Lone skater Lee McClellan, 12, fires slapshots past an imaginary goalie at the recently-opened Johnsburg community ice rink at Rescue Squad Park on Johnsburg Road between Spring Grove Road and St. Johns Avenue on Sunday, Jan 7. Despite the weekend’s winter “warmup” into the mid-20s, the rink remained largely unused. The rink is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. provided temperatures remain at or below the 32-degree freezing mark. That window of opportunity might be closed for the early part of the week as temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 40s before dipping below freezing later in the week. For updates on the ice rink and other Johnsburg news, visit the village website at http://johnsburg.org.

Theater to premiere English farce Jan. 26 Program to run for three weeks

The PM&L Theatre, 877 Main St. in Antioch, will premiere “See How They Run” by Philip King Friday, Jan. 26 at its establishment. The theatrical production, directed by Jim Behr, whose previous PM&L directing credits include “Kill Me, Deadly” will run for three weekends, according to a news release. “See How They Run is a four-door, galloping, highly physical English farce that will leave its audiences breathless with laughter,” the release states. “The play takes place in a vicarage during World War II where everyone ends up dressed like a vicar except the vicar.”

The production features Tara Petrozelli (Penelope Toop), of Burlington, Wis. She plays a former American actress married to a stuffy local vicar played by Matthew Leptich, of Antioch. Petrozelli’s character, according to the release, innocently meets up with old friend played by Waukegan’s Justin Fiorelli. Fiorelli’s character is in town on military leave. “A busybody parishioner, Miss Skillon (Chris Jones, Lindenhurst, IL), catches Penelope performing a scene from Noel Coward’s ‘Private Lives,’ and that’s all the confirmed suspicion she needs to to stop Penelope from cheating

on her husband, and starts the play on its way to being a ridiculously raucous farce,” the release states. See How They Run will run Fridays and Saturdays, Jan. 26, 27, Feb. 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m.; and Sundays, Jan. 28, Feb. 4, and 11 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are available online at pmltheatre.com and are $15 for adults and $13 for students and seniors. To reserve tickets directly through the box office, opening Jan. 15, call 847-395-3055. The box office is open Monday - Thursday, 6 - 8 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. - noon. The box office is also open an hour and a half before curtain on show dates.
