armed robberies that occurred in Rockford on the same evening last December.

On Dec. 11, 2018, just before

7 p.m., City of Rockford Police Officers responded to the Boost Mobile Store at 3201 Auburn St. after a report of an armed robbery.

Officers learned a male Janathan J. Turner suspect, armed with a handgun, robbed the business of money and fled.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., Rockford Police Officers were called to S&H Tobacco at 2744 11th St. for another report of an armed robbery. Officers learned

the suspect entered the business, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money.

Just before 8 p.m., Rockford Officers were called to another business at 615 S. Rockford Ave. for a third report of an armed robbery. A suspect entered the Discount Tobacco Store, demanded money and merchandise and fled.

Finally at approximately 8:10 p.m., Rockford Police Officers were called to Little Ceasars Pizza at 3108 N. Rockton Ave. for another report of an armed robbery. The investigation shows an armed suspect entered the business with a gun, demanded money and fled. No one was hurt in any of these incidents.

Detectives conducted a follow up investigation and the defendant, Janathan J. Turner, 25, was developed as a suspect.

The investigation was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, charges were authorized and Turner was recently indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury on multiple counts of Armed Robbery and Aggravated Robbery.

Turner is in the custody of the Winnebago County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on March 21, 2019, in front of the Honorable Judge Brendan Maher in Courtroom D of the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center.

VIEWPOINT In my opinion

What is your guess for the #1 movie quote?

Show me the money! Most people recognize that quote from the 1996 movie Jerry Maguire. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tom Cruise had a memorable exchange stating that phrase over and over. That same flick also birthed two other catchphrases of our pop culture: “You had me at hello” and “You complete me.”

The writer of those words?

Cameron Crowe. Writers are often the unsung heroes. Sure, the actors have to deliver the lines with aplomb, but who puts the words in their mouths?

The brilliant writers.

No one can predict what will resonate and a writer simply wants the overall piece to hit home. I doubt Cameron Crowe knew when he wrote the screenplay that people would forevermore repeat those lines.

To have three memorable lines from one film is quite a feat. Because of our pop culture, we even have a list of the top 100 Movie Quotes. What is your guess for the #1 spot? I’ll make you wait a bit for that reveal.

What is interesting to me is that the list from the American Film Institute includes the famous line, the movie it came from, the character who said it, and the actor or actress who portrayed that character. The writer is not listed.

You know most of these lines.

Many have become memes or included in commercials or simply part of our jargon. “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

(Wizard of Oz) “Go ahead, make my day.” (Dirty Harry) “May the Force be with you.” (Star Wars) Those three are in the top 10. My

guess for the top spot is actually Number 5: “Here’s looking at you, kid.” (Casablanca) Another Wizard of Oz line comes in at #23 – “There’s no place like home.”

“I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!” makes the list at #99, giving Oz three famous lines to make the Top 100.

Casablanca has the most, with a total of six: ”I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.”

“Play it, Sam. Play ‘As Time Goes By.’ (Often said as “Play it again, Sam.”) “Round up the usual suspects.”

“We’ll always have Paris.” “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine.”

We don’t have to agree with a line for it to become pop culture. Case in point: “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” That Ryan O’Neal line from Love Story is uttered often but most people think love absolutely includes saying sorry.

Who wrote those lines? The screenplay for Casablanca was written by Julius Epstein, Philip Epstein, and Howard Koch, based on a play by Murray Burnett and Joan Alison. Wizard of Oz is based on the book by L. Frank Baum. The screenplay was written by Noel

Langley, Florence Ryerson, and Edgar Allen Wolfe.

Dirty Harry was penned by Harry Julian Fink, R.M. Fink, Dean Riesner, and John Milius. Love Story, the book and the film were both by Erich Segal.

Star Wars, George Lucas. I bet you knew that one.

Losing each other at the home improvement store My husband and I had to make a trip to the home improvement store last weekend for one item. Just one.

We started out together, but after a cursory period found ourselves involuntarily separated.

We were looking for lye. I make soap, and you can’t make soap without lye. Usually I order my lye online, but I was in a pinch and needed some ASAP. Sometimes you can find it at home improvement and hardware stores. I had my fingers crossed.

When we were unable to find the lye after five minutes of searching, my husband set out to find someone to help us.

When shopping, my husband is very good about asking for directions. I am not. I would burn myself with lye before admitting my failure to find whatever item it is that I am attempting to locate.

I don’t want to waste the time of store employees. They have jobs to do. Like stocking shelves and

helping other customers.

My husband has no problem inconveniencing store employees if it shortens his time spent in said store.

So he went to look for an employee in an orange vest. I followed him initially, but when the employee was engaged with another customer, I made like a squirrel and took my nuts elsewhere.

Five seconds later I located the lye – no lie. I returned to the aisle where my husband was awaiting information from the home improvement store expert. It was empty.

scanned each secondary aisle. No husband to be found.

So I called him on my cell phone.

No answer. Really?

I called him again. Then I texted.

In the meantime I found three or four other items we needed that were not on our list. Serves him right.

I was just getting ready to call him again when my phone rang. He was in the garden section. I think the home improvement employee thought he said he was looking lime. Gardening? In the middle of winter? Just planting our tomatoes in February like all the other Minnesotans!

We met up in the main aisle and decided we needed a couple of two-by-fours – since we were at the home improvement store and all.

We found the display, but no boards.

He set out to find some. I got bored waiting and went to look myself.

We were lost again.

This time my phone rang. “Where are you?” he asked.

“By the two-by-four display.”

“Be right there.”

He took his time and I started looking (again) for any errant wooden boards. I was in aisle 32 when my phone rang.

“Sorry,” I said. “I got waylaid.”

The mysterious closet We lived in an old farm house when I was a kid. It had all the characteristics of a typical hundred-year-old house. There were drafty windows, uneven floors, leaky roofs and drippy faucets. There were old hot water radiators throughout the house that rattled, creaked and groaned in the winter time.

The upstairs had no heat at all, and that’s where we boys slept each night. We had a huge feather bed that we would lay on top of our blankets, and when we crawled under that thing it was like having a massive cloud of fluffy warmth hugging one’s body. I remember lying in bed watching my breath and yet feeling warm and safe under that mountain of goose down.

There were three or sometimes four of us that slept in that big warm double bed. Since I had the earliest bed time I never really heard my brothers come to bed. If I ever woke up in the middle of the night though, everyone would be

snoring away snug as could be.

It was really tough in the morning crawling out of that nice warm nest. It was almost like torture to get the wakeup call for chores. I tried to make it easier in the morning, so the night before I laid out my work clothes on the chair by the wall.

When I was awoken, I would leap out of bed, grab my clothes and bolt downstairs as fast as these little feet could carry me. When I got to the living room I would stand up close to those hot water radiators and get dressed quickly.

Then it was overalls, boots, and coats, then out the door to the cozy barn where the girls would be waiting for their morning grain

One of things about that old house that was the most mysterious for a young boy was a deep dark closet that I would sprint by every night on my way upstairs. The closet actually ran underneath the stairway and my mom hung an old bed sheet across the doorway for neatness sake I suppose. To me it looked like a place for monsters to live, and I hated it. It was a mystery to me that I never solved because I never looked inside that curtain, not even in the daytime.

The Apostle Paul writes about a mystery that God kept hidden for ages until the resurrection of his son Jesus Christ. Paul says in Colossians 1:25-27 I have become a servant to the church by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness – the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory Paul was privileged to share this amazing truth that Jesus Christ can actually live in the heart of a believer to bring him help, comfort and strength each hour of every day. Mysteries are things that can be difficult to understand, but for the believer in Christ this mystery is clearly understood because we can actually feel Christ living inside our hearts. Sicilian Lamb Meatballs with Whipped Feta-Olive Oil Sauce

Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 15 minutes Servings: 4 Sicilian Lamb Meatballs: 1 pound ground lamb 1 tablespoon Carapelli Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs 3 tablespoons pine nuts 2 tablespoons golden raisins 1 large egg, lightly beaten 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper Feta-Olive Oil Sauce: 1/2 pound feta cheese, crumbled 2 tablespoons Carapelli Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt To make Lamb Meatballs: Heat oven to 375 F. Line large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

In large bowl, mix lamb, olive oil, panko bread crumbs, pine nuts, raisins, egg, salt and pepper. Use hands to mix all ingredients together.

Roll mixture into approximately 36 meatballs about 1 inch in diameter and place on baking sheet.

Bake 15 minutes until sizzling and golden brown.

To make Feta-Olive Oil Spread: In food processor, blend feta cheese, olive oil and yogurt 30-45 seconds until creamy.

Serve Lamb Meatballs with Feta-Olive Oil Sauce for dipping or scooping.

Marinated Roasted Portobello Mushrooms with Olive Oil Agrodolce

Prep time: 10 minutes Cook time: 30 minutes Servings: 4 Roasted Mushrooms: 2 pounds Portobello mushrooms 1/2 cup Carapelli Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2 teaspoons fresh sage, minced 2 teaspoons fresh rosemary, minced kosher salt, to taste freshly ground black pepper, to taste Agrodolce: 1/2 cup red wine vinegar 2 tablespoons honey Carapelli Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil To make Roasted Mushrooms: Clean and destem mushrooms, cutting large mushroom caps in half.

In large bowl, toss mushrooms with olive oil, fresh sage and fresh rosemary. Let mushrooms marinate 1 hour, tossing occasionally to absorb oil.

Heat oven to 400 F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.

Spread marinated mushrooms on baking sheets, making sure mushrooms are in single layer and not crowded. Sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper.

Roast 30 minutes until mushrooms are crisped and golden brown at edges.

To make Agrodulce: In small saucepan over medium-low heat, bring vinegar and honey to simmer, stirring occasionally until honey dissolves.

Continue simmering 15-20 minutes until vinegar is reduced by half and is thick and syrupy.

To serve, place roasted mushrooms on platter and drizzle generously with Agrodolce and olive oil. Serve with choice of side.

Rustic Tuscan Potato Leek Soup with Olive Oil Pesto

Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 50 minutes Servings: 6 Potato Leek Soup: 3 medium-large leeks 2 tablespoons Carapelli Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 large garlic clove, coarsely chopped 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus additional, to taste (optional) 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced into 2-inch cubes 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth Pesto: 1 packed cup fresh basil 1 packed cup flat-leaf parsley 1 medium-large garlic clove, roughly chopped 3 tablespoons pine nuts or 1/4 cup walnuts 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 cup Carapelli Unfiltered Extra Virgin Olive Oil To make Potato Leek Soup: Trim bulb ends and tough, dark green stems off leeks. Slice tender white and light green stems in half lengthwise then soak in cold water 10-15 minutes to remove dirt. Drain leeks, rinse well and slice into thick half-moons.

In large Dutch oven or stockpot over medium-low heat, heat olive oil. Add leeks, garlic and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until leeks are soft, about 10 minutes.

Add potatoes and broth. Cover and increase heat to medium. Bring soup to simmer then uncover and continue cooking 30 minutes.

Using immersion blender, puree soup until smooth, or carefully ladle into standing blender to puree in batches. Taste and add more salt, if desired.

To make Pesto: In food processor, pulse basil, parsley, garlic, pine nuts, salt and olive oil to make chunky herb sauce.

To serve, ladle soup into bowls and spoon Pesto on top of each serving.
