School districts will see increase in per pupil spending Governor designates $110 million in federal funds toward education Last week school districts throughout the state got news that they would see an additional $133.72 increase in per pupil funding from federal Coronavirus Relief Funds, amounting to $110 million in new, additional funding toward Wisconsin education. “Our kids and schools have faced unprecedented challenges during the coronavirus pandemic—from distance learning to reducing class sizes, to spending money that had been budgeted for pencils on PPE,” Gov. Tony Evers stated in the Dec. 2 press release. “This $110 million investment is an opportunity for schools to invest directly into programming to help students both in and out of the classroom, allowing schools to hire additional educators and staff, provide more educational and extracurricular opportunities, invest
in mental health supports, buy art supplies or computers, or keep the lights on—whatever they need and, most importantly, whatever our kids need. I’ve always said what’s best for our kids is what’s best for our state, and these funds will go a long way toward helping ensure our kids get the services and resources they need to rebound and recover.”

Sing along Saturday RCHS selected for national preservation program The Rock County Historical Society (RCHS) is one of only a few institutions in the United States that has been selected to participate in the Collections Assessment for Preservation (CAP) program. CAP helps museums to improve the care of their collections by providing support for a general conservation assessment of the museum’s collections and buildings. RCHS staff will work with a team of preservation professionals throughout 2023 to identify preventive conservation priorities. The final assessment report will help the museum to prioritize its collections care efforts in the coming years. “It is a tremendous honor to be selected as a recipient of the CAP grant,” said Cara Kinzelman, Ph.D., assistant director and curator for RCHS. “This grant will enable RCHS to host world-class preservation professionals who will assess current collections management protocols, storage and display environments, and the architectural integrity of the Lincoln-Tallman House and the Archives and Preservation Center.” Kinzelman, who was instrumental in RCHS receiving the CAP grant, said the preservation professionals’ recommendations will form a roadmap for RCHS to follow in upcoming years. “This project will help us to ensure that the priceless collections in our care are appropriately preserved for future generations,” Kinzelman said. “The preservation professionals’ recommendations
will also serve as a high-value foundation for future efforts to secure additional grant funding to address identified needs. Participation in the CAP program is an important step in the professionalization of collections management at RCHS, and represents continued progress in the implementation of our strategic plan.” The CAP program is administered by the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Caroling Connection closes MAC’s annual holiday auction
The Monroe Arts Center will present The Caroling Connection on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall, 1315 11th St., Monroe. The Caroling Connection was created in 2016 by founder and head voice Jim Goodrich as a way to spread Christmas cheer.
Each year the ensemble continues to grow, as handpicked performers are chosen to become part of the holiday ensemble. The performance will wrap up MAC’s 24th annual Holiday Silent Auction. In the meantime, the auction remains open with more than 160 items available for
bidding. The auction can be accessed online at 32auctions. com/monroeartscenter. Auction items can still be viewed in-person at the Monroe Arts Center during regular business hours. Auction categories this year include original art and handcrafted items; holiday
