance.

sentation. They represented the local Beloit council that is interconnected with an association of over 1,000 local Latino action councils. The group represents itself in a growing number of cities throughout the United States. The national organization is called LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens), and LULAC’s webpage (lulac.org) claims it is the largest and oldest Hispanic organization in the United States. The primary actions and the control of the Beloit LULAC council is at the local level.

For me, there were fascinating things I learned about myself from that event. I was reminded of all the sweat and anxiety I had back in those high school classes. I still occasionally stumble into a reward for struggling through that class. The payoff this time came when the women leaders in the LULAC meeting first spoke in one language and then repeated what they just said in the second language.

From the far recesses of my nearly fifty-year-old brain came the connections of words and phrases of Spanish that flashed to life again. There might have been smoke drifting out of my ears from those grinding gears and ancient cobwebs in my head.

I also reconnected with the really deep bond I have with my baby sister. She came into our family as an infant, during the same time I was trying to learn high school Spanish. Her biological parents were Puerto Rican and White. Now she has mostly adult

WILLIAM E. WELCH W i l l i a m E. Welch, 71, of Brodhead, passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at his home. He was born on July 15, 1945, in Monroe, Wis., the son of Harry and Elsie (Leopold) Welch. He married Susan Kay Fell on July 14, 1990, at the United Methodist Church, Brodhead. She passed away on May 30, 2014.

Bill graduated from Brodhead High School in 1963. He had worked for General Motors of Janesville, retiring in 2000. Bill had also worked for the Ayres Chevrolet, Buick, and Pontiac dealership of Brodhead for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Optimists Club, and he served on the Greenwood Cemetery Board of Directors. He also had served on the Brodhead EMS and Brodhead Fire Department.

Bill was an avid car enthusiast, and he enjoyed traveling to northern Wisconsin.

He is survived by three sisters, Mary Ann Egger, Janesville; Darlene Swain, Middleburg, Fla.; Barbara Bowling Hufford, Clearwater, Fla; three nieces, Sandy (Mike) Sheafor and Michelle Pleyte, Edgerton, Wis.; and Aimi Bowling, St. Petersburg, Fla.; three great-nieces, Dazia and Da’Monique Harris, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Ashlyn Sheafor, Brodhead; and a great-nephew, Aaron Sheafor, Brodhead. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Sue. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home in Brodhead, with Pastor Krystal

I love them dearly. Their lives are significantly different than mine.

The meeting also reminded me of uncomfortable things in my life and my nuclear family’s lives. Early in the LULAC meeting, this question was asked of everyone: “When was the last time you had to use your photo ID?” As people in the crowd described over and over their recent experiences, I was scrambling to think of my last time. Nothing instantly came to mind. Eventually, I remembered I needed my photo ID at the airport for the last time we flew. Over a week later, I recalled using my ID to vote and then when I test drove a new (to us) vehicle.

My skin color, the way I dress, my receding and thinning hair offer me privileges in our society. I am grateful for that. But I have watched and been furious when my sister’s -- and her children’s -- skin color and their hair and the way they dress have prevented them from receiving the privileges I receive -- privileges that I take for granted. Such seemingly small privileges, like not having to worry about constantly needing to use my photo ID, should be made available more equally. It’s a tiny start toward more equality and more justice in our society.

He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8).

LORETTA M. WOLFE Loretta M. Wolfe, 90, of Brodhead, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe, Wis. She was born on Dec. 19, 1926, in Beloit, Wis., the daughter of Dell and Sara (Rylett) Kline. She married A. “Duane” Wolfe on Sept. 21, 1943, in Rockford, Ill. He passed away on June 14, 2015.

Loretta was a waitress in several of the local restaurants and was an inhome caregiver in the Brodhead area.

She loved flower gardening, crocheting, reading, and especially her family.

She is survived by her children, Don (Carol) Wolfe, Albany, Wis., Larry (Sue) Wolfe, JoAnne Osbaugh, Christy (Steve) Foslin, all of Brodhead; several grandchildren; greatgrandchildren; and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Janice Fosnow, two grandchildren, Jess and Cherrel Lea Osbaugh, four brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 27, at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home in Brodhead, with Pastor Peder Johanson officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead.

Visitation was held from 10:30 a.m. on Friday until the time of services at the funeral home.
