Wizards, witches converge in Antioch Visitors near and far braved the heat Saturday, when they gathered in downtown Antioch, where the second annual Wizards Weekend Day was held. The annual event, presented by the Antioch Chamber of Commerce, featured several exhibits and adventures. Features included, but were not limited to, Kids Hogwarts School
of Magic for children ages 7-12, Wizard Village Shops, costume contests, Wizard and Muggle Craft Faire. The Kids Hogwart School of Magic offered classes in herbology, defense against the dark art and other courses held inside the Antioch Public Library. While the school of magic met capacity at 120 students, children
who enrolled received keepsake items, and the parents had an opportunity to explore the Wizard and Muggle Craft Faire. Additionally, visitors engaged in a scavenger hunt, which they were presented with challenging clues. Visitors received clues from a map obtained from the Ministry of Magic Information Booth at the Wizard and Muggle Craft Faire.

The vote, however, was not unanimous after trustees Jerry Johnson and Ed Macek recused themselves and another opposed the plan. Johnson is an owner of the building. Macek recused himself since he has had a long-term business relationship with Johnson, insuring The Lodge, the business where Johnson owns the building and manages the business.
Trustee Jay Jozwiak voted no, stating, “I can’t support giving away the $200,000.” Trustee Scott Pierce, who voted in favor along with trustees Ted Poulos and Mary Dominiak, was in favor of giving the $200,000. “They have a good business plan and are investing $1 million of their own money,” he said. Dominiak said she has been working with the owners as board liaison. There was no mention made regarding prevailing wage. Illinois state law requires that “all fixed works constructed by any public body
