Village of Antioch Police Department hosting National Night Out event
Antioch Traveling Closet holding giveaway day this Sunday
The Antioch Traveling Closet Corporation is having a giveaway day on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Antioch Senior Center, 817 Holbeck Drive, Antioch. Struggling families will be able to come pick out clothing, shoes, school supplies, toiletries, and cleaning supplies at no charge. There will also be a hairstylist on hand to give free haircuts. Other organizations that will be represented are: The Period Collective, which gives out feminine products, Antioch Area Healthcare Accessibility Alliance which helps people with medical questions, and The Rosalind Franklin mobile health clinic which will provide blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screenings and give sports physicals. The Antioch Traveling Closet, ATC, is a not for profit organization that benefits local families.
The ATC began with a handful of volunteers and has quickly grown into a widespread community effort supported through area residents and local businesses. The ATC amasses donated items from the community such as gently used shoes, clothing, winter jackets, boots, hats, gloves, books and toiletries. The items are then distributed free of charge at quarterly giveaway drives that are held at the Senior Center in Antioch. The ATC is strictly a not-for profit and relies on generous residents and businesses for help with donations. ATC is in need of socks, kids under garments, school supplies, cleaning supplies and toiletries of all kinds including: toilet paper, laundry soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, bar and body soap, feminine products, dish soap, baby wipes,

All Antioch residents are cordially invited to participate in National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 5-10 p.m. This remarkable community program is designed to bring neighbors together, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and generate participation in anti-crime and drug programs. National Night Out sends a message to criminals that we are fighting back against crime as a community. This year’s event will be held at the Antioch Bandshell, 900 Skidmore, Antioch. The event begins with National Night Out activities, K-9 demonstration, face painting, squad car tours and free hot dogs. At dark, the Police Department will begin its feature presentation, showing the popular movie “Zootopia” outdoors on a 45-foot screen. Residents are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and join their neighbors, family, friends, and the Antioch Police Officers for a fun night. The Antioch Police Department will also serve free popcorn during the movie. For more event information go to the Facebook page for Village of Antioch Police Department.
