Parkview boys split games with Whitewater, Madison Country Day By Trenten Scheidegger CORRESPONDENT
The Parkview Vikings have gotten off to a 2-5 start to their 2023-2024 varsity boys’ basketball season. After getting an 81-70 victory over Monticello in their season opener, the Vikings went on to drop four straight, including losses to Abundant Life, Poynette, and Clinton. On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Parkview’s fourth consecutive loss came in a tough matchup against the Whitewater Whippets. Not only were the Vikings riding a three-game skid ahead of the matchup, but they were on the road as Whitewater had the home court advantage. It didn’t take long for Whitewater to jump out to an advantage. An early Parkview
turnover allowed the Whippets to gain a 10-3 advantage. A quick three-pointer put the Whippets up by double figures as they went up 13-3, forcing a Parkview timeout. Midway through the first, the Vikings found themselves trailing 19-10. That’s when Aiden Crane sunk a deep three-pointer to give the Vikings some momentum. On the ensuing possession, Crane made a quick steal and finished it off with a layup at the other end. Crane was fouled on the play and, eventually, sunk his and-one shot after a Whitewater timeout. Quickly, Crane and the Vikings found themselves within three. That’s as close as things would get, however, as Whitewater controlled the rest of the half. By the break, the Vikings
found themselves trailing 4227. The second half was much of the same. The Vikings struggled to put up points on a night where they hit just thirty-five percent of their shots. Crane led the team in scoring with sixteen, while Jaxon Cronin was the only other Viking in double figures with eleven. Karson Redman and Mike Williams each had eight as Parkview fell to Whitewater 74-56. Redman had a near double-double performance as he led the team with ten rebounds. Two days later, the Vikings were back on the road. After four straight losses, they were also traveling for their third consecutive road game. On Dec. 7, they were set to face
