SUDOKU Fun by the Numbers

Like puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test! Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

Summer ever coming?

It seems like every spring we go through the same scenario. April comes in like a lamb with a couple days of really nice weather, and we all lose our sense and sensibility. Everyone gets all excited that we are suddenly going to bypass our normal cold springs and just move right into summertime weather, but then reality hits us like a ton of bricks.

Here it is, we live in Wisconsin, an upper Midwestern state where spring is a long-drawn-out process with far fewer nice days than crummy ones. Sure enough, after those couple days of 80 degrees, we were right back to the upper thirties with some snowy days mixed in to help us remember where we live.

Being a high school baseball coach for almost 30 years before I retired, I never put my long johns away each year until we were well into May. There were so many games when we froze our buns off out on the field.

In fact, I think it is colder at some of those spring baseball games than at many fall football games. Spring baseball can be colder because the air is so much wetter in the spring and that combined with cold temps and cool breezes makes it rough. I loved every season though, and I can remember nearly every player I ever coached over those years.

It’s funny how in the spring there never seems to be a gradual rise in temps from week to week. Instead, it usually is something like this; we get a couple early season warm days to tease us, then weeks of cold, wet, and windy weather, and then all at once the days suddenly jump to the 80’s and 90’s for the rest of the summer. Whatever

happened to 30’s and 40’s in March, 50’s and 60’s in April, 70’s and 80’s in May and then good old summer time of 80’s and 90’s with an occasional 100 just for fun.

Our temps this year were 30’s and 40’s in March, two days of 80’s in early April and then 40’s and 50’s in April. It’ll probably jump right to the 80’s in a day or two, and that will be good for making the hay grow and drying up the wet spots in the fields. Then the farmers can get their crops in. The baseball and softball games seem to roll on no matter what the temps are, but the crops will be delayed for days if it doesn’t warm up pretty soon.

The good thing is that summer eventually does arrive no matter how far off it might seem to be and then we begin to complain almost immediately about it being too hot. We are a finicky bunch of scoundrels.

In the Old Testament book of Genesis, we read that God set this world into order and the seasons are a part of God’s design for the earth, and so they will never fail to appear.

Genesis 8:22 reads; While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter and day and night shall not cease. I find it very reassuring that God set the weather patterns on this earth in order, and no matter what the climate change people may say, He is still in control and always will be.

Until next week, God bless!
