Dr. Sven celebrates 50 years of service to Antioch By Jessica Lamberty CORRESPONDENT
Dr. Robert T. Sven, head dental physician of Antioch Dental Center, has owned and operated his business since 1970 and recently celebrated his fiftieth year of service to the Antioch community. Sven’s father was a dentist in Brighton Park, and was his inspiration to go into the dentistry business. In Sven’s early years, his father employed him and other family members to complete office work in the lower level of their home, which doubled as the family business. Sven graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Dentistry in 1968 and later moved to Antioch to start his own practice after answering an ad in Chicago Tribune from George Ptack, a Navy trained lab technician who was looking for a dentist to work with after his previous partner had retired. After business bolstered in the late sixties, Sven bought the property and began his own practice on January 29th, 1969. He moved his extended family to Antioch to help answer phone calls and assist with
daily tasks in the office. Many members of his immediate family remain involved with the dental industry today: one working as a practice manager, one in a dental laboratory, and two working in dental equipment services. Outside of the dental practice, Sven spends his free time with his family, outdoors, and traveling. Currently, The Antioch Dental Center, at 439 Lake Street, serves all age groups and prides itself for being family oriented. “I have enjoyed taking care of multiple generations in the same families, watching them grow within the practice,” Sven said. From sponsoring the “Royal Smile” award for the Antioch Pageant to hiring countless high school students considering dentistry as a profession, Sven has continued to give back to the community year after year. Keep an eye out for him flipping chicken at the annual Lions Club BBQ, or catch him giving tours of the office for scouting and preschools, and be sure to thank him for his continuous service to the Antioch community.

Antioch Eco Fair to celebrate Earth Day In honor of Earth Day the Environmental Commission will be holding an Eco Fair on April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Antioch Township Center, 1625 Deep Lake Road, Lake Villa. This free event is for people of all ages and will feature speakers, vendors, games, food, prizes and interactive activities. Hear speakers talk about adventures, land stewardship, how to prepare financially for climate change, hydroponics and more. Learn about ways to enjoy and protect our environment, how to save energy and money on your home, how to reduce/reuse/recycle, how to garden, organic food and Antioch’s Community Garden. Come and create a recycling poster that encourages the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle! Submit your poster by 11 a.m. that day to be entered in the contest.
