Man sentenced to 27 years for attempted murder of a police officer
Record amount of donations collected for Antioch Traveling Closet giving event
On December 7 Good Family Tattoo in Antioch held a “Toys for Tats” event from noon-8:00 p.m. Anyone that brought in a new toy valued at least $20 could spin the wheel to try and win a free piercing or gift certificate for a $50, $100, or $300 tattoo. In the 8 hours Good Family collected approximately $15,000 in toys, cash, and gift cards. For the third year in a row they have graciously given the toys to the Antioch Traveling Closet. The Antioch Traveling Closet then invites struggling families

Lake County State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim has announced a Zion man was sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempted murder of a police officer. Olvan Quezada, 22, of the 2900 block of 30th Street, was sentenced to 27 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on charges of attempted first degree murder of a peace officer for his role in a shooting in the 3000 block of Arthur Court in Waukegan on June 17, 2016. He was also sentenced to 19 years in prison on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm involving a peace officer, 10 years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm by a gang member, and 5 years for possession of a defaced firearm. The prison sentences will be served at the same time. Quezada was also ordered to serve 3 years of mandatory supervised release after completing his prison sentence. “We need to do everything in our power to protect those who are sworn to protect us, and we are extremely fortunate this event did not end in a more tragic way,” State’s Attorney Nerheim said. “I’d like to congratulate the officers and police departments in Waukegan and Park City and the attorney’s in my office for all their hard work on this case.”
in Antioch to a private event where they can come and pick out gifts for their family. This year the ATC had gift wrappers at the event including Lake County Board Member Linda Pedersen. Gillespie Ford also donated 50 fleece blankets for the event. The private event was held on Dec. 11 and about 100 families came to pick out gifts. The left over gifts went to an officer with Waukegan Police Department who delivers them to the shelters on Christmas Day.
