Charges filed in Grant Woods stabbing incident The Lake County Forest
K-9 Dax wins law enforcement category of the 2019 AmericanHumane Dog Awards With the help of your tremendous outpouring votes, Lake County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Dax was named the winner in the law-enforcement category at the 2019 American-Humane Dog Awards. K-9 Dax and Deputy Forlenza earned national recognition and walked the red carpet in Beverly Hills, CA. Dax began his successful career with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office almost four years ago. He has been directly responsible for tracking and successfully apprehending over 70 suspects. Dax has also been accountable for tracking and finding dozens of missing or endangered children and adults. Dax has been used for over 100 narcotic searches resulting in over 17 kilos of cocaine, heroin and other narcotics seized, hundreds of pounds of cannabis, approximately three quarters of a million dollars in currency, dozens of firearms, and seized vehicles. Dax’s top deployments in 2018 included tracking
and locating a dangerous domestic violence offender who forced his way into a home and then battered and choked a woman until she lost consciousness; capturing a robbery suspect even after the offender struck Dax repeatedly; and, apprehending a wanted fugitive (who was allegedly armed) hiding in the attic of a home covered in fiberglass insulation. Dax saved the lives of citizens and deputies in late 2018 when he tracked a fugitive who had allegedly committed a burglary, was in the process of stealing a vehicle from its owner, and then brandished a gun at pursuing deputies. The fugitive was charged with attempted murder and several other felonies after being located by Dax. Dax’s tireless drive, dedication to training, love for police work, and incredible success stories have gained him thousands of supporters from across the country. Dax has proven to be an outstanding K-9 hero.

Preserves Ranger Police arrested and charged an Ingleside woman with aggravated battery and attempted murder shortly after an attack that occurred on Monday, Oct. 21 at Grant Woods Forest Preserve in Ingleside Marquette Owens, 60, was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $750,000 Tuesday morning (Oct. 22), said Jim Siefken, Lake County Forest Preserves Police Commander. The aggravated battery occurred at Grant Woods on the trail north of Rollins Road and east of Wilson Road at about 4:20 p.m., Monday, Siefken said. Owens has been charged for allegedly stabbing a woman as she walked along the trail with her child. The child, under the age of 10, was not injured, Siefken said. The victim was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Her injuries are not considered life threatening. “Our officers and detectives did an excellent job in investigating the case that subsequently led to charging Owens,” Siefken said. “Safety within the Lake County Forest Preserves is our number one priority,” he said.
