Downtown Antioch to bustle with activities Several slated later this month
By Sandra Landen Machaj CORRESPONDENT
There was a time when the holidays only consisted of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s festivities. In recent years, however, the holiday season extended to Halloween, which previously consisted of costumes and trick or treating, but has coexisted along with the fall harvest time. Once again, Antioch enters the holiday season with an array of activities for young and old, as the trees develop their fall look, with leaves turning from green to orange and red. The activities, meanwhile, are sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Antioch. Crafty kickoff The festivities begin the weekend of Oct. 21, when the Arts and Crafts Faire is held once again, at Orchard and Main Street in downtown Antioch. The craft fair features a variety of vendors who will offer unique art work and crafts and brings in 5,000 to 12,000 visitors. Vendors are not only from the local area, but come from as far as California, Ohio and Florida. The Arts and Crafts Fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
This is a free activity. The Treat the Streets will be held on Saturday from Noon until 2 p.m. Sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department and local businesses, visitors are encouraged to bring their children in costume to downtown Antioch, where they can stop at area businesses with an orange pumpkin displayed in the window to receive treats. The Chamber will distribute treats from special cauldrons and the Parks and Recreation Department will follow the Treat the Streets
