Scouts, Firemen team up in food drive

Orfordville Boy Scouts and the Orfordville Fire Department spearheaded a food drive last week in Orfordville. A collaboration between 29 children and 19 firemen helped collect food, and a special thank The Juda Booster Club held its 4th annual craft show at the Juda you to them for being out in the cold last night. Let God Find You

This is the time of year when we celebrate the Son of God born into the world. But did you know that there is another person in the Bible who is also called the son of God? The Gospel of Luke traces the genealogy of Jesus backwards, through the entire history of the Old Testament, until he gets to Adam whom he calls the son of God. He called Adam God’s son because Adam had no human parents. Formed from the soil of the earth, God animated him with the Holy Spirit to give Adam life.

Thousands of years later, the Holy Spirit came upon Mary and Jesus was miraculously conceived.

In his letter to the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul called Adam the “first Adam,” and Jesus, “the last Adam” (1 Cor 15:45).

The first Adam introduced sin into the world and with it, a curse. The last Adam brought redemption and forgiveness into the world and broke that curse by living a sinless life and offering that life on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of humanity.

“Adam” is more than just a proper name. The Hebrew word adam means man, or mankind. Whenever the Hebrew Old Testament refers to Adam, it could also be translated, “the Man.” Paul uses this play on words when, in the same letter, he calls Adam the “first COURTESY PHOTO Brodhead Independent-Register man” and Jesus the “second man.” The first man, Paul says, is from the earth, but the second is from heaven (1 Cor 15:47).

usual means of human conception. He is the second pure Man. He maintained that perfection and, astoundingly, offers to make perfect all who believe in Him and give themselves to His lordship.

Jesus came to correct the problem Adam caused—broken relationship with God. When Adam sinned, he immediately knew he was wrong and for the first time in history, a human experienced shame.

He was ashamed because of what he did; he was ashamed because of how he looked (naked). So he hid from God. But God, in his relentless pursuit of the people he loves, looks for Adam calling, “Where are you?” (even though he knew where Adam was).

This passage could also be translated: “God called to mankind saying, ‘Where are you?’”

If we’re honest with ourselves, we all

know that we are sinners. We have in some way, whether large or small, violated God’s standard of perfection. Like Adam, we run from God and hide our shame from each other.

But God, in his relentless pursuit of the people he loves, looks for us calling, “Where are you?” He knows where we are, but he looks and calls, waiting for our response.

Charles Wesley put it this way in “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Adam’s likeness now efface: Stamp Thine image in its place; Second Adam, from above, reinstate us in Thy love.

Hark! The herald angels sing glory to the new-born King!”

Jesus is not a baby in a manger anymore. He is the Risen King who pursues us to “reinstate us in his love.”

Item number 22 on the agenda was moved up, and Sheriff Mark Rohloff presented the following department employees with awards: Deputy Tanner Gilbert, Deputy Danielle Jackson and Deputy Adam Bass.

Chris Narveson, Highway Commissioner, gave a presentation on the status of the county’s roads, bridges and structures.

Todd Jenson, County Conservationist, gave an update on the Pinnacle Dairy site.

GIRLS BASKETBALL Edgerton The Cardinals (4-4 overall, 2-4 Rock Valley) picked up their second straight Rock Valley victory 69-55 over Edgerton last Tuesday.

Brodhead jumped out to a huge 3716 halftime advantage. Senior Erin Nyhus led the Cardinals’ offense with 22 including 14 in the opening half. Senior Brooke Bescup contributed 14 points with nine coming in the second half. Junior Alexis Oliver chipped in all of her 10 points in the first half in a well-balanced Cardinals’ attack.

Madison The Vikings earned their first victory in 2017-18 last Tuesday.

Parkview (1-5 overall, 1-0 Trailways South) walked away with a 66-23 Trailways South win over Madison Country Day. The Vikings built a 38-10 halftime lead and never looked back. Parkview had three players in double figures led by sophomore Taylor Burrell, who poured in 14 points. Junior Kristine Mumm chipped in 12 points in the contest.

Junior Alexys Olson added 10 points for the Vikings.

Deerfield The winning ways continued as the Vikings (2-5 overall, 2-0 Trailways South) won their second straight conferree battle 41-28 over Deerfield last Friday.

The first half was a back and forth contest as Parkview took a slim 16-14 lead into the locker room. Parkview dominated the second half outscoring Deerfield 25-14 to cruise to the win. Senior Amber Hudson paced the Vikings’ offensive charge with 15 points. Junior Kristine Mumm added 10 points and junior Hunter Baars contributed nine points.

Cassville The Albany Comets (3-5 overall, 1-0 Six Rivers) picked up a thrilling non-conference comeback win 61-56 over Cassville last Monday.

Cassville led for the majority of the game. The Comets first lead 5453 didn’t come until 1:30 left in regulation. Cassville came right back down and drilled a three to go up 56-54 with a minute on the clock.

Senior Brook Kahler then buried the game-winning three-pointer with 36 seconds to go to put the comets up 57-56. Junior Payton Zurfluh went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to seal the win. Zurfluh paced the Comets’ offense with 23 points including 14 in the second half. Junior Sydney Mortaloni chipped in nine points and Kahler contributed seven points all coming in the second half.

Argyle The Argyle Orioles beat Albany (3-6 overall, 1-1 Six Rivers) 65-32 in

a Six Rivers eastern division showdown last Thursday. Argyle’s suffocating press generated several turnovers that resulted in easy transition baskets during the contest. Argyle knocked down five tree-pointers in the first half and took a commanding 34-12 lead at the half. Sophomore Kristin O’Bel led the the Comets’ offense with a team-high 12 points.

Juda The Juda Panthers dropped a 6460 Six Rivers eastern division contest to Benton last Monday. Benton raced out to a double-digit halftime lead 31-21. Junior Hannah Powers and sophomore Montana Steinmann each had 11 points to lead the Panthers. Senior Mackenzie Byrne contributed seven points in the contest for Juda.

BOYS BASKETBALL Madison The Parkview Vikings (5-1 overall, 2-0 Trailways South) remained undefeated in Trailways South play with a 81-50 victory over Madison Country Day last Monday. After slow start, Parkview’s strong defense and aggressive transition game fueled the Vikings. Parkview took a commanding 42-19 halftime lead. Junior Justin Balch sparked the half-court offense as he drilled three consecutive three-pointers. Balch led the Vikings’ offensive charge with 28 points including six three-pointers. Junior Adrian Meza chipped in 14 points and senior Riley Carroll contributed 13 points in the contest.

Parkview knocked down 12 threes to propel them to the victory.

Albany The Panthers (2-2 overall, 2-1 Six Rivers) recorded their second straight win 69-53 over the Albany Comets (2-4 overall, 1-2 Six Rivers) in a Six Rivers eastern division showdown last Tuesday.

Juda jumped out to a 36-24 halftime lead behind six threes. Panthers’ senior Cole Fortney paced the offense with 26 points with 15 coming in the first half. Senior Keagen Haffele contributed 17 points including three three-pointers. Junior Quinton Kammerer chipped in 11 points on three long balls. Comets’ junior Jamison Stauffacher and junior Corbin Kelley each led the offensive charge with 16 points. Junior Josh Dahl contributed 11 points in the contest.

THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNITY OF ALBANY The Albany Women’s League/Empty Stocking 2017 had a successful year due to the generous donations from the Albany Community, The Albany Lions and The Albany Thrift Store. We also acknowledge the fantastic food drive conducted by the Albany FFA and the Jolly Mixer 4-H Club.

Thank you to the Albany school janitorial staff and the FFA for collecting, sorting and providing space for the food items brought into the surrounding school by students. This enabled families to shop for groceries needed in their homes.

The Empty Stocking Project through monetary donations provides children in the Albany area with much needed coats, boots, and clothing. Items are purchased by members of the Albany Women’s League.

Thank you to those who gave warm coats to adults in the Albany area. They were much appreciated.

The Giving Tree is actually the third phase of this program that provides gifts from the children’s wish list.

Busy meeting marks end of 2017 for county board

December is a busy month. All county board seats are up for election and re-election; not all current supervisors are seeking re-election.

If you are interested in running for the board to represent your district, contact the County Clerk’s office.

All you need to do is fill out a few forms and get 20 nomination signatures. Those nomination signatures are due back to the clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The election is Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

The county board meeting held last Tuesday, Dec. 12, was an example of how busy things are right now. We had quite a lengthy agenda, and got quite a bit of work done.

The highlights of the meeting, for me, were the awards presented to three deputies of the Green County Sheriff’s Office for exemplary service. What an honor to have these fine men and women protecting and serving Green County; they received a standing ovation from all present.

There were two presentations: one by the County Highway Commissioner, Chris Narveson, updating us on the county highways and what issues we are facing with funding and repairs; and one by the County Conservationist, Todd Jenson, updating us on the Pinnacle Dairy project.

Pinnacle has not met all of the conditions set forth by the county yet. On Thursday, Dec. 14, Pinnacle Dairy, Green County, the DNR and DATCP were scheduled to meet to discuss how to move forward.

All resolutions and ordinances considered at the meeting passed, including: transferring delinquent tax certificates so they can be collected, approving liability and worker’s compensation insurance contracts, authorizing conservation grant applications, increasing wages for employees, authorizing a county referendum for a constitutional amendment, authorizing a Human Services DOT grant application, approving Human Services contracts, authorizing a financial software contract, modification to zoning regulations, and modifications to zoning or land use ordinances relat-

ing to driveways. We also discussed and took action on law enforcement labor contract.

Due to the referendum for a constitutional amendment, which passed by a 15 to 14 roll call vote, there will be a referendum on the April 3, 2018, ballot asking you to vote for or against Green County’s support of a passage of an amendment to the United States Constitution stating that “only human beings - not corporations, unions, nonprofits or other legal entities - are endowed with constitutional rights, AND money is not speech, and therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech.”

If you are against large corporate interests in politics, vote yes on this referendum; if you prefer that corporate interests speak for you politically, vote no.

I am happy to relay that committee meeting minutes will be posted on the Green County website now.

These have not been posted in the past, and unless you attended the actual committee meeting, it was very difficult to know what happened at the meetings. Now, it will be easy to look up what was discussed and what actions were taken. The only caveat is that the committees will need to submit their minutes to be posted, and since this is a new procedure it may take a while to become routine.

The hydrogeologic study is nearing completion and the date for the presentation of the information has been set. It will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. in the lower level multipurpose rooms of the Justice Center. It is open to the public. If you are unable to attend, it will be videotaped and available to be viewed online. I will post another reminder closer to the date.

RESOLUTION 12-6-17 Resolution Authorizing Human Services DOT Grant Application WHEREAS, Section 85.21 of the Wisconsin Statutes authorizes the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to make grants to the counties of Wisconsin for the purpose of assisting them in providing specialized transportation services to the elderly and disabled; and WHEREAS, each grant must be matched and with a local share of not less than 20 percent of each county’s allocation; and WHEREAS, Green County’s allocation of state aids for 2018 is $94,432.00 (Ninety-four thousand, four hundred thirty-two dollars), thus requiring a minimum local share of at least $18,886.32 (Eighteen thousand, eight hundred eightysix dollars and thirty-two cents); and WHEREAS, Green County believes the provision of specialized transportation services would improve and promote the maintenance of human dignity and self-sufficiency of the elderly and disabled.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Green County Board of Supervisors, in legal session assembled, that the Board authorize the Green County Department of Human Services to prepare and submit to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation an application for assistance during 2018 under Section 85.21 of the Wisconsin Statutes, in conformance with the requirements issued by the Department and also authorize the obligation of at least $18,886.32 (Eighteen thousand, eight hundred eighty-six dollars and thirty-two cents) in county funds in order to provide the required local match; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Green County Board of Supervisors authorizes the Chair and Director of Human Services to execute a state aid contract with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation under Section 85.21 of the Wisconsin Statutes on behalf of Green County, effective January 1, 2018.

Investigate cases of noncompliance with this ordinance, ch. NR 812, Wis. Adm. Code, and §280, Wis. Stats., issue orders to abate the noncompliance and submit violations to the District Attorney or Corporation Counsel for enforcement.

9-3-13: VIOLATIONS The administrator shall investigate violations of the Private Water System Ordinance and ch. NR 812, Wis. Adm. Code, relating to the County’s authorized delegation level(s), issue orders to abate the violations and submit orders to the District Attorney or Corporation Counsel for enforcement.

9-3-14-3: CORRECTION ORDER H. A statement that, if the order is not complied with, the administrator will refer the violation to the District Attorney or Corporation Counsel with a recommendation to seek injunctive relief and/or forfeitures from the Circuit Court of Green County. Orders must be signed by the administrator of the private water system ordinance.

9-4-6: ADMINISTRATION E. Enforcement Authority: The Department of Land and Water Conservation is authorized to post an order stopping work upon land which has had a permit revoked or on land in violation of this Chapter. Notice is given by both posting upon the land where the violation occurs one or more copies of a poster stating the violation, and by mailing a copy of the order by certified mail, return receipt requested, to the person whose activity is in violation of this Chapter. The order shall specify that the activity must cease immediately and be brought into compliance within five (5) working days.

Any permit revocation or order stopping work shall remain in effect unless retracted by the Department of Land and Water Conservation, or until the activity is brought into compliance with this Chapter. The Department of Land and Water Conservation is authorized to refer any violation of this Chapter or of any order stopping work issued pursuant to this Chapter to the District Attorney Corporation Counsel for commencement of further legal proceedings. ORDINANCE 17-1202 Creation of Green County Wind Energy System Siting Ordinance This ordinance was referred back to committee, and was removed from the agenda.

ORDINANCE 17-1203 Modification to Zoning or Land Use Ordinances Relating to Driveways WHEREAS, the Green County Land Use and Zoning Committee has general supervision over administration of the County Zoning Regulations; and WHEREAS, after review of the Green County Code, the Green County Land Use and Zoning Committee has indicated that the Green County Code is in need of updating; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Green County Board of Supervisors, in legal session assembled, that the following additions, deletions and corrections be made to Title 4 of the Green County Code.

4-3-2-1: BUILDING AND USES D. 2.

Each parcel or lot shall be adjacent to a public right of way. However, up to six (6) eight adjacent lots serving single family or two family residences may share a common drive or easement access. Adjacent lots in this subsection are lots which abut the common drive or easement access.

Lots or parcels, which are a part of a commercial, business, industrial, apartment or condominium development, may be serviced by a private road, street or lane if approved as part of the overall development. (Ord. 06- 0601, 6-13-06) 4-6-1-2: PERMITS A. Zoning or Land Use Permit: 6.

Except as provided in §4-3-2-1.F.6, no zoning permit for any residence or for the first building on a lot shall be issued unless said lot is serviced by direct access to a public right of way or via easement access servicing no more than six (6) eight lots single or two-family residences on a public right of way as provided in §4-3-2-1.D.2. and until receipt by the Zoning Department of the original approved written Driveway/Access Verification Certification form, complete with the required attachments as indicated on the form, which has been signed and dated within 90 days of the date of the zoning permit application. If more than one access is proposed for a lot, or if an additional new access or driveway is proposed to be constructed, an approved Driveway/Access Verification Certification form will be required even though the proposed building may not be a residence or the first building on the lot. If a township refuses to provide an approved or denied Driveway/Access Verification Certification form within the time period, the township shall appear before the Green County Zoning Committee and indicate its reasons for its inaction or, in the alternative, provide written justification for its inaction for inclusion in the Committee Minutes. Failure of the township to take any action will result in a denial of a the zoning permit for said lot. Blank forms for the Driveway/Access Verification Certification will be provided by the Zoning Department, and updated as needed.

The intent of this section is to discourage shared private roads. Any lot or parcel legally created and recorded in the Register of Deeds office prior to the adoption of this ordinance may be increased in size by the addition of all or part of adjoining lots or parcels and such resulting lots or parcels may be used for any purpose permitted in the district in which they are located provided that the resultant lots or parcels shall not be reduced below the minimum requirements of the district. Further, where the terms of this section cannot be met, a variance under §4-6-1-5 may be requested. Motion by Kubly, seconded by Torkelson to approve the following out-of-state travel requests: Joni Marty, Health Department, to attend Nurse Family Partnership Supervisor training in Denver, CO on January 29 to February 1, 2018; RoAnn Warden, Health Department, to attend Nurse Family Partnership Administrator training in Denver, CO on March 19-22, 2018; and Kelly Damron, Human Services, to assist the placement and transition of a child in a residential treatment facility in Memphis, TN on January 10-12, 2018 and quarterly thereafter. Seasonal sounds

Parkview Junior/Senior High band presented their winter band concert on December 14. The band, directed by Charlene Ulichny, played a medley of songs from “Pirates of the Caribbean,” at three different grade levels to demonstrate the levels of music that the students play. They also played a medley from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Additionally, Principal Mary Stelter read “T’was the Night before Christmas,” with the band providing accompaniment.

Annual Basketball Alumni Night to be held next Thursday Thursday, Dec. 28 will be the Annual Basketball Alumni Night at Parkview. Former Parkview basketball players and coaches are invited to attend the event. Admission for alumni will be free, and alumni will be asked to sign in so that they may be announced at halftime of the boys’ game.

The night will feature both boys and girls JV and Varsity games versus Brodhead. JV2 boys will play at 4 p.m.

The Varsity Girls will play on the main court at 5:30 p.m. JV girls will play on court 3 at 7 p.m.

The boys JV game will tip off at 5:30 on court 3. Varsity Boys will take the floor at 7 p.m. on the main court.

Parkview wrestling clips Palmyra-Eagle

The Parkview wrestling squad picked up a 48-18 dual meet win over Palmyra-Eagle last Tuesday.

In the106-pound weight class, freshman Lucas Vonderhaar received a forfeit and freshman Matthew Mendez received a forfeit at 126. The lead ballooned to 18-0 as sophomore Grant McMahon received a forfeit in the 132-pound weight class. Senior Conner Nolan picked up a forfeit victory at 145.

In the 152-pound weight class, freshman Korben Brown dominated the match. Brown pinned Rickey Smith 1:08 into the second period.

Freshman Luke Schwengels delivered the quickest Vikings pin against Mi-

chael Schaab 45 seconds into the bout at 160.

Palmyra-Eagle’s Tim Dillard picked up a pin in the 170-pound weight division. Dillard pinned Vikings’ junior Lieven Dumke with 30 seconds on the clock in the opening period. In the 182-pound weight class, Vikings’ senior Gavon Brown pinned Jake Pronschinske 1:00 into the showdown.

The pins kept piling up for the Vikings on this night. In the 195-pound weight division, junior Chase Carratt racked up another Vikings pin. Carratt pinned Mitchell Steinberger 38 seconds into the second period. Palmyra-Eagle’s Javier Dixon received a forfeit in the 220-pound weight class and Marc Cervantes received a forfeit at 285. v

Obituaries

JAMES C. HENNINGSEN Mr. James C. Henningsen, age 74, of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Forsyth hospital in Winston Salem, NC. He was born on September 27, 1943 in Benton, Wisconsin to the late James R. and Clara Henningsen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roger, Lyle, and Paul.

He was a contractor/builder, an active member of the community, had served as president of the Meadows of Dan Ruritan Club, volunteered with the Meadows of Dan Volunteer Fire Department, and was loved and respected by all. James knew the true meaning of success. He gave back to those who helped him along the way and never forgot where he came from.

Mr. Henningsen is survived by

his wife, Margaret of the home; one son and a daughter-in-law, Michael (Heidi); one daughter, Anita; two grandchildren, Bryce and Alexis; two sisters, Ann and Patsy; and one brother, Ken. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Shawn Carter officiating.

Burial immediately followed in Meadows of Dan Baptist Church cemetery.

The family received friends from 1:00 pm until time of the service at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon.

RICHARD F. PARMER Richard F. Parmer, age 66, of Evansville, WI, formerly of Brodhead, WI, passed away on Saturday, Decem-

ber 16, 2017, at the Evansville Manor, Evansville, WI. He was born on February 19, 1951 in Monroe, WI, the son of Richard L. and Maria (Rettan) Parmer.

Dick graduated from Brodhead High School in 1969 and had attended Bethany Lutheran Church, Brodhead.

He worked as the produce manager at the former Sentry grocery store in Brodhead for 35 years. Dick enjoyed remodeling projects and working on cars and especially helping others.

He is survived by a son, Christopher (Allison Rollette) Parmer, Janesville, WI; a brother, Steve (Cindy) Parmer, Monroe, WI; and three grandchildren, Ashley and Megan Parmer and Derek Zoellner. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Sue, Emily and Sally, and a brother, Robert Jr. Per Dick’s request, a private family graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, WI, in the spring of 2018. SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION There is an open seat on the Juda School Board because Joann Goecks is not running for re-election. The deadline to sign up to run in the election is Tuesday, January 2.

PAPA MURPHY’S POST-PROM FUNDRAISER On Wednesday, December 27, there will be another Papa Murphy’s Fundraiser to raise money for Post-Prom. A portion of the proceeds sold this night will go towards Juda’s Post-Prom activities.

8TH GRADE ORIENTATION There will be a high school information night for 8th-grade parents on January 8 at 6:00.

HOLIDAY FUNDAY FRIDAY Last week the high schoolers had a Holiday Funday Friday. Christmas movies, holiday Kahoot trivia, and B.I.N.G.O were the activities students could choose from. Prizes could also be won during these activities. Students that had uncompleted work were not able to participate in Funday Friday and were sent to work rooms.

WRESTLING The Brodhead-Juda Wrestling Team wrestled at the Sugar River Tournament in New Glarus on December 9. Wrestler Trent Davis took first at the 220-pound weight class, Jayson Star took third place at the 126-pound weight class, and Brian McCullough took fifth place at the 145-pound weight class. On Tuesday, December 12, Brodhead-Juda wrestled Beloit Turner at home and had both their Senior and Parents Nights. Beloit Turner beat Brodhead-Juda in team score, but Brian McCullough won his match at the 145-pound weight class by pinfall. The wrestling team also traveled to Poynette for a dual meet on December 14, beating Poynette in team points, but coming short against Princeton. The team traveled to Mount Horeb on Saturday, December 16, and placements will be posted in a later article.

BLOOD DRIVE The next blood drive will be held on Monday, January 22.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL The boys’ basketball team beat the Albany Comets 69-53 on December 12.

Cole Fortney led all scorers with 25, followed by Keagen Haffele with 17.

The boys played Black Hawk last Friday, and the score will be posted in next week’s paper. The boys’ next game is on Thursday in Juda against River Valley at 7:00 p.m.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL On December 7, the girls lost to Argyle with a final score of 52 to 59. Lead scorers of the game were Maddie Roth with

13 points, Montanna Steinmann with 11 points, and Hailey Kammerer with 11 points. On December 11, the girls lost to Benton with a final score of 64-40. Their next game will be on Friday, December 23. They play Pecatonica at home. This is also the girls’ Parents and Senior Nights.

The JV will play one half against Pecatonica. The JV game starts at 6. Parents of both JV and Varsity players should be at the school by 6:30 p.m. The Varsity game will start at 7:00.

SPANISH CLUB Today, the Spanish Club is taking a trip to Illinois. First, they will go to Lalo’s Restaurant. The students are recommended to bring $10-15 for lunch.

Second, they will go to a theater to see the new Disney movie Coco. Each ticket costs $13. In total, the students are suggested to bring $30 to safely cover everything.

MATH DEPARTMENT Algebra I is working on how loans work in real life using car loans as an example; meanwhile, Algebra II is working on making purchases in the stock market and how to best make a profit, and geometry is working on building a house in 3D in Google SketchUp. STEAM The groups have been building their robots for 3 weeks now. Many groups have begun testing their cars and fixing the controls. The groups can also add duct tape and cardboard to their robots.

The robots will have to move and sort different-sized balls using a claw. The competition will be held in February.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT Reminder to all middle school and high school choir members to complete your choir lessons before the end of the quarter. If interested in participating in Solo & Ensemble, talk to Mrs. Fox or Mrs. Way for more information.

ART DEPARTMENT Last week the kindergarten class had a painting day, and the first graders started creating a winter scene. The second graders had a super fun art day, and the third graders started working on a barn quilt.

The fourth graders started a collage, and the fifth graders made ornaments. The sixth graders learned about columns. The 3-D rotation class and the high schoolers started working with clay.

STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council partnered with the FFA Officer Team to put on the Holiday Food Drive. All of the collections were donated to local food pantries. The holiday dress-up days this week are Monday: White Christmas (dress in all white), Tuesday: Ugly Sweater Day, Wednesday: Christmas Spirit or Wrapping Paper Day, Thursday: Favorite Christmas Movie Character, Friday: Pajama Day. CHRISTMAS BREAK Christmas break will start with a half

day of school on December 22. Classes will resume with a full day on January 2.

FFA

The Food Drive that the Student Council and the FFA put on last week was a success, and both parties would like to thank everyone who participated. The FFA also had a Giving Tree. The Giving Tree had stockings with items that students needed. On the stocking, it listed the grade and whether it was a female or a male. Teachers and students had the opportunity to take a stocking and go shopping for that specific person. The whole purpose of the Giving Tree was a way to help those students at Juda who were in need of a little Christmas. The FFA would like to thank everyone who helped out with the Giving Tree and purchased gifts. The FFA would also like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

SENIOR CITIZEN LUNCHEON The Senior Citizen Luncheon was held on Wednesday, December 13. A meal was provided by the senior class. The high school band and choir performed their Christmas pieces as well as holiday singalong music. Tours of the new school and B.I.N.G.O were the activities held.

AB NICHOLAS SCHOLARSHIP Basketball players and managers may qualify for an Ab Nicholas college scholarship. These scholarships are good for senior boys or girls planning to attend a University of Wisconsin System school. $10,000 is awarded for four-year programs, and $5,000 a year is awarded for two-year programs. The scholarship is renewable each year for a total of $40,000/$10,000. The scholarships are based on need, academic achievement, and character.
