Timeless Treasures marks eight years By Gail Peckler-Dziki CORRESPONDENT
When Marvin Griffin was 17 years old, he bought a rhinestone necklace for 50 cents at a garage sale. He later sold it for $20 and he was hooked. The ball began rolling and he has been in the resale and new business of selling ever since. Timeless Treasures, is the latest venture for Griffin and his partner Sam Staton-Griffin. The establishment is an eclectic mix of new and vintage, high end, estate and fun jewelry and other art objects. Timeless Treasures has moved across the street to 901 Main St., a larger space and held a grand opening on Nov. 16, replete with sweet and savory canapés, champagne and the ribbon cutting. Griffin explained, “We need room to expand and this new space provides that. And we have been open in Antioch for eight years.” Light-catching Swarovski Austrian Crystal artistic clutches and jewelry and mannequins dressed in sequined dresses dazzle the eye and that’s all you can see the first few visits. “People will come into the store and never notice
that we also have furniture the first time they come in, ” explained Annette Newby, who has worked in Timeless Treasures for a year. There are five other dealers that offer another eclectic mix of vintage kitchenware; furniture and soft goods have spaces behind the main room. Griffin and StatonGriffin have a collection of over 200 vintage mannequins, including possibly the only remaining one of Jackie Kennedy. They are on display throughout the room, modeling dresses and jewelry. Not all 200 would fit in the store at the same time, so they are on a rotation basis. You never know who will be on the floor at any one time. “We have a Marilyn Monroe, Cher, Bette Davis and Joan Crawford,” Griffin said. “We have to keep Bette and Joan apart,” he quipped. Merchandise is constantly changing and Griffin and Staton-Griffin make buying trips to New York, Houston and Los Angeles every year. “I look for the unusual,” Griffin said. “If they show me that something is hot this year, I ask them to show me something else.”

PM&L Theatre schedules auditions for next show Auditions to be in PM&L
Theatre’s performances of “The Game’s Afoot” will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, and Tuesday, Dec. 18, with callbacks, if needed, on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the theatre, 877 N. Main St., Antioch. Ken Ludwig’s “The Game’s Afoot” takes place in December 1936, and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, invites his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holiday. Director Lorrie Ferguson is in search of five women and three men for this show. Ages are very flexible. Character descriptions can be found at the theater’s website. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. on Sundays from Friday, Feb. 8, until Sunday, Feb. 24. For more information, visit www.pmltheatre.com.
