Weekly connection About a month ago my wife and I made the decision to sell our small dairy herd and begin to embrace a less hectic schedule. It was just five years ago, that I taught my last class of PE students, coached my last baseball game, sold our house, packed up our goods and headed back west to our roots in southwest Wisconsin.

The opportunity had come up from one of my brothers to take another turn at milking a few cows. For 30 years I had missed the cows and the thought was that before I got too old, I wanted to take my turn at owning and running a dairy.

The first 25 years of my life was spent around cows and milking and had I grown to really love the dairying business. But the Lord called me to enter the career of teaching and coaching so I walked away from farming.

However, after 20 years of teaching, I began to really miss the farm life.

I managed to teach 10 more years after that, and when the thirty-year mark came along,

Lord giving us the strength. It was He who guided our lives and blessed us by bringing us back to the farm.

When I was teaching school, we lived in town for 13 years and then just outside of town for another 15 but weren’t able to have much to do with the farm.

Now with the dairy cows gone, we are planning to add a few head of beef cattle to keep our hands in farming. It’s funny how things work out.

Some years ago, I chose a life verse for myself from the Bible. It is from the book of Proverbs chapter three verses five and six. It goes like this, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Lord has led my wife and I each step of the way in life. It’s exciting to enter a new chapter and I am looking forward to all God has for us in the years to come.
