Intoxicated driver crashes into Fox Lake squad car

The Tempel Farm, home of the world-famous Lipizzan horses, is a beautiful country setting with rolling hills and clean white fences along the Illinois/Wisconsin border near Wadsworth, Illinois. The stately and majestic horses, with a long history of being the mounts of royalty, today are best known for their impressive ability to perform difficult challenges. The horses are considered to be one of the oldest breeds in Europe dating back to 1580 when Archduke Charles of the Austro Hungarian Empire started a stud farm at Lipizza near the Adriatic Sea in the area that is now known as Slovenia. The plan was to breed a horse elegant enough to pull carriages for royalty and also well suited for war.. The Renaissance, which occurred at that same time, encouraged the development of classical horsemanship. With the opening of the Spanish Riding School in 1572 the horse and rider acted together as one to perform high-end movements reminiscent of a ballerina
On July 12, at approximately 1:50 a.m., a Fox Lake police officer was conducting a traffic stop on Route 12, in the area of Lake Vista Terrace, unincorporated Spring Grove. A second Fox Lake police officer arrived at the traffic stop to provide assistance. The officer exited his squad car, after activating the squad’s emerClinton P. gency lights. Harris-Snelten After the officer exited the squad car, a northbound Volkswagen SUV, driven by Clinton P. Harris-Snelten, 30, of the 37900 block of North Harold Place, unincorporated Spring Grove, failed to yield and crashed into the rear of the Fox Lake Squad. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to assist at the scene. Harris-Snelten was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies and transported to the Lake County Jail where he was subsequently charged with: two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, Scott’s Law violation, failure to reduce speed to avoid an

With this classical horsemanship, it was not surprising that the Lipizzans were chosen to carry on the Spanish Riding tradition, utilizing techniques of dressage and performing difficult movements such as the pirouettes and the “airs above the ground” that involved the horse leaping into the air. Saving the horses The Spanish Riding School opened in Vienna and remained a constant presence there until 1945 when fear of bomb strikes encouraged the closing of the school and the removal of the horses to a safer area. Col. Podhajsky, the school’s chief rider, led the call to save the horses and move them to the safety of the castle of Count Anton Arco Valley. Unfortunately, the horses from the stud farm had been removed to Hostau and were not so safe. As often happens in war, the troops ran out of food and used any local animals to feed their men.
