Antioch to host wizard-themed event Antioch’s Wizard Weekend will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, in downtown Antioch. Attendees will celebrate all things magical during the event. People can bring their wands, owls and dress up for this event. There will also be a magic school for kids, wizard banquet, costume contests, a craft faire, chess tournament and scavenger hunt. The costume contest will be at 2 p.m. Dogs may also be dressed in costume for a prize. Sign up for the costume contest will be before the beginning of the contest. will be from 10 a.m. to noon. The school of magic is for children ages seven to 12. There are only 120 tickets available for this event. The wizard banquet will be at the Antioch Veterans of Foreign War Hall on North Avenue for ages five and older. There will be food, photo ops, a keepsake wizards item and more. Advance registration is required and is $40 for adults ages 13 and older and $35 for children ages five to 12. There will only be 200 tickets sold for the banquet. People who wanted to participate in the chess tournament were asked to register their team of 16 by June 1.

‘The Secret Garden’ opens last weekend in June “The Secret Garden” will open at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 29, and run for three weekends until Sunday, July 15, at PM&L Theatre, 877 N. Main St., Antioch. The performance is directed by Rebecca Zellar. The musical tells the story of quick-tempered and lonely Mary Lennox, who is orphaned in India by a cholera outbreak and sent to live with her widowed Uncle Archibald in his manor in Yorkshire, England. During her stay, ghosts from the past haunt the living inhabitants, and Mary discovers
her bedridden cousin Colin and a mysterious locked garden. Through the course of the musical, Mary discovers, tends and regrows the secret garden and finds that, in turn, caring for the garden with the help of her friends and family helps restore companionship and love to the household. Performances are at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors and $10 for children.
