The third Friday of every month is an important day at Crossview Church, 750 Highview Dr., Antioch for both the congregation and the community. Starting on December 15, for those who are hungry, they can come to Crossview for groceries. And come again every third Friday evening, beginning at 5 p.m. The first day, Dec. 15, clients were in the parking lot prior to the 5 p.m. opening time, so volunteers let folks in as soon as the moveable pantry was set up. Crossview is working in partnership with The Northern Illinois Food Bank, the Lake County Community Foundation and the Faith Acres Foundation in McHenry to make sure no one goes hungry. The church also receives food from Faith Acres in Wauconda. Scott Jewitt, representative from the food bank, said the effort would not be possible without the partnership. “This effort is possible because of the partnership between Crossview and its volunteers that provide a venue and manpower, the Lake County Community Foundation that provides funding and the Northern Illinois Food bank that provides food,” Jewitt said. Last summer, the mobile pantry was in the church parking lot. The service has now moved inside. Numerous tables were set up with each station provided a different item such as meat, fruit, baked goods and vegetables. Volunteers were at each table to assist shoppers and volunteers walked the clients to each station, pushing the grocery cart. When the client was done shopping, the volunteer took the groceries outside and helped the client load their car. Cathy Leighliter coordinates volunteers and schedules service. “If you are hungry, you can come here and get food,” she said. On the first Saturday of the month, Crossview holds the Bread of Life Share Center in the morning and has been doing this for the past 18

At the Dec. 14 regular board meeting, the Antioch Township board approved both the township and road levy for 2017, payable in 2018. The Antioch township levy for the tax year 2017 is frozen again at $1,043,456. The levy has been frozen at this for at least the past five years. The township board passed the levy at the Dec. 12 regular board meeting. Former township supervisor Steve Smouse kept the levy at this amount for a number of years. On the tax levy ordinance document, items for which this levy pays include general town fund, insurance fund and the general assistance fund.
Total administration costs included in the levy are $580,046; assessor at $314,610; insurance, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and Social Security fund together are at $111,600. Total general assistance fund is set at $37,200. The general corporate tax is set at $894,656. The total road tax levied for 2017 is $2,512,220. This includes $495,170 for the road and bridge tax; $27,014 for insurance; $1.9 million for the permanent road tax and $90,036 for the equipment and building tax.
