Antioch welcomes input on comprehensive plan Village schedules June 25 workshop
The Village’s Community Development Department has been working with the “Comprehensive Plan Committee” over the past several months on an update of the Village’s Comprehensive Plan. A Comprehensive Plan is a long-term vision of how a Village should develop over the next 20 years and beyond. The current Comprehensive Plan dates back to 1991 and with the recent growth in the Village, Staff believes that it is critical to update this planning document. Since the early 1900s, the Chain of Lakes area has been a place for summer activities, including water bodies. The lakes, however, are just one draw to the area. Other draws include forest preserves, where visitors and local residents hike, bike and bird watch. Chain O Lakes State Park, meanwhile, offers golfing and additional activities. In the early days, the area had both large resorts and individual summer cottages along the lakes, but these communities turned into year-round homes as the years progressed. the active engagement of the “Antioch Community Vision Committee” and the residents of the community on creating a long-term vision for Antioch. Based on the wish to maintain the small town charm and Village’s sense of place, the new “Comprehensive Plan Draft” attempts to balance preserving the Village’s small-town character with attracting new development. The Village is looking for the input of the residents on this proposed draft document and has scheduled a workshop to review and discuss the draft document on Monday, June 25th at 6 p.m. at the Village Hall, 874 Main Street, Antioch. A copy of the draft document can be found on the Village of Antioch’s website.
