During the program’s 11th annual service-learning trip to Tennessee, the group provided nearly $900,000 worth of free services for 1,534 individuals. Remote Area Medical, a nonprofit organization providing medical, vision and dental services to the underserved. Working from temporary dental stations set up at an armory, the volunteers also provided lessons on oral hygiene. Because many of the patients never learned proper dental care they have badly decayed teeth, Jacobs said. On Feb. 28, at approximately 1:05 a.m., a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy was traveling eastbound on Grass Lake Road, west Perez Cordero of Stonegate Drive, in unincorporated Antioch. As the deputy was traveling east, a 2002 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Carlos R. Perez Cordero, 24, of the 38300 block of North 3rd Avenue, unincorporated Spring Grove, was traveling west on Grass Lake Road. Perez Cordero crossed the center median and struck the deputy head-on. Both vehicles sustained major damage. Perez Cordero attempted to flee on foot, but the deputy was able to free himself from his damaged squad, and pursue Perez Cordero. The deputy caught Perez Cordero and apprehended him. It was determined Perez Cordero was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Perez Cordero and the deputy were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries. Both were treated
