was outside the pen cold and wet and crying. The mother had moved under the shelter but had left her other twin all alone.

It had managed to crawl through the panel fence and away from the others. I lifted the little lamb up in my arms, opened the gate, and took it over to the mother. Instead of welcoming her little lamb back, sadly, the mother didn’t want to accept her baby.

For whatever reason she kicked at it and pushed it away with her nose when I

tried to help the lamb nurse.

Thinking that this would help the situation I moved her inside the shed into a pen with both lambs. It’s been three days now, and I still have to go inside the pen and hold the mother still so the little orphan lamb can suck.

It’s the only way to keep the mother from butting it away. I was hoping by now she would accept it, but I’m just not so sure. This morning I tried rubbing some straw where the mother had urinated all over the back of both lambs so they both had the same scent. We’ll see if that makes a difference or not. Animals are funny creatures sometimes.

I just love all the variety there is in God’s great animal world. When my wife and I have gone to the zoo over the years, either with a

The little lost lamb

A couple days ago one of my three ewe sheep gave birth to twin lambs. I had been watching the expectant mothers for a couple months waiting for them to lamb, and at last it had happened.

The thing is I don’t know the first thing about sheep, but I always wanted to raise a few because the lambs are so cute out on the pasture running and kicking up their heels.

So the other day when I was going about my normal outdoor chores of feeding all the different animals around our farm, I heard the distinct call of a faint little bleat over near the sheep pasture. Like an excited school kid, I went over to see the new baby.

Sure enough there were two new little lambs, but one was inside the pen standing close to her mother, and the other

school group or with our own grandkids, I find myself just staring in amazement at each and every creature.

They all have such distinct and unique features to help them adapt to life in their environment. It’s just almost breathtaking to stand next to a giraffe pen for instance and see how tall their legs and neck are or meander over to the rhinos and take in the enormity of their feet, legs, chest, and head.

On the other hand, the monkeys, badgers, and porcupines for instance, have very small frames in comparison. It’s so unique to see all the different types of animals that are in the cat family as well.

animal grow so large so quickly and another stay small and petite throughout their whole life? How are some animals so fast and nimble and others are slower and clumsier? God is an amazing creator, and we haven’t even touched the birds, reptiles or fish that are so distinctively different as well.

Getting back the sheep.

I’ve heard it said that this vulnerable farm animal completely disproves the

theory of evolution all by itself. How so, you ask?

If evolution was true and only the most resilient and powerful life forms have survived, then how does one explain the sheep.

It cannot run fast; it has no means of defense whatsoever, and it’s not very smart to say the least. We must conclude that God created all things, and He also gave us His word found in the Bible to explain his plan and purpose for all

mankind.

Colossians 1:16 tells us, For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.

All things were created through Him and for Him. Then of course we have John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life.

shepherd who takes care of every one of His sheep that hear His voice and run to Him. We read a little Bible story book to our grandkids about a shepherd who loses one little lamb and even though 99 are safely in the fold, he goes out to find the lost baby.

That is a picture of our Savior. He is not willing that any should perish, but all should find salvation.
