Elkhorn man charged with sex assault of girl A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 6 for an Elkhorn man charged with sexually assaulting a girl he is related to more than two years ago.

The man, 29, was charged Dec. 12 in Walworth County Circuit Court with first-degree sexual assault, sexual contact with a child younger than 13 years old; and incest. He is not named here to protect the identity of the girl.

According to the criminal complaint, a 13-year-old girl disclosed Dec. 3 that her relative touched her inappropriately at a home in Fontana when she was 10 years old. The girl said she was playing a video game with the man when he pulled her onto his lap while he was aroused, touched her private parts and attempted to digitally penetrate her, according to the complaint. The girl said the touching continued until another family member began walking toward the room, the complaint states.

During a phone conversation with the girl’s father, the accused admitted touching the girl’s breasts and said she was on his lap when the incident occurred, according to the complaint.

Felon found with gun after fight with girlfriend A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 6 for an Elkhorn felon found with a shotgun after a fight with his live-in girlfriend in their Town of Geneva apartment.

Steven E. Vogel, 36, was charged Dec. 13 in Walworth County Circuit Court with possession of a firearm by a felon, felony bail jumping, disorderly conduct and posses-

sion of drug paraphernalia, all as a repeater.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a horse farm in the Town of Geneva on Dec. 7 for an open 911 line with what sounded like a woman yelling in the background. When police arrived, a man and woman were leaving the secondary residence on the farm, and an officer flagged them down, according to the complaint.

The woman, Vogel’s girlfriend, appeared to be “shook up” and told police Vogel had just threatened to kill her, according to the complaint. She said she and Vogel were drinking at the Como Inn and got into an argument about finances on the way home, the complaint states. She said Vogel threated to shoot her, her dogs and her horses with a shotgun that was in their residence, according to the complaint.

Once inside the home, she said, Vogel smashed a TV on the floor, pushed her up against a wall, knocked her glasses off her face and scratched her head, the complaint states.

At one point, Vogel ended up outside the house, the woman locked the door and he threated to smash the window with a weight that was outside to get back in, according to the complaint.

Police found a shotgun, a rifle barrel with scope rings mounted to it, marijuana and two pipes with marijuana residue in them, according to the complaint.

Vogel was under bond conditions at the time on charges of battery and disorderly conduct and has been convicted of burglary, battery, resisting or obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct.

Dec. 14 11:18 a.m. – general fire alarm on East aCommerce Court. No problems, sanding crew set off alarm with dust.

Fire Chief on scene.

3:04 p.m. – truck broken into on West Randall Place.

Spoke to complainant who reported someone went through his truck but nothing was missing.

4:37 p.m. – observed semi parked on the street, attempted contact with the residence it was parked in front of without success on East Hartwell Street. Green tag left on semi warning of violation.

7:55 p.m. – stopped for speeding on North Wisconsin Street, citation issued.

10:44 p.m. – states that they are making noise in the hallways and banging on the door dogs are barking on West Gorman Street. Another caller states that the dog is going crazy and the TV is loud, sounds like someone slamming the door over and over.

11:32 p.m. – front desk is the caller – has had two complaints on West Hidden Trail.

Contact made both advised it was an argument that got out of hand. Nothing physical occurred. The situation was mediated and expressed embarrassment for role in this incident.

4:11 p.m. – elderly couple sitting in broke down car tried to jump car but as soon as cables were removed it died again on East Court Street. Officer arrived and the vehicle owner had called his insurance company for a Tow. Officer provided the occupants with a ride home so they weren’t out in the cold.

5:30 p.m. – officer observed a vehicle with blue license plate lamps on North Wisconsin Street. Vehicle stopped and driver verbally warned.

11:27 a.m. – responded to 9:33 a.m. – vehicle has address and located subject not moved in a while on East

Sedgemeadow Street. Followed up on it today left a green tag with the vehicle to remind them of the ordinance.

24 hours given to remove it.

9:45 a.m. – officers observed a vehicle making an illegal left turn on East Commerce Court. Issued a warning.

12:34 p.m. – general fire alarm on West Centralia Street.

Officers arrived on scene and were told by the fire chief that everything was okay.

3:02 p.m. – dispatched to assist with custody on County Trunk H. Transported subject to jail on a probation hold without incident.

5:51 p.m. – warrant for subject on North Wisconsin Street. Transported to the jail at probation’s request.

11:04 p.m. – furnace is out on North Washington Street.

Inquiring on if it is safe for him to be there. House was down to 58 degrees and part was to be replaced tomorrow. Was concerned the pipes would freeze.

Officer advised it wasn’t likely as the temp wasn’t that cold.

He had a space heater in the bedroom for the night.
