Recommendation comes after severe storms

After severe storms pelted the stateline region last week, area authorities have reminded residents of solicitors posing as restoration contractors and issued tips to avoid potential scams. The storms, which saw hail, drew a response from the Village of Antioch Police Department on social media on May 3. According to village police, all for-profit companies are required to obtain a solicitor permit before conducting business in the municipality. “Oftentimes after a community experiences severe storms such as those (May 2), property restorations and repair companies begin soliciting their products and services,” the social media post states. Although village police said most companies are reputable and respectable businesses, others could use the storm as way to commit fraud, village police state. With fraud a concern, police issued tips to avoid becoming victims of home repair scams and fraud. “Because of this, we en-

Solicitor permits will contain the seller’s name, company they represent, dates permitted to solicit, a photograph and a signature from the police chief and village clerk. For residents who see solicitors without a permit, they can contact the police department at 847-3958585.
