Girl’s Night Out: A time for girls to have fun By Sandra Landen Machaj CORRESPONDENT

Who doesn’t enjoy a day of shopping, especially shopping as we enter into the holiday season? It is a time to peruse the many new and unique items that have made their way into the shops either for our families and friends, or to begin a personal Christmas list of the things that we would like for ourselves. It is time to shop when we can still enjoy the experience and are not rushing to complete our shopping for gifts when the holidays are right around the corner. How often do we plan to start our annual shopping early only to find ourselves rushing around on the final days before Christmas trying to fill the “holes” in our gift lists at this very last minute? Throughout the year, women spend their time cooking, cleaning, shopping for family needs, acting as chauffeur and delivering their children to their many activities. Then, as the holidays approach there is decorating to give the home a festive air and shopping for that perfect gift for each person on our lists. It is time for “Girl’s Night Out.” It is a wonderful new activity sponsored by the Antioch Chamber that is an early start to the holiday celebrations. Take the time to enjoy some early Christmas shopping while having a night of fun and relaxation with your closest shopping friends. The evening begins at 5 p.m. on Nov. 15, when participants pick up their fun Girl’s Night Out keepsake bag adjacent to the Chamber Office, 884 Main St., Antioch. The keepsake bags will be filled with a variety of both fun and practical items. The practical will include a map of participating businesses and shopping information among other things. The fun includes a wish list to fill out for yourself as you find items that would make you smile if they were to be found under your Christmas tree. A wristband will be given to each paid individual so that they may participate in the special treats, savings and personalized service and the “after party.” Hopefully a light snow will fall, not enough to make it difficult to meander down Main Street and Lake Street shopping but just a few flakes to tickle one’s face and bring the spirit of the Christmas season in to add to the festive holiday shopping mood.

There are sure to be some items to be added to your Christmas list and given to your own special Santa. Right: End the evening enjoying some appetizers and wine samples at the Lodge, 899 Main St., Antioch, at the after party open only to registered shoppers wearing their wristbands.
