Orfordville welcomes new restaurant By Robin Marsden CORRESPONDENT
Orfordville is ringing in the New Year with a new restaurant. Taqueria Guzman, located at 100 East Spring Street, is a Mexican restaurant being run by a dedicated family. Gustavo Guzman, his wife Rosa Cortez Guzman, his brother-inlaw Angel Garcia, Angel’s wife Juliana Guzman Garcia, and Gustavo’s mother Anna Maria Rodriguez, will be running the restaurant as a team. Hailing from Janesville and Beloit, they felt Orfordville was the best location for all of them. The family is very excited to be opening their first restaurant together. They look forward to meeting and getting to know members of the community. Taqueria Guzman is hosting a grand opening on Friday, Jan. 4 from Noon to 8 p.m. During this event, tacos will be half price. Regular hours begin the next day and are Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. ROBIN MARSDEN Brodhead Independent-Register Taqueria Guzman will serve breakThe Guzman family is looking forward to starting their business and fast, lunch, and dinner with a regular being a part of the Orfordville community. menu and daily specials.

Downtown Orfordville will see a new business open its doors this week.
Be a part of a Brodhead effort that will benefit future generations The Brodhead City Council voted, recently, to recommend building a 6,000 square foot Senior/ Community Center for $1.4 million. This came after a Senior/Community Center Committee recommendation to move forward with the Center. Increasing the amount of areas the public may use to meet, learn, and grow together as a community, is of great importance to the entire Senior/Community Center Committee. The City has the opportunity to utilize a $500,000 matching Community Development Block Grant to help fund the project. The Brodhead Foundation made a pledge of $100,000 ($20,000 per year for five years). With the grant and the pledge, approximately 40% of the project would be funded. It is necessary to raise $400,000 by April 1, 2019 to
be able to match the grant. A referendum question will be on the April 2, 2019 ballot, asking voters to decide whether or not to move forward with the project. Matching the grant and a positive referendum are both conditions of receiving the grant. The balance of the funds will need to be raised to have the project completed by October 2020, which is a grant requirement. A fund raising campaign will begin shortly. Any and all assistance is needed and appreciated to accomplish these goals in a short timeline. Anyone willing to assist with this project please call 608-897-4476 and leave a message. Tax-deductible donations can be dropped off at the Sugar River Bank-Brodhead Branch. Senior/Community Center Committee
