Prevent the flu and stay healthy this holiday season

PM&L Theatre presents ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ PM&L Theatre is pleased to announce their upcoming seasonal holiday production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson which will run Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays from Dec. 13 – 21. In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple (played by Kimberly Barnes of Antioch, IL and Adam Miskie of Delavan, WI) struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids (probably the most inventively awful kids in history). You won’t believe the mayhem - and the fun - when the Herdmans collide with the Christmas story head on! Directed by Adam Armstrong (previous PM&L directing credits include Treasure Island and People vs. Friar Lawrence), this delightful comedy is adapted from the best-selling Young Adult book by Barbara Robinson, and has become a holiday staple for groups across the United States.  It features plenty of great roles for children and adults, a few favorite Christmas Carols, and a lot of laughs! Performances for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will be Fridays and Saturdays, December 13, 14, 20, and 21. at 8:00 pm.  There will also be matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays, December 14, 15, 20, and 21, at 2:30 pm.  Tickets are available through the box office and online at pmltheatre.com  The box office is open Monday through Thursday from 6:30-8:30 pm; Saturday, 9:00 am-12:00 pm; and one and a half hours before curtain on show dates.  Please call 847-395-3055 to reserve your tickets.  PM&L Theatre is located at 877 N. Main St, Antioch, IL. PM&L is a non-profit, community-based volunteer organization located in historical downtown Antioch, IL. We are proud of our open auditions policy.  Please call 847395-3055 or visit us online at www. pmltheatre.com for ticket purchasing, show announcements, auditions, news, and more about our season. We are also on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

The Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center urges residents to take action now to prevent the spread of influenza, also known as the flu. The flu is a highly contagious virus that can have serious complications. As the holidays approach, protect yourself and your family—get your seasonal flu vaccine, the best way to prevent the flu. “During last year’s flu season, 55 Lake County residents were admitted to Intensive Care Units for flu and its complications. Of those 55, three died,” said Dr. Sana Ahmed, Medical Epidemiologist at the Health Department. “We recommend getting your flu vaccine as soon as possible to build your body’s defense against flu.” The seasonal flu vaccine is available as either a shot or a nasal spray. Ask a health care provider to determine which type is best for you. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months and older get the flu vaccine every year. In addition to getting your flu vaccine, the Health Department recommends following the 3 C’s to prevent the spread of flu: clean, cover, and contain. • Clean—clean your hands

Crisis Outreach and Support Team records successful first year

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce a successful year for the Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COaST) in Lake County’s ongoing efforts to help those with mental illness. Since beginning this initiative, sheriff’s deputies made 785 referrals to COaST, a program launched in October 2018 to support Lake County residents with mental or behavioral health illness who have law enforcement interaction. These referrals occurred during various calls for service.  Of those 785, COaST personnel have successfully made contact with 654 of the referrals and offered additional resources, including referrals to the Lake County Health Department and other health service providers.

“We are grateful for the collaboration with the Sheriff’s Office to address unmet behavioral health needs in Lake County,” said Sam Johnson-Maurello, Director of Behavioral Health for the Health Department. “The real success of the COaST program is when we have been able to help people access the services that they need.” In October 2018, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Lake County Health Department began piloting the COaST program. The COaST team consists of a specially trained Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Lake County Health Department licensed mental health counselor. Within approximately three days of a law enforcement officer encountering a mental health interaction, COaST

arranges a meeting with the individual or a “cold call” to their residence. During the meeting, COaST checks the well-being of the person and determines if they have sought any treatment or services since the initial event.  COaST then provides a “warm hand-off” to the Health Department, or if necessary, refers the person to appropriate services. Sheriff John Idleburg said, “Mental health initiatives like this are making a difference.  Through COaST, we have successfully made contact with 83 percent of the referrals to offer services to people facing behavioral health or substance use challenges.  I firmly believe that people with mental illness require services and not incarceration, and programs like this aid in that quest.”
